Folklore is on another level when it comes to Taylor. She really did a work of art. The lakes is one of my favorite songs, I love it when she says “These hunters with cellphones, take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die”, it makes me think of her wanting to create a space with just her and her partner, out of the cameras, away from the public eye, it’s just so sweet can’t really explain it. Sonically, this song is Beautiful. Anyways, the song is obviously about her stolen records and 🛴 will always be on my black list. Love your vids ❤
In the documentary for folklore, she was talking about the Lakes. It's a place where famous people use to move to to get away from the public eye... basically like a retirement community for famous people in the time of William Shakespeare She said she dreams of going there someday to get away from it all. To escape this life of celebrity.
I'm sure she could - I mean, the Lake District is a beautiful place and isn't ridden with paparazzi and us Brits don't have anything like the celebrity fixation which our American cousins do.
she refers to the lake district in england! there's literary history associated to that place, she talks about her inspirations behind this song in an interview, it's very good
As someone who studied a whole segment about the romantics, the line "take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die" makes more sense. You mentioned the romanticism and the romantics. The romantics was a movement of people who thought nature was above us, and conveyed it through art and one of the main forms was poetry. A lot of these poets ended up killing themselves which is why it's "all the poets went to die" and to add the lakes to it would be their thoughts on nature, so maybe them giving their lives to "the lakes" or nature altogether. The lakes is my favourite song it's so beautiful
I was so happy to see you take a reaction for this masterpiece. And let me connect the dots for you as an English literature graduate. You are totally right about romantic era and William Wordsworth. And in fact William Wordsworth, his friend Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Robert Southey were called "The Lake Poets" of the romantic era because all lived in a lake district. And it's fascinating how she sprinkled this to the song from beginning until the end. Also as far as I know The Windermere Peaks looks like a perfect place to cry for her because "invisible string" has this line; "Bold was the waitress on our three-year trip Getting lunch down by the Lakes She said I looked like an American singer" So people didn't recognize her by the lakes she talks about and she felt more emotionally free.
To me, the rose on the frozen ground metaphor shows how much she grew. She used to be very present in social media, constantly sharing pics with her friends on Instagram and communicating with the fans on Twitter. After the whole Kanye/Kim feud, she left social media for a while and became more enclosed. It was a part of the old Taylor that she had to let go of. It's funny that she got her longest relationship, true friends by her side and many new passionate fans around the world after this. She really didn't need the exposure to find happiness, I hope everything's going well for her now. ❤
I think the rose growing out of ice frozen ground also was a metaphor for Joe and her relationship. Her reputation had never been worse but something beautiful came out of something that shouldn’t have been able to do that.
this is one of my fav songs in Folklore. I can say that it is also a very underrated one. “A Red Rose grew up on some ice frozen ground, with no one around to tweet it” That line claimed that she used to be so present in socmed, tweeting posts and beautiful moments. But in that scenario, she’s living in the moment and just lets her eyes witness that beautiful moment. It also means that she just wants to run away from the life she has here with her muse and just cry out on the windermere peaks as she refers to it as the perfect place to cry. She wants to run away, but she can never escape the life she has here. It will always haunt her because she is Taylor Swift. Despite not being famous, I love how people can relate to this song, including me. The thought that you want to run away from all those things that is bothering you and that our social batteries can be drained too. The song speaks for ourselves. Sometimes, we just want to let it all out and escape social media and everything. She is truly a genius and can make our vocabulary broad than what the school does /j.
one of my absolute favourite songs, I often fantasise about running away and escaping reality so I find it really relatable. I also think it's just such beautiful poetry
“What should be over burrowed under my skin in heartstopping waves of hurt” this line always gets me, since loosing my mum in 2019 everytime I see anything that reminds me of her I feel this massive sense of longing and loss for what I can’t have anymore and it’s like I should be ok by now and “moved on” but I can’t the pain still lives in my always and I have to carry that, but I’d love to just be with her for a day longer if I could. Ugh.
This song soothes my heart as a bodycream my skin. I'm not a native English speaking person, but I love Taylor so much. She taught me so much English. And I love watching videos with you as my English improves so much.
