In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.
"task - sandwich - task - falafel - task - one or two bottles of wine" is incidentally how i watch taskmaster
Lol!
The only thing this channel is missing is a release of the unused tie-break challenges. I think it'd be fun to watch.
If they don't use one in a series, they reuse the tie-break task in the next, so they wouldn't show the unused ones of the current series. Maybe they could show how the three other contestants did at a tie-break they used.
@@jaapsch2 Ohh I didn't know that, but it definitely makes sense. Thanks for sharing!
@@jaapsch2but couldn’t they release all of the ones that have been eventually used?
They released the beer mat tie-breaker as a 1,000,000 sub special. So I guess we just have to get the channel to 2,000,000 to see the next one!
Oh Alex, as a Canadian fan of the show, EVERY first episode is me saying "Well, I don't know any of these people!". It's the journey we take with them through the series that warms the cockles, and sub-cockles of our hearts.
I am Canadian too but I guess I watch a lot of UK TV, because usually I know two out of every five.
Nice Denis Leary reference. He'd probably make a decent contestant too.
Fun Fact: He's called Little Alex Horne because he is but one of many Alex Hornes of assorted sizes. Medium Alex Horne probably has the secret task.
I like that idea.
And the, eventual, All Time High Champion of Champion of Champions will need to take on....
Giant Alex.
That makes sense. Just like Regular-sized Rudy.
nice idea. n_n
reminds me of another silly idea i had, where ed gamble (of official taskmaster podcast and winner of series 9 fame) is kept in a cabinet, like a mini fridge or something, just down by Alex's side, bringing back the idea of the taskmaster's assistant's assistant.
Extra-Little Alex Horne meanwhile is hidden somewhere in every episode. Have you spotted him yet?
"Any lack of common sense is frustrating."
Well now I know why Bridget Christie bothered him so much.
He was actually authentically enfuriated by her
Katherine Parkinson was way, way worse and he seemed to like her.
@@glockenrein who could ever be mean to dear sweet Katherine parkinson
That 'you can only step outside the barn 3 times'
"Right. Okay, so I'm going to step in and out for no reason"
task is still the most baffling, imo.
@@glockenreinI think he felt sympathy for KP.
Take it from your international viewers - "I don't know any of those people" is by no means a reason not to watch the show.
And quite often, my most favourite contestant of a series (they're all my favourite, in a way, but usually there's one of them that is just a little more favourite) is often a person that I'd never heard of before.
Alex said „fiddly“ twice in this video which immediately made me think of Mark Watson and his candle task.
Great to see the host of "Alex Horne's Fun House" answering our questions.
Oh! Is that the one with Pat Sharp?
“The children in my house.” Not his children tho
Hey. They're his now. Finders keepers. Minders weepers
Maybe they're Pat Sharp's.
Older and older

Alex, I don't know if you read these, but you mentioned you're always nervous that we won't like the contestants on the first episode. I can safely say that I've started EVERY series unconfident in the contestants, and always been pleasantly surprised and warm with them by the end. You make good choices.
Every seriesbstart my husband thinks they all stink, then ends up liking most or all of them by episode 3 or so.
I am SO EXCITED for the secret task reveal
i think it is the TM on the taskmaster picture in the house......they indirectly, over the shoulder, focus on it during the reading of some tasks
@@aussieintexas61Interesting, I never thought of that. I'll look out for that next episode
I feel like they would have edited out the references to it if no one found it ever. So I am also looking forward to it!!
Alex keeps saying have you found the secret task "around the place". That's got to be a clue.
@@catherines.169 You think Alex wouldn't by the end of the series want to point out where a little secret was the whole time and laugh as the comedians get slightly furious for missing it?
Bill Bailey would be my dream contestant. And surprised he didn’t cite the Riddle task when Guz kept issuing “revelations” from the lab as being his most frustrating - with Bridget’s walking task coming a close second (“that’s because you’re holding it!”).
Pro tip: when you need to show your socks/shoes, you need to lift your leg behind, not in the front. You know, the way the human knee anatomically bends. I know this, because I used to work at a place where we needed to see the sole of the shoes of the customers. For some weird reason, they all tried to do a standing split, until we directed them to raise their heel towards their bums instead of tearing their hamstrings. I also know this because I'm a human myself.
That last bit sounds a lot like something a robot would say... 👀
...or a dog...
...you're not a dog pretending to be a human on the Internet, are you?
His lack of common sense is frustrating.
Yes, you can always tell someone is a human by them making a point of telling you they are a human.
🤨🤔
I AM ALSO A HUMAN AND CAN CONFIRM THAT IS HOW OUR FLESH JOINTS WORK.
I find it fairly easy to bend my foot forward and to the side, personally, to hold my foot in my hand. I may be more than averagely flexible I guess though.
Richard Ayoade would be my dream contestant. And how I wish we could have Sally Phillips again...
