- On today's episode, me and John Dehlin @mormonstories tackle our top reasons Mormonism falls on its face. No messing around, no games, just one: Jenga. We heard you like metaphors so we got you 54 of them delicately stacked, then SACKED. You'll have to watch and see who wins! (Rationality) And who goes home the loser! Some of You don't seem to realize that the Lord speaks from out of Zion in the last days. You must get rid of that accusatory spirit because its not from God.
@@germansliceyikes baby go away you can't be helped here😘

Helped? Oh Sure, I got off the Telestial Level in time to prepare for the coming shift which will be starting soon.
No. I would rather join Fun For Less Tours and I am not a Mormon.
Lol
I love it when john makes an absolute bombshell statement that blows away all my years of conceptualizing mormonism and being raised in it and then just ends it off with “was that ok?” “I dunno what im saying im just making this up as we go” 😂
@aspenEarthmover - What did I say?!??
@@mormonstories😂😂
The way that Mormons aren't allowed to talk about what happens in the temple reminds me of how scientologists aren't allowed to talk about OT3
Except Scientology won't give you any tours of any Holy place without never allowing you to EVER leave. Lol. Thank goodness people can leave the LDS Church and not get gang stalked.
@@jusapoet72 I don't know about that. I gagged it up when I was a teenager a long time ago, and they still show up at my door all the time.
@@jusapoet72 LOL Gang Stalked ?!?
Is that besides online ?
@@jusapoet72 except they do gang stalk. I just want to be left alone. I have many texts from the Elders Qurom president wondering why im inactive and when can they come over a meet with me and my family....
Take a look at the second anointing. Total cult behavior - hidden from regular members and only available to the elites.
John looks quite youthful today.
It’s dem ankles
It’s like when you shave your head or wear contacts. Everyone is used to seeing the top 2/7s of John.
I miss his beard, tbh.
Great lighting!
I love his voice. I think it is the first time I see his body, lol. Usually, it is only half of his body with a sweater. I like him without beard. He looks younger.
You did not show the Corporate Church any mercy and for that I thank you both.
The fact that Jim Henson helped free him from a cult and helped him deconstruct the indoctrination is just so amazing!🧡
Jim Henson makes some amazing movies. I also enjoy the “Am I a man or a muppet” song and think it’s a good metaphor for independent thought.
My family is pretty devout in their Christian faith and I remember telling my Aunt that by leaving the church I was forfeiting my eternal marriage and she stopped me and asked "What's eternal marriage?" After I explained it to her she said "Sounds like you're in a cult". This was the first time I realized the temple marriage was only being used as a bargaining chip to keep its members in the faith. For context, my grandparents had just passed away and they were not LDS but were very devout in their faith. NO ONE was questioning if they were together in the after life. You don't need Mormonism to hold this belief.
You mean you didn’t wanna tell your family that the lds church is pro family by making sure only .001% of humans who go thru their doors and pay 10% of their money can be together forever ?
😮Yes, and the push that you're to date to marry in the Temple, even though you are over 30 when baptized, live in an area where Mormons are few....long story short...I never married and had children.... I'm so upset, now that I'm questioning the church...I realize now I should have listened to my Catholic mother who said date a good man.... ugh.😢
I left for a similar reason. Sitting in singles ward, I realized how the promise of "family together forever" is only going to be given to a fraction of a percent of humans, and I realized how awful the temple makes Heavenly Father out to be.
Yes. If God can see what's in our hearts, there's no need for a temple works and ordinances checklist to figure out who gets to spend eternity with who. That's not a loving, caring, personal Heavenly Father type of God.
For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
Matthew 22:30
I'd also add that the consequences of "families can be together forever" is that my family FREAKED out when I left the church and spent YEARS begging, insisting, and guilting me to come back to the church so that we could "be together forever". That shaming is traumatic for the leaver AND causes untold anxiety and sorrow for the believers where they mourn the death of your eternal soul.
when nuancehoe said “do you want to start us off with” I thought she was going to say opening prayer 😂
I did too. 😅
Not hardly
😂😂😂 that would have been hilarious!
Thank you for talking about the death oaths we made in the temple that so many active members don't even know about...I can't tell you how much psychic energy and pain I have given to questioning myself of how I could have not so much been duped, but how could I have allowed Me to make those oaths?? If nobody else was willing to protect me, why didn't I protect me? Still beating myself up occasionally over that, and then continuing on in it and raising my beautiful children in it. Why, why, why...? Thank you John Dehlin for speaking so truthfully in a not mean way, you are a superman to me
Congratulation on your growth, so sorry it was abusive.
