Girl if you don’t like a track or albums direction that is your rightful opinion to have and no deranged fans should ever try to sway or change it. I love you because of your genuine honesty and if others can’t see that then be gone. I wasn’t feeling solar power as much but I appreciate and respect her artistic journey for this album. "this was glued an my wig stayed glued." (Melanie Martinez, after school reaction) and "nasty didn't make me wanna go nasty" (Ariana, positions reaction) as well haha
the song doesn’t sound like hiadt though? unless all acoustic guitar songs are the same to you lol 😭 edit: just remembered hope is a piano ballad not guitar but my point stands idc

This album was a massive grower for me, however I totally understand why so many people were disappointed in it. It’s a beautiful album to me personally, I do feel it is is EXTREMELY niche. I still do love Melodrama more however.

The impact that Pure Heroine and Melodrama have had on my life is crazy, and when solar power came out I was slightly disappointed but I can say it’s definitely grown on me and I’ve come to appreciate her more as an artist. I’m obsessed with Mood Ring, Secrets from a Girl, SATNS, The Path, The Man, and California. Honestly those songs are up there for me with her other albums
Being honest, what i'm missing is some energy/strong sentiments. I really appreciate the messeges lorde is trying to convay, but without actuall having strong sentiment with it - sounds kinda hollow. Like a really peaceful religious guy trying to convince you, yet has no passion twords what he cares about. Guess it's too chill for me lol. Would be awsome to hear your thoughts on poppys "flux", she managed to switch from pop, metal (!) and now soft rock infused with pop. Promise that even if it isn't your taste, you won't fall asleep trying to follow it
See that’s the thing. The song is full of energy and strong sentiments but it’s hurt not the kind you’re looking for. There’s literally a song about her dog who passed, her boyfriend, how the generations before us have destroyed the environment and left us with nothing basically, a satire of wellness culture, etc
sorry, I don't agree, the point is really that soft rock is like this, this is the sound, it's not hollow or without energy, that's the purpose of it so for those who like it, it's amazing. it's so refreshing. the problem here is that nowadays kids are used to pop, dance-pop, rap, all these loud genres and they can't appreciate anything different. if you make this listen to your parents, they will recognize something that belongs to them
@@beatricesasso5932 she did capture that sound which is why I liked some of them but it’s a very hit and miss sound. It gives some of them no replay value.
Solar Power is definitely Lorde taking a step back from pop. For me it felt like reading one of Lorde's diaries or having a really deep conversation with her sitting next to a campfire. I think this is some what of her first step into a totally new phase of life. This album is an artistic statement to me. Not something I need to play 24/7 but something I can come back to and find meaning in over time.
i feel exactly the same. she doesn't desire popularity with this album, she just wants to express what she's been through and seen with her new type of artistry.
this is exactly how I would describe solar power, chemtrails over the country club and folklore, although solar power is the summer version, chemtrails is spring and folklore is autumn ✨
10000000% a grower album. It's such a good album to put on and chill. I actually find it to be some of her best work tbh and at first I was like wtf is this Lordey
I love it so much more when you're bluntly honest with your thoughts like in this video, rather than trying not to offend fans and tiptoeing around your thoughts. I find the honesty really funny lol
@@burningcold2793 Probably just to reset and focus on her personal life. Being a huge public figure on the Internet does get draining at times. Ajay's not sitting between the bows 24/7. :)