Askmaster is such an incredible pun and I can’t believe not more people are talking about it.
You answered my question! You have no idea how happy that made my day! Thank you!
it surprise me that is surprises Alex that Tim Key was on ~ so glad he did Alex and us the favour of doing so
Yeah, to be honest I wish he did more panel shows, he's absolutely hilarious in Taskmaster and he was brilliant on House of Games too. I'd be happy to watch Tim in almost anything!
Thank you Alex to take the time to do such videos for the fans.
Alex deserves (enter something he would like) for giving so much to the international YT community. These were a great selection of questions and answers! Thank you so much for all you're doing and cant wait for the next Askmaster
A lovely pair of thick socks?
What i really want is a Loser of Losers, with Nish, Charlotte Ritchie, Vicki Coren Mitchell, Phil Wang and Ivo Graham.
A more adorable cast couldn't be imagined (unless Mark Watson makes a cameo as Nish's emotional support human) and they're all great at being awful at Taskmaster!
Mark Watson as Nish’s support animal … YES. ❤❤❤😂
Oh, I would love that.
What they should do is give Mark Watson all of the tasks to complete and then invite him on the live show only to tell them that none of them counted because he wasn't part of the actual cast. 😂
Would also love to see David Baddiel in one of those! After all, he has the extra challenge of being David Baddiel 🤣❤
As long as Nish is forbidden for shouting “shit & piss” every thirty seconds. That was infuriatingly irritating.
Alex ❤ thank you for giving us TM! And thank you for uploading for us non-UK peeps :)))
Where is episode 4?
If we had a season with Stephen Merchant and Richard Ayoade I would actually throw up from happiness
One of them in one season and the other one in another season would be still more than "good enough"...
"React to the news of two fellow contestants doing this show, you have 10 minutes to prepare and 1 minute to react. Your time starts now!"
Ricky Gervais, Warwick Davis...
I feel like it's been discussed a lot previously, Ayoade and Mitchell wouldn't do it.
David Mitchell will NEVER do the show
Alex Horne's Fun House With Pat Sharp is a good alternative title. Bonus points awarded for not being anything like Fun House and not involving Pat Sharp in any way.
Can we have the twins? 😉
Or Alex Horne's House Party with Mr. Blobby...
Or with Pat Butcher instead?
the garden of sadness with emily blunt
I would like to see Henning Wehn, David O'Doherty and Bill Bailey on Taskmaster. Maybe not all at once but they've all made me laugh so hard on WILTY and 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown that I want to see this happen.
I'm surprised Jimmy Carr hasnt been on. He is on everything always
@@sonny9493 "He is on everything always" that's prob's your answer then... "Too busy"
@@sonny9493I also think that he wouldn’t want to be a contestant since he hosts so much 😂
That the Taskmaster's (Napoleon's) assistant would wind up as the king of Sweden is a mad tight, historical deep-cut. I'm here for it.
I, too, am here for that solid House of Bernadotte joke.
The problem is that Napoleon wanted the Danish King Frederick VI to become King of Sweden, not Bernadotte. Then he wanted his adopted stepson or another one of his blood relatives. Napoleon did eventually come around to supporting Bernadotte's candidacy.
Of course, Bernadotte repaid him for his support by being a main driving force in creating the Sixth Coalition that ultimately defeated Napoleon.
I don't see Alex displeasing the Taskmaster like that. OTOH, if he were King of Sweden, maybe he could fix Bäst i Test (aka Swedish Taskmaster) so they'd stop doing the annoying rotating guest contestant every week format.
I’m chronically on Reddit yet I still manage to miss all of these, I’m starting to believe it’s my personal task
This one was on UA-cam I think
your time starts now.
They posted on Reddit for another one with the champions of series 11-15. This one was only shared on a UA-cam short and maybe TikTok (I don't TikTok so I don't know for sure).
@@ShinyHubCapson the UA-cam community page.
Stephen Merchant is also my number 1 dream contestant for Taskmaster! So glad to hear Alex agrees and they want him 🤞
but i also want Richard Ayoade.
They should visit a Stephen merchant to see if they have that kind of Stephen on offer.
I also want Dawn French on TM.
We all know what Steve is like so if the money is right he'd definitely do it
Eddie Izzard would be perfect!
The railway museum was the first task I saw. I didn't realise it was from this show until I saw quite a few more bits and episodes of the show when I fell in love with it.
"I'm out of breath from lifting my leg up" - epitome of reaching 30
I would love to see Richard Ayoade on Taskmaster - I imagine he would flat out refuse to do a couple of the tasks throughout the series.
Cheers for answering my question, nice to hear you're doing well.
Genuinely the most insightful QA they've done yet. Love it!
Help I’m in love with Alex Horne when did this happen
He is the world's most perfect man.
halfway thru series one , very underrated sense of humour...
