    My Dad and his family lived at 84B Burlington Street up until Eldonian Village was built......the Leddens...Molly...my Nan ...my Dad's brothers and sisters ...John, Annie (had a clothes stall on the market), Eddie, Mary, Christie, Aggie, Frankie, Theresa and Bernie...the youngest my Dad (RIP).....all of them dead and gone now sadly......had some great fun running up and down those granite stairs and chucking things down the chute in the 60's and 70's when we visited Liverpool...............

    Back in the mid 1960s I used to work at the advertising firm Arthur Maidens that was located in Vauxhall Road next to the Manweb Depot. At 1.35 you see the traffic coming north from Scotland Road and Cazanue Street. I would often get of the old 544 or 44D and cross Scotland Road, then over the "oller" by the Bus Stop and walk down the wide expanse of Burlington Street, into Summer Seat, then walk down Blackstock Street cross into Vauxhall Road and into work. I recall clean streets and well maintained houses and flats in these areas. The loss of these long gone scenes and communities for a second tunnel, came in my opinion at too high a price. In London always thought Tottenham Court Road resembled the mix of business and design of Scotland Road as it was.

    I watch all these vids of old Liverpool. My mom was born in 1905 Liverpool. At 55 Portland St. Looking at an old map, it was off Vauxhall road, but going the other way, could lead to Scotland Road. My granddad worked at Tate & Lyle Sugar; he would often stop off at the ''Green Man'' corner pub, for a pint, on his way home. I visited the famous pub, a few years before it was demolished. What a great shame it's gone. It looked smart and clean inside, I talked to the Landlord and a couple of regulars, about 'The Boys from the Blackstuff' being filmed there. My moms home had long gone before then.

      @@paulledden8863 Ye thats him, an absolute legend of Scotland Road! Me and my sister loved going to stay with them at weekends and during school holidays, we would stay for days on end. I remember they lived in the buildings (billogs) before they moved to the High rise flats on Conway street and finally to sylvester Street. A true gentleman who I often think about and still sadly missed.

    My Grandma worked in the Bevington Bush, I believe it was where "having a bevvy" came from ?

    • @DudeSilad
      @DudeSilad 2 роки тому +4

      Sounds good but I'd imagine it comes from the word 'beverage'

    • @saraw6446
      @saraw6446 2 роки тому

      @@DudeSilad I thought that too. "beverage" seems the obvious answer & it may well be true, but not what my family told me & everyone I knew in Vauxhall believed it came from the Bevvy Bush. Also the slang "Bevvy" originates in that area (but again I could be wrong,) It's definitely a better story so all things considered I'm sticking to the Bevvy Bush theory.
      Thanks for your reply, sure brings back memories, I'll visit UK/Liverpool in couple weeks but all these buildings are long gone, just like most of the people sadly, none of my family & friends there & the few still living long ago moved away. Take care S

    • @DudeSilad
      @DudeSilad 2 роки тому

      @@saraw6446 Yes, most of the buildings have long gone. Some may be still standing but the time of pubs on every corner are no more. Lots of people still living off Scottie Road but there's not many houses actually on it anymore. Replaced by shops units and petrol stations. But the city centre is completely rejuvenated and is the best city in the country for having a nice evening out. Would be nice if the term 'bevvy' originated in Liverpool. Don't know if people from other regions use it.

    The German-English society in Montabaur inc. organises twice per year a British evening for the citizens of the town. In multimedia shows we show in each case a region of Great Britain. In the next British evening the subject will be "Liverpool". We earn no profit in the events and raise no entry.
    Would you permit us please to use cuttings of your video for the multimedia show?