I really feel like Lorde stepped back from her dynamic sound, and its totally okay for artists to grow and change what they do, but its therefore normal to lose some fans along the way. I adore Lorde, have seen her in concert twice, played her first two albums over and over for years, and Solar Power was just... I don't know, after four years, you expect to be hit in the chest the same way her other albums did. I agree that Stoned at the Nail Salon and Fallen Fruit are the better songs- I adore those two. But nothing else stuck with me, and it left me sad. I tried so hard to get into this album and I couldn't.
I think you stated this perfectly - and of course, the Lorde stans are gonna be up in arms about the fact you can dislike some music of one of your favorite artists. I think Lorde still has that potential for amazing music, and lyrically she's fantastic. But agree, Solar Power (the album) didn't stick with me like I hoped it would :(
I totally agree :/ And it’s really frustrating that you can’t even say this nowadays without people flipping out and saying you’re tasteless or comparing it to her old music but in all honesty it has nothing to do with that. I really am not a fan of this era, but I’m very happy for her for stepping out of her comfort zone and being happy
Agree… but music is really subjective. Im a melodrama stan and I hate every songs in the first listens. No I don’t really hate it-I just dont expected them to sound like this. Some love the instrumentals because they thinks its simple and perfect for chilling. For sleeping etc. But I feel like these songs are demos. She’s so capable of doing better. Super capable. I dont know she shouldve take her time.
It's quite subjective. I love solar power as much as I love pure heroine and melodrama. YOUR favourite is not necessarily MY favourite and vice versa. For instance, I'm a Lana stan, but NFR is not my favourite album of hers. It definitely comes after Ultraviolence ,Blue banisters and Honeymoon.
It did grow on me! But to be fair but I still think PH and melodrama especially are still so much better which is sad to say bc I’m a massive lorde fan
People say this album is a grower, but the only thing that grew after 8 listens is my ability to tolerate it as background music when my phone is too far away or I'm busy doing something and I can't skip the song. I still feel the same - it's missing something and I'm okay with the fact that this album is not for me I guess. Too bad, I love Lorde. :(
I cut down the track list to Stoned at the Nail Salon Fallen Fruit The Man With the Axe Big Star Mood Ring Oceanic Feeling And it’s a much nicer listen. I appreciate the direction she’s gone in but I didn’t need 12 tracks of it 😅
I really appreciate your genuine take! One of the biggest problems I have with this album is that not only is the music underwhelming but if you listen to the lyrics they’re very superior. A lot of “I’m better than you because I’m not on social media” vibes that really rub me the wrong way. Also all-ballad albums are risky. There are a couple songs here that would work as the ballads on a mixed album (Fallen Fruit is probably my favorite song on the album, Stoned at the Nail Salon is also pretty good) but when every song has exact the same vibe they all blend together and not in a good way.
You got "I'm better than you" from "I can't feel a thing, I keep looking at my mood ring"? Also, I'm sure that cult leader vibe was supposed to come off that way... say in the solar power mv.... she was trying to satirize it & connect it to how people seek approval from the celebrity world. I mean... the album opens with "we're all broken & sad, where are the dreams that we had?", " I thought I was a genius, but now I'm 22" & ends with "has enlightenment been found?no". Maybe you're just projecting, cuz out of all Lorde eras to choose from.. Pure heroine is right there with teen angst..
I got the same vibes. But i want to think that Thats what she wanted us to think. Like making it so explicit and, in a way, make it a comedy or a satire. anyways, i dont like the album. I just liked it Mood Ring
I agree with you. Personally my only problem is the underwhelming instrumentation but also most of the time I have no idea what she's talking about. Like what do all those names mean? It feels like I'm reading jumbled thoughts from the diary of someone I know nothing about (the ocean, for example) But Fallen Fruit is a gem
i actually liked the album, it became my most played album in like two weeks since it came out. I would play it on the beach everyday and in nature, stoned, just like I think Lorde intended. Listening to this album in nature or near the sea on a beach while the sun hits you is a different experience, a better one. And makes you appreciate the album
@@ashromo8968 Its not just a stoner album SMH, why be so subjective, ik you don't mean the beach. And like obviously you can say your opinion, but not like if its degrading the initial thoughts and feelings of who said it just cause pot.
For me Solar Power was definitely a grower... It’s very different to Melodrama, but beautiful in its own way. I like that she came back different. BTW your Melodrama video is one of my favorites UA-cam videos of all time!
You’re entitled to your opinions! That’s the beauty of music, and no authentic fan should be making someone feel shame for not enjoying a particular song or album. It’s almost like if you don’t like every single song, you’re not a *real fan* I didn’t connect with the music or album, at first. It didn’t blend with my personal aesthetic and despite giving it a good listen, I didn’t seem to find myself lost in the music. However, since it’s release it’s really grown on me. I take notice of the words and it makes the tune travel differently. It’s crazy because I genuinely didn’t enjoy the album, or understand it. Now, it’s almost like I’ve found a newfound piece of myself, and a newfound acceptance of particular things. It also helped me be less invested in the social world, and be more connected with the physical world. It may lack seasoning, but what it lacks in seasoning , it makes up for in meaning.