Maybe when you started appreciating all the 'little' things in life :)
"He says he's over 6 foot, but he's only 5 foot 4, its little alex horne!"
Alex is a True Legend
Eeeeee thank you for answering my question!!!!!! I got very very excited!!! I love your socks!!!!!! :-) :-)
The first show of any new series I do think "Oh, I'm not sure I like any of these people". But they almost always wind up growing on me in an episode or two, and by the end of the series I'm always wishing we could get a couple more episodes.
As a fan, I always give a new season 3 shows before I feel the contestants gel with their chemistry. And then I watch the series anyway. Haven't skipped an episode yet! Love from Texas!
5:10 I don't think that's much of an issue, once thing I've learned of taskmaster is that even if I don't like the usual comedic style of some of the comics taskmaster forcing them out of it is usually enjoyable. The opposite can also happen but is more rare.
I have had the opposite happen (love someone's comedy but find them unpleasantly rude or obnoxious on the show). But yes, far more often it's in the other direction.
Thank you for the Q&A. It's always fun to peek behind the curtain of my favorite show! ❤
These rare videos where it's just Alex Horne makes you realize just how much he makes this show great. He's got this really amazing dry humor and is amazing at coming up with really funny stuff on the fly; he just kind of slips in all these little jokes that catch you off guard. That humor also shines through the tasks he writes and they have just the right balance of being funny, wholesome, and a little bit annoying. He started this show and I think the show would quickly end without him running it; I hope he keeps doing it for years to come.
He has a really quick wit and awesome absurdist / awkward sense of humour, such a gem in the crown of British comedy!
I’m seeing him with the Horne Section in Dublin in October, I am so excited!!
I love how he now refers to himself as "Little Alex Horne"
His kids don't call him daddy now they call him Little Alex Horne
What is your favorite pair of socks?
The ones that I’m wearing right now - I wear them as often as possible. They’re blue with skulls and lightening bolts on them.
What is your least favorite color?
At last! Blue, or red, or something like that.
*****
Quite the paradox.
Wait, _actual_ lightning bolts?
That sounds quite busy.
There's a saying that it is better to wear your least favourite colour in socks than on a hat.
Of the many options, I think Julian Barratt would bring me the most joy
One person I wished to appear on TM was Sean Lock. RIP :(
Next person I wish to appear on TM .. is me 😅
When you have a one-off special, it would be interesting if you could get a few Doctor Whos to compete against each other. Companions can fill in if needed. Getting their time would perhaps be the tricky thing, unless they appreciate the challenge of the combo.
"When a studio task fails, thats the climax of the show"
Honestly and truly, one of the best moments of the American television show "Monster Garage" was their first failure.
The human element can make or break a show, and Taskmaster is a show all about the human element. Those few failures, while they are failures, reinforce the show's humanity.
The problem is that tasks don't fail because no one succeeds, they fail because they aren't entertaining to watch, and I think there are more ways for a studio task to go wrong (because they have to be fast, with less room for different approaches, and are heavily dependent on chemistry) and feel worse when they do (because ending the episode on a sour note feels worse).
@@noatropealso there's a live audience.
I remember Monster Garage, but it has been so long ago. Which one failed?
I remember getting disillusioned from the show because they'd miraculous get a hold of insanely expensive things ... for $100 or whatever. Because of that I liked the early episodes the most, they seemed more true to the premise or the challenge.
Thanks for doing these every askmaster videos! Love the insight from behind the scenes of one of the best shows!
After watching the "sausage" task from season 16 Im really curious if he has ever gotten food poisoning.
Or the Bin Juice 🤢
He did get hit in the face pretty hard a few seasons ago! That was hysterical. I was laughing so hard I was crying on the Amtrak train.
Loved it. So interesting to get a glimpse behind the curtain.
I'd love to see Henning Wehn on Taskmaster.
I haven't seen Henning Wehn in a while actually
Me too! I think he'd be hysterical!
I love this show and i love that you are dropping them on youtube... i dont have access to watch taskmaster on television.
Alex, we love you so much. Alex will never see this but he is so smart and plays a character who purposely is the butt if most jokes, thank you for taking one for the team. ❤️
Most of the people who have done New Years Treat I'd describe as unexpected. Waiting to see if one of the Bake-off judges does it, since half the presenters have been on Taskmaster.
Third time watching all of the seasons. Fan-funking-tastic show. Great job Mr. Horne
Only third??? What are you doing with your life😂 I've must have done every series at least 5 times at this point
We love you little Alex horn.
Thank you, Alex, amazing show!
“Click on this video thinking it’s the old AMA and when Alex mentions series 16 your mind must touch the void in confusion. Your time starts now!”
