Yes! Mr Kowert owns the engine room. Light of hand. Steady, steady, steady. The guard rails on the twistywindy decreasing radius bend, reverse camber downhill uphill road/jeeptrack through the mountains and valleys of Bach. Well done, Kowert.
There are very few musicians in history as powerful or brilliant as Hilary Hahn. She is a world treasure. If you are not familiar with her incredible talent, give yourself a lift into her world of music and you will be greatly enriched.
This is absolutely badass!! As a guitarist that's been listening to this piece for nearly 40 years I can totally appreciate the skill that went into this performance by all parties..
We are incredibly lucky to have someone with such talent as Hillary Hahn on the program. It is very inspiring and to see thre three musicians making such harmony as we heard was invigorating
This is wonderful, and even better when the channel balance is adjusted to favor the mandolin on the right -- Ms. Hahn is a very powerful player, and her instrument is one of the very loudest violins on the planet.
NYT linked this video from an article commemorating the release (today!) of her second Bach album of sonatas and partitas. Truly glorious. I will watch this a zillion times now.
As to Hilary Hahn... Hilary Hahn is a wildly extraordinary Genius of Music and of good nature. She is what Music Is. All of it. Always. She is a gift to Music. A gift to all what's good. As to Chris Thile... Another wildly extraordinary Genius of Music and of good nature. I do believe that Chris enjoys cerebral short circuits of ever-changing concurrent quantities, locations, and duration that with incomprehensible improbability always - ALWAYS - result in brilliance and delightful mischief.
Hilary plays in a very expressive manner here! Very spirited and one can immediately see she enjoys playing this piece. Maybe she is even better in trios or small groups
I had music running on a mix thing here, and this popped up. I suddenly felt an immense amount of humour and joy when looking at the ensemble and then the title. Well done.
My favorite violin Bach interpreter was Nadia Salerno-Sonnenburg-sad that some of her great live performances don’t seem to have been uploaded to UA-cam-there was an amazing A Minor concerto performance on public tv that I remember in the 80’s-sublime groove, tone and passion that would vibe very well with Thile’s aesthetic-call her, Chris!
Chris's facial expressions and body movements perfectly mirror my own involuntary facial expressions and body movements while listening to this piece 😆
She usually has a normally disciplined concert demeanor- lively, but nothing wild. Here, she's like, OK, Imma shred this bitch around the block and back, and you can see the sheer joy on her face. This was a performance to treasure.
in terms of technique yeah I haven't found any serious competitor, just listen to her erlkonig, paganiniana and her shostakovitch concerto that she played when she was barely 20. Musicality is very subjective though. Her biggest problem for me is her too ligh vibrato when playing romantic repertoire
the guitar-like instrument needs a bit of amplification to match the violin volume. it looks a bit incongruous to see Chris making these badass faces, with just a tiny, tinny sound coming out. other than that, awesome performance. HH super-human as always.
Thank you for this lovely recording it was much enjoyed, however, I would be even more grateful if you credit the composer in the title or at least the description.
Hilary is amazing as always. I feel the Mandolin is a bit over-matched. Thile is a great mandolin player, but this was written for two violins for a reason. But still nice to hear.
How about some love for the amazing bass playing of Paul Kowert! Great chemistry between them.

Paul Kowert and Edgar Meyer are in a class by themselves. They can do it ALL (Jazz, Bluegrass, Classic, etc). Both are geniuses.
I was just thinking how cool it would be to see a Hilary Hahn/Chris Thile team up. ask and I shall receive! this was amazing.

If anybody alive is in her league it’s Chris Thile.
I think she and yo yo ma should perform a duet !

Like, you stating this got me all teary-eyed, because it's so true.
Could not have put it better! Sometimes (not often) in life, someone's talent just blows you away.
The joy in her face was so expressive!! LOVED it !!!

THIS IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS IS OCCURRING MY LIFE IS COMPLETE YASSS
Hilary Hahn is an honest musician who stays on message. It sounds like the simplest thing to do, but is rare !
So nice to see the pure joy of Chris Thile ! Alors very nice articulations and dialog between the two !
you can tell Chris Thile is just in heaven playing Bach. love that guy :)
Stunning! She's so good and even in the quiet passages very powerful. Loved it! And Thile, as always...
Hillary Hahn is so excellent, and Thile the mandolin wizard that he is. The ultimate fiddle tunes come from JS Bach.