Superman wore socks. And pease, seek some help. I wish you well
I've finally caught up with you all in the present, after many months chasing old episodes! You both look vibrant and healthy, thank God! Much appreciation for everything you do! I left the church fifty years ago, and I'm.still deconstructing!
Left the Catholic Church 50 years ago, as well and still recovering too. Most difficult/damaging for me was the teachings on sex/women.
Instead of the “broken shelf” it could the falling Jenga Tower
this is accurate
Best episode ever! Getting to hear John Dehlin cover all these important topics in one show where he can talk and not hold back is epic!
John always blows me away. I arrived at so many of his same conclusions, after agonizing over the scriptures, praying, scrupulosity and unraveling the programming, with years of tears. I looked at it, for over a decade.
I finally came to understand and see exactly what John put so eloquently into words. This is not a God that holds himself to the love he claims it is all about. Then studying church history and discovering the lies of 'the prophets,' finally freed me from it's oppressive control.
John is my hero, he does so much good by giving people a way to tell their story, a way use logic and reason, and tons of much needed validation!
Cara is able to put hard truths together into words with amazing talent that most people can't do. She cuts to the core of the issue, and reveals what's inside every topic. I love your channel and the guests you have on, revealing truth! Carry on! Cara on! 😁
The Abraham papyrus was the final end for me as well.
Well done John and Cara! Thank you!!
As a non-Mormon I first learned about the Mormon temple ritual of signing with the hands to symbolize slitting the throat and stomach when I read the book "The God Makers" in the mid 1980s. I mentioned this some time later in a conversation with a fellow Air Force Officer who was a Mormon and he said "That is an outright lie!". Well, it turns out after the world was informed of the ritual through the book "The God Makers" ,and the movie by the same name, the Mormon Church removed those rituals so that they could say "we don't do that" . Of course, they never mentioned that they used to do that! It wasn't until I started watching Mormon Stories that I learned the facts about the removal of these Masonic rituals from the temple ceremony.
I was a Mormon. At the time I first went through the temple, the penalties had already been removed from the ceremony. Since we’re not told about the changes in the ceremony (we never talk about the temple, even in our families), I would have absolutely said, “That’s not true!” Because I didn’t know that it was that way before my first exposure to the ceremony. The secrecy around the temple is tenacious, and it’s very possible that as a non-Mormon you know more about the history of the ceremony than a Mormon does. Because also we are taught as Mormons not to view even a little bit of anti-Mormon content. Get all your knowledge directly from the Mormon church.
@@anniehasting1133 It's all about control. The Jehovah's Witnesses are the same, they call it "Apostate Literature" which is totally forbidden to read. When I showed a JW at my door a photocopy of one of their incriminating documents he told me it was faked because they are told if they encounter any anti-JW propaganda that it is all manufactured and from Satan.
Almost Mormon here…. Seriously investigated joining. Did all the missionary classes. Then the Cult mom and Chad case hit the news. I started following that case which led me to this channel. I thought the LSD church was just another Christian church but clearly it’s extra….. thus I didn’t join.
If you want a true Bible preaching church I would try a non-denominational one. You want someone that preached from the Bible. J found an absolutely amazing pastor here on UA-cam named Allen Nolan. If you want to understand the Bible and end times ,listen to his playlists. He can make mud sound interesting too.
Tbh, many elements of mormonism that are problematic are the same in all Christianity.
You really dodged a bullet there ... (and 100 times more so if you are female).
You may have literally saved the lives of your children (or future children), with that one decision to walk away from the mormon church.
I recommend watching this at least until close to the end when the Jenga tower falls, even though John is sitting there trying to hold it together (which one doesn't do while playing Jenga normally), then he gives up and brushes the rest of the rubble off the table. What a metaphor for a faith transition LOL.

One of my absolute favorite collaborations between the two of you. Love the Jenga method. Love the conversation vibe. Love your energy. Love your relationship. Love the way the two of you work together in this format!
Awesome! Thank you!