Desperately needing Dan and Phil on for a new years treat episode I don't even know, would they have to compete against each other or could there be a one off duo on it 😂
…”task, one or two bottles of wine” gave me a hard chuckle
"Tim Key doesn't do panel shows". He's been on "8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" and "Richard Osman's House of Games".
Stephen Merchant would be amazing for Taskmaster
The creativity of the tasks is really incredible. I'm very proud of you, Little Alex Horne.
I greatly enjoyed this Q&A...😊
I'd love Stephen Merchant to be on the show too so I'm glad you're trying! Taskmaster has managed to get deep into national treasure territory by now, so all of my "dream contestant, but they'd never do it" have become "ooh maybe this series..." for me once Jo Brand/Johnny Vegas/Alan Davies/Sarah Millican to name but a few agreed to do it, all bets were off 😄
I also wish for Stephen Merchant to appear. My number one wished for contestant is Adam Savage. My dream cast also includes Dawn French, Susie Dent, and any or all of the Six Idiots (but, most preferably, Jim Howick).
Woohoo, my question got answered!!
Which one was that ?
@@anthtan it was the last question about how many tasks they do in a day and how much time do they have between tasks.
I need David Mitchell, Richard Ayoade, and Matt Berry on the show. Life would be complete.
That was really good, and there were some surprises too!
We love you, Little Alex Horne!
He's stopped saying Jack Dee for his dream guest, which makes me think that Mr Dee has probably been booked for a future series.
Coming from an international viewer, I hope they continue to feature guests who are lesser known. Some of my favorite performances have been by people I had not known before watching Taskmaster, and I've gone on to enjoy their other work. "I don't know those people" is fine, and I get that you want to have someone in the cast who is more established to play alongside the obscure and the newbies, but I think that it's more important how their personalities interplay with each other rather than for them to be well-known already. And maybe Taskmaster is the thing that makes them known!
Absolutely brilliant. Thank you LAH.
YES Stephen Merchant would be insane
“The children in my house” is a great way to refer to your children!
My dream Taskmaster contestant that will most likely never happen - Adam Savage from Mythbusters.
Oh, wow, Adam would be great
I would love to see that.
There is always at least one person who I am not a fan of in every series, but as the series has gone on it has become more frequent that there is more people I am not a fan or people I have never heard of. That said, it's quite often the people I normally do not like that end up being my favourites in tasks. Judi Love for is a perfect example. Never been a fan, but she was the star of the series she appeared in.
I have a pet peeve of anyone addressing people as "babes". For that reason alone Judi Love will always be toward the bottom of my contestant list, but that's not her fault. I agree she was a fun contestant.
I mean the series does heavily depend on if you like the people involved, but yeah there are some great surprises like I had no idea about Mike Wozniak or Charlotte Ritchie and loved them both.
If I worked a cruise liner I'd jump on this
This was lovely in every way xD
Thank you so much for realising that UA-cam is perfect for your content and uploading the whole episodes + Videos like this one ❤
PS. I feel like Stephen Merchant would (or rather will?) be absolutely brilliant
I am so suprised that they didn't weigh the items before the S16 task with the leafblower and teddy... oh and Steven Merchant would be amazing!
Would love to see Stephen Merchant on the show too! Loving the show and thought this video was brilliant 👏
Alex produced one of the best shows ever. Hats off to you sir.
Don’t feed Little Alex Horne after midnight.
Steven Merchant with Susan Calman, the height difference!
This leaves me asking more questions!
can’t comprehend going on Taskmaster and never watching it. i’ve always thought the same about Hot Ones, like HOW do these unprepared?!
Thank you, LAH. You made my day.
Can you please make compilations of team tasks? I love the chemistry of certain teams ❤
The railway task, still my favorite.
Also a THANK YOU for all the tasks during the pandemic. It really helped.
Lastly, please get Matt Berry and Richar 'Moss' on the show. or an entire IT crowd special
I had never really thought about Tim Key's lack of appearances on panel shows.
It is such a shame, he is one, of not my favourite comic. Everything he does from his serious acting to his delivery of a joke amazes me.
It is not even an explainable thing, his personality is just infectious.
The leather Christmas hat is brilliant!
just casually pulling Bernadotte out of the bag like that, impressive
Jim Gaffigan is my favorite comedian and while I know he'd never do the show I think it would be great to see him try and do some of these tasks. I think it would be hilarious, plus he's a clever guy, too.
LAH reaaaally does not need to be worried about aging because he just gets better and better looking! 😅🥰😍
Even though Greg is the taskmaster, I would love to see him do tasks.
You saw him "opening" the little tricky box, right?
Imagine him "solving" all tasks with that manner.
Those were great questions. Somehow in my fantasy, the contestants would come in to do a or perhaps 2 tasks a day. 😂
I want to see Andy Zaltzman on a series, please and thank you.
And your entry for the prize task is going...
IN THE BIN!
I love Alex.
Alex Horne, you're so funny. mind of gold