Amazing!!!!!!!!!! Two of my favorite artists!!!!!!!!!!

That bassist is rocking it

One of my favorites Bach songs
1:11 ROCK OUT WITH YOUR BACH OUT! This is fabulous! 😄🎻👍
Fabulous! Love all the interaction between the players.
This is pure magic right here.
Hilary looks so happy here i love it
Ahhhh i love Hilary’s glasses, they suit her so well!! And of course, beautiful playing!❤
Just Amazing, not only for the bass but also the interpretation of Hilary!
This is so creative, i love this version so much. And i love the joy on hilary's face, working with cool, different musicians :)
That was pure joy.
Pared down Bach. Only frutti no tutti! Gosh, what an inspired performance with only three pillars supporting this edifice of a composition. Bravo!
BRAVO to all three.
fantastic. encore.
1:10 True metal right there
this was amazing ahhh
Instant tears :')

Goddamn it her Bach interpretation is so brilliant I can't right now... ::sigh:: so good.
I need to go practice... NOW..
Talk about song and dance! That was incredible!
An incredibly interesting interpretation of a great piece of music
Pure joy!💕
Chris's facial expressions and body movements perfectly mirror my own involuntary facial expressions and body movements while listening to this piece 😆
Great stuff!
IS THAT CHRIS THILE??? I didn't know I needed this crossover omg
Wonderful!
Legendary.
Wow. Just wow.
Great bass work! Nice mandolin, as well. And nice for Hilary to fill out the trio! :)
She usually has a normally disciplined concert demeanor- lively, but nothing wild. Here, she's like, OK, Imma shred this bitch around the block and back, and you can see the sheer joy on her face. This was a performance to treasure.
Super original !!!
Make a record!!
Stunning :)
Please upload the first two mvts!
Sometimes I wonder if she is really playing the violin. It's like a toy that she can do anything with it anytime.
wowwwwwwww...
I have no idea who Hilary Hahn is but holy crap was that ever awesome.
The only problem is her JB Vuillaume violin is so loud...
Well it is a copy of the "cannon" after all
Thijs Moustache the recording is sad
Larkin75, I might be little biased however Hilary Hahn is undoubtedly the Greatest Virtuoso Violinist of our time.

😘😘😍🎶can I marry this wonderful sounds of music in someway? 😍😍😍😊😎😘😉🎶🎶
IN >>>>>>>>>> CREDIBLE !
Hahn is superb, Kowert great. Thile is spot on as usual but wither the mix, or the mic setup, or the mandolin itself: not enough volume for Thile :(
Wait, what? How haven't I seen this before?
Fantastic. I miss some more presence for the mandolin. Violin shines too much for a counterpoint piece like this.
I would pay with flesh to see the three of them together!
They sure seemed to be enjoying themselves.
1:11 look at his face 😆🔥
Hilary and Chris would have made such a cute couple ❤️
Were Paul and Hilary friends at Curtis?
Lucy Foster yup
Hilary de óculos kkk
It would've been be nicer if they had increased the gain of microphone in front of the mandolin.
Cute glasses, Hilary 😂
Would have been nice if they had balanced the mics so you could hear Chris
I think the guitar like instrument is mandolin the souns and hand position or fingerings are same as the mandolin's.
Now that's tasty!
Подобного уникума, как Крис Тиле не было в истории!
This is so fucking metal. I love Hilary and Chris agrees with me. Bachasm.
If you didn't enjoy that get someone to check your pulse.

The title says 'concerto for two violin in d minor' but Hmmmmnm, then why there's mandolin dueting with violin? Hmmmmmmmmmm
Hilary is amazing as always. I feel the Mandolin is a bit over-matched. Thile is a great mandolin player, but this was written for two violins for a reason. But still nice to hear.
Amazing. My only complaint is the bass mic was not hot enough. With that sort of arrangement, you need all the players in the mix.
She needs new mandolin friends, maybe someone who can get some sound out.
Awkward moment when you realize that she only interacts with the mandolin guy. I felt uncomfortable for the bass player playing 'alone'!
I didn’t like it. I prefer it in the original version.
I'm jealous of Chris thile for getting to play with Hillary Hahn. She's so cute and good.