About 12 years old, looking up in the redwoods at a youth camp, I suddenly realized it was false and I had no feeling/connection/love in those settings. Just some shame, abuse, and little of loving thy neighbor. I’m 62 and haven’t looked back. Culturally, it was tough to be non-bible believer. Great content on this channel!
It's amazing how little LDS members truly know about their own church. Between Kara, John and the other ex-mormon channels, I've learned more than I ever did sitting in 3 hours of church a week. And I'm very glad my children don't have to be fed all the lies and fabricated history. They'd rock the boat anyway...I've taught them to be free thinkers and seek knowledge for themselves.
Your taught to not look up information from other-than-church sources! That's why most members don't know much about the cult. They only know what the cult wants them to know! That's how they keep membership (and control) of the faithful.
I’m so used to seeing John at the podcast desk. All this ankle is throwing me off 😂
I vividly remember as a 5 year old very personable and all believing child while visiting my grandparents in Southern Utah, going to Sunday School and learning about the “mark of Cain”. It felt so wrong at such a young age and it still bothers me at the age of 68 how horrible that statement and memory is. I’m grateful I saw the light and was able to leave the church at a relatively young age. Love this podcast John and Cara. Keep up the great work to enlighten people.
You were so blessed to know at a young age. I was 54 and a recent widow and I’ve not looked back but good for you. You saved yourself a ton of stress heartache and further indoctrination
What do Mormons believe? I'm non-denominational and we were taught it was a born given to him by GOD so no one kills him. When I was a kid we had the rapture and I thought I was gonna wake up some day and my parents and brothers would be gone. It scared me so bad I had insomnia for a long time and still do sometimes.
This was amazing!! I really enjoyed feeling the energy and passion from both of you throughout the episode!! Well done, though good and faithful servants!!
Absolutely love this episode! Need to do this again.
I remember in seminary, the most distressful lesson we ever had was when we were learning about the thee days of darkness in the Book of Mormon. We came in to a room with all the windows covered with paper so no light could get in and was played a track in that darkness of lightning and earthquakes splicing up the main sound on the track which was literally babies crying until Jesus’s voice was heard talking about how we made it for being righteous.
Every one of my friends I talked to talked about how incredibly spiritual it was. I was the only one (at least openly) who found it disturbing and did not feel the spirit.
I have thought about a lot of what John said over the years and just wasn't able to let it flow.
Thanks John for BRINGING IT!
So well said! Carah is better than any modern day prophet. FOLLOW THE CARAH!
She knows the way!
She’s not a prophet! She’s a very naughty girl!
👍🏻 At least she tries to tell the truth! Doesn’t try to manipulate.
I love this John!!!! Lately he has been on fire and not holding back and I love it. It’s time to stop trying to beat around the bush and call a spade a spade! Fantastic episode guys!
hellz yess
Man making calling is something that broke me when I was in a bishopric. It was just the three of us trying to fill callings with what we knew about people. Often being shot down because the bishop knew stuff.
"Thank you very much, Mormon Prophets, Seers and Revelators, we can do without your noise." Well Said!
Quite possibly my favorite UA-cam episode ever. You both are amazing.
This was great. Always good to refresh my ammo so I’ll be ready at anytime if a TBM wants to tango 🤣
Two very intelligent and eloquent people.
I like this format with the graphics on the screen and the laid in clips, reminds me of Pop Up Video!!
I love seeing John get ANIMATED!!! This felt like him letting loose! I found your channel from Mormon Stories and so happy you two sat down for this. More of this please!!!
Jonh! I love you! It’s nice to see you supporting people like a father for them. Xoxo from Layton.
Love when you and John collab!!
My son asked a counselor one time “Does god have a penis?” The counselor thought this was a sure sign that he was some kind of pervert, when all he was doing was trying to get the counselor’s goat by talking about Mormon god’s physical body. It’s a valid question and it made me laugh
Love the genuine, heartfelt energy between the two of you 🌻🌼💖
Baptist here.
My bestie joined, moved to Utah, (Utah Mormons were a different breed) left the church and moved back a year later.
When John was talking about the Temple....i had the same thoughts, when i first went..
I also thought... God wouldn't have things for us to do that feel weird.....
Your shows together are GOLD
1:36:25 Little jewish correction here- not sure if i misunderstood John but just for the record, Jews do not believe that there is anyone who is the mouthpiece of God or who is in conversation with God right now, and that there hasn’t been since the time of the Torah. Jews also do not believe that Moses was white. Love yall ❤
What about the moshiac Shmeerson
Dehlin doesn’t know a lot about religion outside Mormonism; frequently gets things wrong.