Girl, it's okay if you don't like a song or an album. People need to understand that this is an opinion and it doesn't necessarily mean that the album IS actually bad or something and that goes the other way around Lorde is one of my favourite songwriters and artists of all time, and I also felt no connection and that something was missing. I was so sad, because I fucking love her and was waiting for her album for years, but I didn't feel it and that's totally fine. I didn't question her abilities or even doubt them. And I'll be waiting for her next project patiently, and still get excited when I try to listen to it for the first time Artists have the right to make their music and listeners have the right to give opinions as long as they're being respectful I didn't feel it, but someone else does and good for them
Exactly. People seem to forget that she is just a human being with her own opinions like everyone else. Just because she doesn’t like an album doesn’t necessarily mean the album is terrible. Everyone has their own taste in music and I’m glad she keeps it real with her reactions. Especially after the Gaga fans bullied her into enjoying Chromatica
@@victormorais1625 Maybe most people find it bad among those who reviewed it but that doesn’t mean you can say it’s bad in general, people still have the right to like it. It’s just not your taste.
for me, this wasn't an album i could listen to in full, but i did find myself going back and listening to certain tracks over and over like secrets from a girl, california, and dominoes. great to have on repeat or on a playlist with other artists songs.
i find it more (respectfully) like an audiobook experience, but the emphasis feels more artistic and focused on storytelling, the arrangements are full of space to absorb in the stories. I find it hard to compare this to her other albums because for me this is something entirely different
Now that's just trying to make an excuse for the bullshit of an album she gave. Like how American Horror Story fans make excuses for the declining quality of each new season. "New art" take.
@@woefulwarlock6381 yes!!! they wanna transfer blame to US, as if we just dont get it or we just have the mental or emotional capacity to fully understand the album. Thats not true: it is entirely possible that it is just not good.
exactly, she most likely stripped back the production to emphasize the songwriting. it’s not a bad album, it just isn’t doing what other people wanted it to do and that’s okay because that wasn’t the purpose. it’s not an album for them but it’s not a bad album. she even said herself she wasn’t reaching for commercial success or to be immediately understood. anyways Solar Power 4ever
i feel she's going down the same trajectory as Katy Perry with teenage dream where like both made such an iconic and a staple album, that anything else will always be compared and viewed less than it
@@evanstan8360 I'm not sure about what you're saying, but, Solar Power is a stand alone album. Comparing it with any other album is sort of a waste of time. Best, worst, whatever, doesn't matter. Solar Power is excellent in its own right. Her singing is as strong as ever. Her songwriting maybe even more powerful than anything she's done before. The music production is delightful! But, to each his own.
I felt kinda dissapointed from Solar Power but it has grown on me A LOT, even the title track, it is a grower, it's a simple album which is an adorable way to grown since Melodrama, just happy and no complications. Still Melodrama is top tier. By the way, i can't express how much i miss you AJAYII
@@dualipa4106 no, it's not, even if is kinda decent for someone like Lorde who is an amazing artist, still is better than half of the industry right now.
I think some of the songs have potential. For instance I think the title track would sound amazing as kind of a beachy soft rock song. Same with mood ring.
I hope you’re doing ok!! To be honest, at first I didn’t like the album that much but listening to it over and over again for a couple days got me absolutely hooked. Oceanic feelings, secrets from a girl, big star, and California have all been such comforting songs for me that I love to listen to at night.
Solar Power is definitely a grower. It took me 5 times to listen to this album before i liked it. But i can understand why a lot of people aren't too into it especially since it is such a different sound to her last two records. But im so happy with the new reaction, so great to see you again Ajay!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I feel like I’ve kinda grown with lorde through the years and I’ve come to a more calm state in my own life, so I was pleasantly surprised that she reached a similar path. Melodrama was fun, dark and excited but I think it’s time to cool it down, whatever that means 😉.
My sister was like, "You're still watching her?" and I was like "Yes ofcourse!" And it's gonna be four years next month since I've started watching your videos AJay!
I think its a summer album obviously, i think it would have been better if she spiced it and worked on it until the next summer so she would have added about 7~ish more months onto the production to make it better and have it released at a more relevant time

