    they were ahead of their time, this conception not only of a breathtaking aestheticism (for a "military" and scientific machine) modeled on the wings of a manta ray at the bow as well as the sophisticated forms at the stern for the fluid flow shows in-depth research in this area for greater maneuvering efficiency, stability and fluidity without forgetting the tubular shape surrounding the propellers (attack nuclear submarines,today, have probably chosen this concept to reduce cavitation noises) is to say how this amazing series of the sixties was a vibrant reflection, very realistic and intelligent of what could be our technology in the future. For all this, We salute you "bottom hat "for all those wonderful years that made us dream so much, Mr. IRWIN ALLEN. Thanks for all!

    Really very nice effort. One thing i do wish they would have done was make the Mini-Sub at least double size as well as the Diving Bell. That aside the mere scale and your efforts with the Seaview Model itself is complimentary!

    I bought this model and the decal kit on e-bay and lighting kit from monsters in motion. The lighting kit has 4 LEDS for the control room four more for the observation lights Bow, 2 below and FS bay, 3 for the conning tower and 2 for the tail fins. They give you a lot of extra LEDs if you want to improvise. All were terrific with great instructions. There is some definite mods that you need to figure out what works best for your skill set. It turned out great.

    Just a little heads up ...
    That so called " Line ". Is a seam inside the mold . It's Not important to the looks of the ship and also Not in any photos or videos so it should be Removed it's part of the molding process
    Like the extra plastic flash on a parts tree .

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  5 років тому +1

      It might not be as pronounced on the studio miniature but there is a definite seam present when looking at pics of the larger studio model.

    • @johnrettig1880
      @johnrettig1880 5 років тому +1

      Interstellar Modeler
      I'm not sure. Which photos that you're referring to .
      I also have books about Irwin Allen vehicles : LIS / tos , VTBS / tos .
      These cover some of the behind the scenes construction of Jupiter 2. and SeaView and the Flying Sub and it's collection of small to large scales .
      Now sometimes in the area of 60's , they would add painted shadows to add detail were there isn't this would happen if the model looked too flat to the camera .
      Voyage and LIS where part of the First to change from black and white in season one to color in season two and for that change the ships had to be repainted.
      I use to watch these as a 8 / 9 year old kid and built the Aurora kit of the SeaView also I cut out the bottom of the nose that out lined were the Flying Sub was located and scratch built the top of the F S .

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  5 років тому +1

      John Rettig just pulled up studio miniature pics online and there appears to be a seam there. Not a big deal but every build i’ve seen has it in place.

    • @johnrettig1880
      @johnrettig1880 5 років тому +1

      Interstellar Modeler
      I'll have to take a look at them
      That line in what the bow view to me looks rounded over and not a rough line
      But on the kit it still looks like a mold seam . It wouldn't hurt to soften that ridge a little
      Front / Bows are as smooth as can be .
      But e either way you've done some excellent work .
      I've done 14 museums in my lifetime and over 40 private displays and office .
      I'll say this you're not bad you've done an awesome job .

      @InterstellarModeler  5 років тому +1

      @@johnrettig1880 Thanks John.....I agree with you....the seam does not looks as pronounced on the miniature. A little late to go back with this kit but a very good point for those who are going to build it. Thanks for watching

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  7 років тому +3

      The Seaview is a great kit....Most of the work if I remember was hiding the seam along the windows. If I recall they provided parts for more than one version. Yes the flying sub is small. I never used the photoetch kit but did use the paper/cardstock interior they provided with the individual mini scale flying sub kit. See the video about creating a water diorama. Look forward to seeing yours

    you built a beautiful model and I wish I was half as good as you. however, you made one small mistake in describing it. the bridge of the ship isn't in the bow section. the bridge is right where it is in any normal submarine, directly beneath the conning tower. that area is an observation deck. nobody is perfect, so please don't take this as criticism.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  6 років тому

      This is how the model came I'm afraid.

    • @joeschembrie9450
      @joeschembrie9450 Рік тому

      After the first season, the TV series did a mod on the position of the bridge, moving it so that it was directly behind the front windows. However, the periscope and the conning tower remained in the center of the bridge compartment. This implies that the bridge alone takes up more than half the length of the ship!
      This makes no practical sense. It was done for dramatic effect, so that the actors could stand in the bridge and someone could shout, "Look!" and point out the windows at the approaching Monster of the Week. Cue the dramatic music!

  • @chuchuchip
    @chuchuchip 2 роки тому +2

    FYI: The red sub was a 2 man mini sub. The line you point out in the center of the upper nose doesn't belong. As an adolescent I was obsessed with naval vessels this became my favorite sub, However the TV show was ridiculous in the placement of control room in the sub, periscope, & the missle room. The movie version was better. More realistic, Barbara Eden was the best looking Yeoman to date! Still have fantasies.
    I have both versions, frosted the big windows to hide the stupid interior. The sub had 2 decks, dove deeper than any sub of it's time. It was a super-sub of the late '70s. I loved the design of the craft.
    Oh yeah, I'm retired USN CPO, no I wasn't a submariner, I became an aircraft electrician.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment. My dad who was also a CPO and a submariner in WWII often commented how crazy it was to have a large window up front too. He still got a kick out of watching the show, however. He served abaord the USS Harder. Oh and yes BEden….totally agree with u. Thanks for watching

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  9 років тому

      pining4apple No not in the way it's built here. I'm not an expert at water proofing models but I assume you'd have to seal all the joints and seams with some sort of silicone. You would also have to outfit it with motors and seal up the power source somehow. I have no idea how you'd go about doing that but I'm sure you could probably find answers on the net somewhere. Thanks for watching.

    Looking for some advice. I was given the Moebius Models eight window Seaview as a gift. I am worried about joining the bow and aft sections, as well as other seems on the model. Any recommendations regarding the putty and how to proceed with hiding the teams with putty, and how to proceed sanding it down, what grade of sandpaper do I use, and such. Also, I'd like to LED light the view section interior up as well as the tail section, and the sale. I've never done this before. Any suggestions will be more than welcome.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  3 роки тому +1

      Hi and thanks for the question. Seams can be one of the most challenging aspects of model building. For heavier larger seams I have 2 suggestions. One, Apoxie Sculpt putty. This is a 2 part mixture that you knead equal parts of and is easily molded and sanded. I like that you can thin and smooth it down with water. Once dry it is easy to sand. Start with 400 then move to finer grits (1000-1500) as you go along. Milliput (standard) is an alternative product that is used in the same way.
      The other suggestion, Bondo Spot Putty. Works well too but dries quicker than Apoxie Sculpt. Wet sand, again going from lower to higher grits. Reapply any of these products as often as needed to conceal the seam to your satisfaction. Make sure that you use gloves.
      Concealing seams is a task that requires patience. Be prepared you won't complete it with the first and second application. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