Thank you John You been here for the longest helping and we're making huge strides everywhere and all the religions thank you John.
Thanks! Love you both!
I got married at 17. The best guy ever! The temple? A waste of time!
Good for you!!!
This was EPIC!!
The “personal revelation” talk was great. Never tought about it.
This is the first time watching your show and I think it’s great that you are having so much success. It’s wonderful that there is someone like you who is bubbly, playful and presents a little less serious who will attract younger people/families. It’s obvious you are knowledgeable about the church and I enjoy listening to you share your knowledge. Were you angry when you found out the church was based on nothing but lies? Did you go out and do all of the things you had been forbidden to do? I left the church years ago and am so grateful I have access to programs like you and John provide.
I’m never Mormon, but I love ur shows.I’m Christian, Southern Baptist
Thank you John for sharing. Nice job
amazing episode thank you guys
I LOVE this more relaxed setting for you both, I think it suits you well! Keep up the good work!
I'm a recovering Catholic and my parents met and married due to a cult.. so this stuff is very interesting and adjacent to my journey.. from uber religiosity searching in my teens.. to early momma hood wanting my kids to have the safety and comfort of faith to divorce from a man who really is a woman and now is doing their own reconstruction of sorts; to now second marriage for me to an agnostic and now at almost 50 I am questioning everything.. nothing in churches passes the mothers love test for me.. which means, If a faith/church can't show and act like a loving parent ALL of the time.. it does not pass. and omg.. none of them pass. NONE. it doesn't fit. God is supposed to be fully all powerful and loving.. so here I sit.. spinning faith falling down the drain.. its world altering.. shaking me to my core tbh
Well that is a “test” that you made up arbitrarily so I wouldn’t put too much stock in it if I were you
Why do you need Church to praise God? Let the physical buildings go and just enjoy being saved through Christ and let God's grace wash over you, you deserve it
Prayers for you…..keep seeking the true Jesus….He will always be ther with open arms!! From a mom of 5 who gets it! I don’t rely on the “perfect” church but I do attend and serve and grow in my faith reading the Bible! Keep seeking Him! ❤️🙏🏽❤️. He loves you with unconditional love!
Dang, this was one helluvan episode.
Carah, your end screen is DOPE 👊🏻
Thanks. I enjoy working on all the things :)

Thank you for you candar and your kind words indeed it dose cut deep and quick and the truth will set us free
Love John! Great episode 😊
I love your content! I have never been Mormon but knew many Mormon’s while in the military community. I could never wrap my head around their faith and I thought maybe I was the problem. The information you, Mormon Stories, etc provide have clarified how my confusion and disbelief were justified lol
Coming from CtC, gladly watching !
You can see how proud John is of her in every shot.
Love this duo❤
Your speaking words from my own mind and soul and couldn't have agreed more with everything said on the pod today. Love you both. If anything you are speaking revelations from "God" the real truth and are bringing the light to the dark corners that aren't discussed ❤😅
This was the slowest and most entertaining game of Jenga I’ve ever watched 😂 I love it
I had John's same exact experience when I watched Disney's The Muppets (2011). I remember thinking at the time "that's really too bad that this kids movie gave me just as strong of a feeling (hair raising, goosebumps, a rush of energy through my spine) as my spiritual witness of the Book of Mormon."
GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!!!!!!
Mormon missionaries told me that my previous baptism "didn't count".
My husband was raised Mormon but I was not. He is not currently active in the Church but still believes it to be the true church. I was baptized on Easter Sunday at age 14 by my step-grandfather (aka Grandpa) who was a retired Southern Baptist preacher. I was raised in a very dysfunctional & abusive home by alcoholics. I never attended church until my new Grandpa saw my situation then began taking me. He lovingly picked me up every Sunday morning starting at age 12 w/ donuts in hand so that I would have breakfast. He & I would go to the church service & Sunday School together & then out to lunch. (Mostly to Blackeyed Peas restaurant b/c Grandpa loved their sugar snap peas & black eyed peas.) Just the two of us. After this I would go back to he & my step-grandmother's home where I napped on the couch while he watched football. I felt so safe. (The sound of football still makes me sleepy sometimes.) Grandpa had both Parkinson's & a heart condition but was still faithful on Sundays. When I was 15 or 16 his Parkinson's got too bad for him to drive so he let me drive us to church in his car. Such a gentle & loving man. I can't imagine going through life w/out all these Sundays taught me & nourished me. Sundays w/ Grandpa were very, very special. I wish I had more of them.