This album has definitely grown on me. I didn't like most of the songs and thought they all sounded the same. But then I would randomly get lyrics stuck in my head, especially from California (a song I didnt think I liked at all lmao) and after that I listen to the album all the way through and gravitate towards it often. Strange effect. My fav songs off the album now are Mood Ring, the Path, Dominoes, and Oceanic Feeling
This definitely is a 180 from Melodrama, and even tho I still prefer Melo, Solar Power is an album that grows on you with each listen. Nowadays, my favorites include The Path, St*ned at the Nail Salon, Fallen Fruit, Secrets from a Girl, Dominoes, Mood Ring, and Oceanic Feeling. BTW, anyone sending AJ hate can f**k right off.
We missed you, honey!! So glad you're back, and yes, I have mixed feelings about this album too, I only like a few songs but that's okay, we can enjoy things and be critical about it!! I still love Lorde and completely respect her musical journey
@@mbmd_nation no its not boring. If you dont like stripped down chilling vibes calm music its not your type and you dont get to say this is boring. Personally i adore this type of music and she delivered with Solar Power💛.
@@mbmd_nation I find it quite boring. Which is bizarre because Folk/Bluegrass music is my top genre’s which this album takes a lot of influence from. Something about it is just meh
for me, i understand why a lot of lorde fans were underwhelmed with this album to begin with. it’s folk, stripped back, guitar driven and simple which we had never really seen from lorde up until this point, and seeing how complex and a rollercoaster of emotions melodrama was, solar power definitely comes across as boring to begin with. however, i absolutely love it! as a fan of folk music, i felt right at home with this album. whilst i definitely do feel that you have to really love folk music in order to truly appreciate the album, i still feel that it has been under appreciated by a lot of critics and fans.
they were only pretending to like it because literally who would like it except the fans 😭 there were like maximum of 2-3 bops. but at least, she is happier in this album.
I think that what happen with Solar Power was that it must have been very difficult for Lorde to release an album after the f***ing masterpiece that Melodrama was, especially after 4 years, when the expectation and hype for a new Lorde album were insanely huge. this album has a whole different sound compared to Melodrama and even Pure Heroine, probably because right now she is in totally different mental place than she was when she recorded her previous works, and we aren't still used to this new Lorde. Still, very proud of her, because she seems really happy, and that's all I care about. Loving your reactions as always Ajay! And I'm really happy that you are back too:)
I really really tried to like this album, i literally forced myself to like some songs, but as time went by, i listened to them less, and now i haven't listened to the album for a long time, and finally i understood it is a bread without salt.
I'm someone never crazy with Lorde's first 2 albums. I like her big hits but never connected with her albums as a whole. However, with this new sound, I'm OBSESSED! Absolutely love this unique album and I vibe hard with it. Always a very relaxing listening experience for me.
I'm so glad for this review being forthright, this is hands down why I love this channel. That rawness and real emotions when listening to masterpieces. I think you should also listen to Daddy's Home by St. Vincent. It's also produced by Jack Antonoff but the songs have style. Especially worthy if you're into music that was before 2000s. It's a mix of everything.
my favorite album of all time. A GROWER. its an cohesive album of self-healing and evaluation. man with the axe, bridge and ending keep me warm, happy thoughts. Oceanic feeling is easy to understand, and raps everything up with a bow. I ❤️”split the tab with you lover laugh at the stars at her lover *adorable Lorde laugh*. (In solar power the song) ---> the horns get me every-time. Fallen fruit is when I get hyped up for “don’t make me choose” part. Feels extra magical with attention. The album as a whole is a step of her life. A new direction which is natural because humans change as people. repeating the album makes it better. as u notice the changes from melodrama, it exponentially grows. 10/10 secrets from a girl, man with a axe, big star, oceanic feeling, and fallen fruit are my favs. Im a die-hard fan of Ella or (Lorde) so if your reading this, thats why. much love. I feel almost way too nerdy, but this is a exception, you better BELIEVE IT. ️
So true it's my favorite album of her I don't understand the hate this album receive.. it's a healing album, the positive energy and the self-love I get when I listen to it is unbelievable + Idk why people can't understand that this is what makes her happy now
This made my whole day, I just got really devastating news and I opened UA-cam to see your video. It helped me calm down and clear my mind. I’m so happy your back, you make a lot of peoples day as well.
Lorde basically releases an album every four years. Her first “Pure Heroine” was released in 2013, her second “Melodrama” was released in 2017, and her third “Solar Power” was released in 2021. I wouldn’t be surprised if her fourth album is released in 2025.
except solar power feels like she woke up once, looked at the calendar, said 'ah shit its gonna be 4 years in like 2 months' and wrote a bunch of songs in a week and released them without a second draft
@クリムゾン yeah just like she said the album after melodrama would be solely produced by her. The issue with lorde is that she lives a recluse life, and she's in a stable relationship so she just has nothing to write about
@@iwilitu6591 omg i knew i wasn't imagining her plan to solely produce her next album (this!). hope she finally gets the enough inspiration and drive to make that happen
This is my favourite album of Lorde since the first time. Love how she wrote abt her family, her land, the nature, and specially her dog. Lorde mixed the type of songs her parents used to hear when they were younger at 60s with what she liked when she was a girl at the 2000s. And she did gracefully, going to places she never visited. Guitar, real instrumentals, no synths...so raw and gutural. The way she allowed herself to do what she wants, without thinking abt what ppl were going to say. She was concerned when she dropped melodrama, and she felt the flop. And i guess she started questioning everything and decided to live her life and do music she loves and can be proud of even If the numbers are not the best. She did, she was brave
I'm so sad you didn't like it, I love "Solar Power"! But that's ok, it's understandable why lots of fans didn't connect with it at all. Personally, I appreciate the stripped back and simple production, it sounds beautiful, soothing to me. Its sonority feels like a rest after "Melodrama".