So many heartbreaking lines in it, truly poetic. But then, the line ‘what are my Words Worth - the poet Wordsworth, the lakes where poets go to die, whaaaat - it kills me every time 😂
i love how the lakes prompted you with such words wisdom and intricate thoughts that entertain us all. i love it i love it i love it! i'd love to see what you could say about mirrorball too since that song touches on themes of people-pleasing, putting on a mask, & other psychological concepts you probably could give your 2 cents on 🥰😍🥰
Thank you so much for the comment on the "rose growing" part. it hit home. i hesitated to do some poetry, cause I feel like..why should I if I have no one to appreciate my thoughts? when they even could take it and make it their own (not that I think it's that great, but just irrational fear of actually getting robbed of something private, the innr life of one) or mock me for my type of writing etc... But you're right. I don't need to share it. I don't need appreciation on it. I'm doing it for myself, this is the only person who'se appreciation is needed. Thank you so so much!
I love your channel! ❤and i love this song… which is dedicated to the Lake District in England(Windermere is the largest lake in England) where i guess she went with Joe….
"Seven" is a song from the Folklore album and sounds AMAZING. This song talks about our childhood with simple descriptions and symbols. Listen, please! I'll love your reaction 🥹
I love this song; it so ethereal! I was a bit surprised that as a therapist you said you hate scooter more than Scott. What Scott did to her was the utmost betrayal. Scooter is an massive asshole, being a massive asshole. Taylor grew up, and grew her career with Scott who was probably like a second father to her…so for him to do what he did would surely cause “heart stopping waves of hurt” and “insurmountable grief”.
i love this song is so so so so so so much especially the original version it gives a 100% lana del rey vibes in video games and young and beautiful i love my mommies
hi!! this is my fav taylor song it is so well written and poetic, also encapsulate the beauty of contemplation and taking your time... she talks about personal experiences bu makes it feel universal and relatable, which reminds me a lot of Lorde's writing! You should check out her album Solar Power it is trully beautiful and so inspiring, really helped me a lot understand myself and accompanied me omw to feel better after a pretty dark time, from a therapist pov I think you could have a lot of fun and warmth from it!!
Is it romantic how all my elegies eulogize me? I'm not cut out for all these cynical clones These hunters with cell phones Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die I don't belong, and my beloved, neither do you Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry I'm setting off, but not without my muse What should be over burrowed under my skin In heart-stopping waves of hurt I've come too far to watch some namedropping sleaze Tell me what are my words worth Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die I don't belong, and my beloved, neither do you Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry I'm setting off, but not without my muse I want auroras and sad prose I want to watch wisteria grow right over my bare feet 'Cause I haven't moved in years And I want you right here A red rose grew up out of ice frozen ground With no one around to tweet it While I bathe in cliffside pools With my calamitous love and insurmountable grief Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die I don't belong, and my beloved, neither do you Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry I'm setting off, but not without my muse No, not without you
tw mention of suicide Wisteria does not grow on the ground, it dangles downwards from trees, which means that the speakers feet are probably not on the ground in this fantasy... obviously it could also just mean the speakers feet on the ground and whole body are covered because they are stuck in one place and have not moved, but considering the fact that this is me trying and hoax describe standing on a cliffside screaming "give me a reason" and contemplaiting following the fears down, and that death is a huge theme throughout this whole album and the song (that starts off with specific diction about funerals) I don't think this hidden or deeper (and devastating) meaning is that far fetched... but even if it is not the actual intention, it is still a gut wrenching interpretation of the lyric...
I think the rose growing out of ice frozen ground also was a metaphor for Joe and her relationship. Her reputation had never been worse but something beautiful came out of something that shouldn’t have been able to do that.
we need you to react to Wish You The Best. I don’t know if you could handle it, personally I couldn’t. but the song is sooo amazing and the songwriting is just amazing. The music video breaks my heart
Does anyone have any tips on how i can improve my english? i want to write like this, i want to be able to understand poetry without needing to goolgle every other word lol
The Lakes is a beautiful piece of poetry. I love how the song presents itself.

This is thee earliest ive been.
I feel that the lakes will be the base for tortured poets department
Is it romantic how all my elegies eulogize me?
I'm not cut out for all these cynical clones
These hunters with cell phones
Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die
I don't belong, and my beloved, neither do you
Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry
I'm setting off, but not without my muse
What should be over burrowed under my skin
In heart-stopping waves of hurt
I've come too far to watch some namedropping sleaze
Tell me what are my words worth
Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die
I don't belong, and my beloved, neither do you
Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry
I'm setting off, but not without my muse
I want auroras and sad prose
I want to watch wisteria grow right over my bare feet
'Cause I haven't moved in years
And I want you right here
A red rose grew up out of ice frozen ground
With no one around to tweet it
While I bathe in cliffside pools
With my calamitous love and insurmountable grief
Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die
I don't belong, and my beloved, neither do you
Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry
I'm setting off, but not without my muse
No, not without you
tw mention of suicide