Once Mormon missionaries learned that my husband was a member per se they were always coming by our home. I found it so hurtful when they said that my baptism by a very godly man on Easter Sunday "didn't count" b/c my Grandpa didn't have the priesthood authority. I felt God's presence during that baptism so for me, it counted.
Yours definitely counted more than theirs ever would IMO. LDS is a cult

Poor = crazy… we’re bringing the Mormon back with this promo, John, haha
I love when y’all say something unhinged in the dryest, most serious tone possible 🤣
Something about personal revelation they didn't touch on was the gaslighting effect of whether or not you get the personal revelation you are "supposed to" get. For example, if you don't get an answer at all or get an answer that's contrary to what the church has deemed the response that makes them right/true, then "you are the problem"; there's something wrong with you. The church can move the goal post all they want with truth claims, etc. but there's no room for the actual members to feel things that don't align.
The other thing that is related to that is the fact that they say you have personal revelation, but they also say that "surely the lord god will do nothing save he revealeth his secrets to his servants the prophets". Which one is it? Who does god communicate with and give revelation to again? Individuals, or prophets?
The legends!
great tee shirt design, and fine points in THIS episode!
How fun to see John on YOUR turf!!!!
Can not Thank you enough for your approach and understanding. I am Catholic who has mormon friend and can't seem to understand them. I respect but No I won't believe ever what they say or believe. I listen to learn from thoes who were once Mormon. Thanks for your truth. God bless you and keep conversation going.
“At least he told them to boil their water. No wait, that was science.” Literally made the most ungodly cackle 😂😂😂

Carah is so cool and smart, I’m a bit intimidated but I can’t stop listening and trying to learn!!
Without the theft and fairytale thinking of these priesthoods they don’t have a cult
I love Mormon Stories and John’s approach on that channel, but man, i also love this John who is taking no prisoners!! His summary of Christianity around the middle of the video is 🔥
Yo fui conversa, fui a la misión y ahí me di cuenta de todo lo que estaba mal en iglesia, tanto que me enfermé en la misión y me regresaron a casa, no recibí atención médica mientras estuve en la misión. Me diagnosticaron estrés post traumático .
Thank you guys for speaking truth. It’s something that I have yet to find speaking with mormons
50:23 the rock in a hat method used to be characterized as anti-Mormon propaganda. Now Nelson gaslights members with “Oh yeah. It’s always been this way.”
My husband works for Dr. Parkinson! Haha, that's so funny to hear he is the one who told John about the Book of Abraham. Love it!
😂😂... The South Park episode where the followers threatened to drown themselves the reflection pool unless they can get tax exam status ...

I LOVE your Katha quilts on your chair. I have several at home. ❤️
This is the crossover I've been waiting for! John on YOUR show!!! I'm obsessed (in the most healthy, respectful way) with both of you!!! 💙💙💙
I’m what he said at 5:35 and “investigate the Church” after I had two well dressed and well behaved young men knocking on my door earlier this week. I am a Christian and Swedish and Mormons are rare here, but I liked the missionaries and, yeah.. here I am.
OMH... @ 50:00 as you looked into the hat, it seemed pretty obvious how he "transcribed" the plates w/o them being there... by having a page or two of various scripture stuck down in the hat he could plagiarize, w/ the rock being an excuse to reach into the hat to "adjust" it, allowing him to "Turn The Page" 🎶( me singing like you would )🎶LOL.. great song & episode
My shelf was breaking in highschool while my parents were secretly working through my Dad having an affair and being excommunicated. I was the only one of my siblings who knew. In church one day I realized kind of like John that all the times I thought I felt the "spirit" that I was just feeling love. And I had those same spiritual experiences in my every day life and still do now that I left the church again. Left after highschool. Came back after my divorce. And left again. But I still feel that love every day!
Loved this collab! The topic? YES…
But just getting to witness John and Carah’s brilliant minds and wit go at it on screen, is just fun and always enlightening. Thanks guys!
I hope this video travels far and wide. Excellent informative piece👌🏻💖
