    Jay when it comes to understanding this camera and learning to get the most out of it, you excel with your knowledge. You are what other UA-camrs should hope to inspire to be. You are quick and organized with tons of examples per topic, in a word, you are Surgical on all things X100v related. Keep up the outstanding content.

      People (myself included) often disregard this feature because we are so used to manual mode and using the back button to autofocus. But I think this is a great feature that can be further refined in the next x100 model to make it more intuitive

    Another lovely video - really enjoy the variation in shots/views you have come a long way since you started on YT. Nice to see the explanations - may even try the focus limiter - never needed in the way I use the camera. GREAT STUFF! Ps I am not a “street” photographer…don’t be afraid to broaden your photographer audience.

      Ah thanks for the Rob, I thought hard about the practical applications of this feature and it really does only suit a very niche usage, mainly in the realm of 'street' photography so I simply applied it to how I would go about using it. Of course, it can be used for anything really😁, however I made sure not to be too specific in the video title 😉

    Honestly, i thought to never use this feature because i mostly shoot with "zone focusing". But after watching your video, there is few interesting case where this AF range limiter is really interesting. Best exemple is your photo with this old woman dressed in red. If, in that case, you was in "zone focusing" method , you obviously has a wider depth of field, caused by an aperture around f8, so in result you're lost a bit of "proximity" create with a shorter depth of field.
    With AF range limiter, you can open wider your aperture and still be very quick to take a shot with someone very close to you and "enhance" the proximity with the subject with a smaller depth of field.
    I'm sorry english is not my native language and i hope what i said is understandable :D . But yeah, it's nice tip to know to increase our creativity.

    • @JayRegular
      @JayRegular  2 роки тому +1

      Yes I think this does indeed help with shooting at lower aperture values and removes a bit of the fear and uncertainty from missing focus and having to compromise with f8 and above

    Serious though, Fujifilm should hire you to decode and explain their complex user manual and features. Dope video. And yeah, I also struggled through this Sydney weather with you bro.

    Since I’m using MF for Zone Focus at 2 meter, I set my AF Range Limiter from 2 meter to 2 meter. It’s like twisting the MF ring ant set it at 2 meter. I usually set the top FN button for AF Range Limiter. So when I do street photography I’ll just press the button. By doing so it’ll be similar to Ricoh GR III’s Snap Focus Mode.

    • @JayRegular
      @JayRegular  2 роки тому

      I tried that method, but I still found it to be not as responsive as the Ricoh snap focus. Fujifilm has a feature that technically should allow you to force the shutter without acquiring focus first, but it doesn't seem to work as I expected.

    Useful info, deep dive, clearly presented, Jay. Nice job, especially including “lab” and “real” test environments. Does reduction in focus hunting result in battery saving?

    • @JayRegular
      @JayRegular  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Paul. There is absolutely no difference in battery consumption 🤣 or maybe there might be a slight difference but I'm not about to test that 😵

    It's a shame Fuji didn't implement the xf10 snap focus setting into the x100v. Or at least allow the FN buton to switch between distance zones rather than to select confirm. The gr is the best digital implementation of hyperfocal/ zone focusing imo.
    Perhaps the only thing the x100v needs is a clutch mf on the lens.

    • @JayRegular
      @JayRegular  2 роки тому

      agreed, the X100v implementation of this feature needs a bit more work, hopefully a revision in the next iteration. As for clutch mf, I guess the best we'll see would be a half-arsed focus by wire system.

    Hi Jay this is an awesome video learning a lot from it thanks. I am new to x100v and just wondering why when I take photos of group of people it only focuses to a few and some faces are blurred. Appreciate your thoughts about this

      It depends on your aperture setting and how close/far your subjects are to the camera

    Thanks for the great video! I'm wondering, if aperture has the same impact on depth of field in this mode as it does when shooting with the range limiter set to off? It would be nice to be able to shoot wide open in lower light in order to capture some candids of family who are sitting at varying distance from the camera?

    • @JayRegular
      @JayRegular  2 роки тому +1

      Aperture is aperture no matter what feature it is used with. Shooting wide open will yield the same look taken at the same distance with the same focal length, with the same aperture value with the same sensor size 👍