The monologue at the end of secrets from a girl was done by the singer Robyn, whose music you should definitely check out. Body Talk is an amazing album.
i hated this album when it first got out. fast forward to early 2022.. i listened to stoned at the nail salon with paying attention. then i gave it a another shot. I felt connected with the album because I understood where she’s in life and her new direction. also i fucking loved listening to this during the summer and it became one of my most listened albums of the year. when you change your expectations about an album or can approach them without having prejudices, you actually enjoy them more.
My best ranked: Carlifornia Fallen Fruit Mood rings Secrets of a girl (who's seen it) Oceanic Feeling The path Stoned at the nail salon Man with the axe Big star Dominoes Solar Power Leader of a new regime
I was expecting this reaction from Ajay to Solar Power. It's the general reaction. It was kinda how my first listen went although I really liked the singles. But on my second or third listen it grew on me. I love the sun worship concept. I enjoy most of it all the time now and I don't do skips ever on any album. Fine it's Lorde's least appealing project and that's a general thing but I've come to love it actually.
I couldn't get into this album either. I enjoyed Pure Heroine a lot and Melodrama is one of my favorite albums EVERRRRR. But Solar Power just does not do it for me. The only track I go back to often is Mood Ring. Also, please react to Kacey Musgraves' new album star-crossed next! Glad you're back, Ajay~
a lot of people were saying that people only hate this cause it's happier unlike melodrama. I strongly disagree she could do happier and lovely songs in not so boring ways. The problem is that its not sad, but it's boringggg. Its like she didn't even tried for the instrumentation and the overall of the song, she just wants to say what she wanted to say in her diary.
The problem is that you didn’t get it, and that’s fine. Like Ella said, she doesn’t make music for you, she does it for herself. I find that fuck you to all of the people kinda refreshing.
I genuinely expected to dislike or even hate the album, but it's become one of my most absolute favorite releases this year. I feel like in its own way, the album captures the spirit of the current times ... People are feeling wistful and lethargic, and therefore the album sounds like a proper product of the pandemic. She knows she's falling short of her perceived greatness in the past, and yet she's completely fine with it. It's right there in The Path ("If you're looking for a saviour / Well, that's not me"), which she has described multiple times as the album's "thesis statement". My top three: 1. Secrets from a Girl (Who's Seen It All) 2. Mood Ring 3. Big Star
solar power isnt a first listen kinda album, it grows on you when you dont expect, listening on shuffle helps alot because the tracklist seens dense one after another, also helen of troy from the deluxe version is one of her best songs from this project
Lmaoooo “First time I heard it I was overwhelmed, second time I just can’t wait for this to be overrrr” 🤣😭 I feel bad cause I haven’t really listened to the whole album & I think Lorde is cool and I like a lot of her music but I was pretty bored trying to give this project a listen. I watched cause i love your vibe and commentary, AJay! I’ll have to give the album another try
I think the new album made a lot of people listen to it multiple times in an attempt to fall in love with it, because it’s lorde, and also because we were hoping to love it as much as melodrama. The album is too bland, with beautiful parts sometimes, which is sad 😬 Also, your adlibs for solar power would have made it so much better 😭
Thats the major problem with this album all the beautiful parts aren't progressed its very short for an example on oceanic feeling at the end of the song jack harmonize with her for like 3 seconds 😑
This album has de-grown (if that's a thing) on me. The first time I listened to it, I thought it was amazing, top of the year, but now the more I listen to it the least impressed I get. Fallen Fruit is still a bop, though
Exactly! When I first heard the two songs Solar Power and Stoned at the nail salon I thought they were amazing. Now I can hardly ever hear these songs, let alone the rest of the album. It's just boring and tiring

So secrets from a girl who's seen it all is supposed to be a response to ribs from her perspective after she has already grown up, Big star is a song for her dog who passed away, and just for that i kinda liked it more than i first did 😅 and fallen fruit and leader of a new regime are about climate change and like a "post climate apocalypse end of the world" type of thing where civilization has ended and everyone is running away to god knows where. It's really not the album i was expecting AT ALL but i still respect it as an album, was the worst thing that I've heard from Lorde? yes sadly, but nonetheless i enjoyed listening to the album for the first time, trying to understand the lyrics just vibing with the sound and simply letting it sink in

It’s totally fine if you don’t love the album, everyone has their own tastes when it comes to music. Ngl the first time I listened to SP it really threw me off because I was expecting a “Melodrama” type sound (as was everyone I’m pretty sure). But after listening to it more, you really appreciate it for what it is, regardless of whether or not it’s your favorite. So I’d say try not to compare the two albums while listening because it’ll ruin the experience.
I know we were all expecting the melodrama, but solar power is a grower. I recently went to her concert in Washington D.C and she was amazing live. You get to enjoy this album in person even more.

Not something I need to play 24/7 but something I can come back to and find meaning in over time.

i already expected that you would feel this way about Solar Power, but as much as you are disapointed, I'm happy to watch a new reaction from you!!!!
Same here.

Some love the instrumentals because they thinks its simple and perfect for chilling. For sleeping etc. But I feel like these songs are demos. She’s so capable of doing better. Super capable. I dont know she shouldve take her time.
This is 1000% accurate
Well. Its like she did because they all sound like demos.
It's Solar Demos
It's quite subjective. I love solar power as much as I love pure heroine and melodrama. YOUR favourite is not necessarily MY favourite and vice versa. For instance, I'm a Lana stan, but NFR is not my favourite album of hers. It definitely comes after Ultraviolence ,Blue banisters and Honeymoon.

Pure heroine is right there with teen angst..
oh yeah... I got major "I'm not like other girls" vibes from some of the lyrics
An all-ballad album is risky but why is Taylor Swift's folklore and evermore worked perfectly but this one does not? Do you have any take on that?
i actually liked the album, it became my most played album in like two weeks since it came out. I would play it on the beach everyday and in nature, stoned, just like I think Lorde intended. Listening to this album in nature or near the sea on a beach while the sun hits you is a different experience, a better one. And makes you appreciate the album

BTW your Melodrama video is one of my favorites UA-cam videos of all time!
Melodrama, NFR and Reputation!
You’re entitled to your opinions! That’s the beauty of music, and no authentic fan should be making someone feel shame for not enjoying a particular song or album. It’s almost like if you don’t like every single song, you’re not a *real fan*
I didn’t connect with the music or album, at first.
Perfectly worded my opinion on Solar Power ..... It just gets better with every listen
Well said
I felt the same, though I still don't connect with some songs, like man with the axe and big star
Girl, it's okay if you don't like a song or an album. People need to understand that this is an opinion and it doesn't necessarily mean that the album IS actually bad or something and that goes the other way around
Lorde is one of my favourite songwriters and artists of all time, and I also felt no connection and that something was missing. I was so sad, because I fucking love her and was waiting for her album for years, but I didn't feel it and that's totally fine. I didn't question her abilities or even doubt them. And I'll be waiting for her next project patiently, and still get excited when I try to listen to it for the first time
Artists have the right to make their music and listeners have the right to give opinions as long as they're being respectful
I didn't feel it, but someone else does and good for them

But in this case the album is really bad. Matches people and critics opinion. But of course thats nothing wrong like something people say is bad

Its still just of shoddy quality. Feels like she needed like another year to fix things and scrap things
Now that's just trying to make an excuse for the bullshit of an album she gave. Like how American Horror Story fans make excuses for the declining quality of each new season. "New art" take.

I think its a summer album obviously, i think it would have been better if she spiced it and worked on it until the next summer so she would have added about 7~ish more months onto the production to make it better and have it released at a more relevant time

thank you for your real opinion, we love a honest queen!
wow you can really see the disappointment in her face after the last track...
Yeah It growsssss
It's a grower!!!
This happened to me as well! I literally was beyond disappointed with the first listen but slowly songs really started to gravitate towards!
Dominoes and California are so good 💗
Me too this album is ON repeat

The album is definitely a grower and it isn’t for screaming and crying like Melodrama. It’s the perfect accompaniment for a chill road trip.
It’s perfect to fall asleep too...

for me, i understand why a lot of lorde fans were underwhelmed with this album to begin with. it’s folk, stripped back, guitar driven and simple which we had never really seen from lorde up until this point, and seeing how complex and a rollercoaster of emotions melodrama was, solar power definitely comes across as boring to begin with. however, i absolutely love it! as a fan of folk music, i felt right at home with this album. whilst i definitely do feel that you have to really love folk music in order to truly appreciate the album, i still feel that it has been under appreciated by a lot of critics and fans.
they were only pretending to like it because literally who would like it except the fans 😭 there were like maximum of 2-3 bops. but at least, she is happier in this album.
I really loved it, reminded of Joni Mitchell when she was folk with the straight forward but impactful lyrics and stripped back production.
@@salvatore8075 not a lot of critics liked it tbh
Comparing it to melodrama is like comparing salt to a sugar. The two is entirely different. If you know, you know.
PH literally set the standard for simple and stripped back music tho… and did it much better
Exactly, this album was like a palate cleanser and also a good way for her to get rid of all the pressure of following up from Melodrama
I really really tried to like this album, i literally forced myself to like some songs, but as time went by, i listened to them less, and now i haven't listened to the album for a long time, and finally i understood it is a bread without salt.
i've only listened to solar power once when it first released 😭
I'm someone never crazy with Lorde's first 2 albums. I like her big hits but never connected with her albums as a whole. However, with this new sound, I'm OBSESSED! Absolutely love this unique album and I vibe hard with it. Always a very relaxing listening experience for me.
I'm literally the opposite LOVED her first two hated this one
Thank you
That’s my experience too!
You're liar. How can someone dislike Melodrama?
Same!!

@Luis Collado Keep it low key mate. Those kind of questions shouldn’t be asked
Lorde basically releases an album every four years. Her first “Pure Heroine” was released in 2013, her second “Melodrama” was released in 2017, and her third “Solar Power” was released in 2021. I wouldn’t be surprised if her fourth album is released in 2025.
She was supposed to release L3 way earlier
except solar power feels like she woke up once, looked at the calendar, said 'ah shit its gonna be 4 years in like 2 months' and wrote a bunch of songs in a week and released them without a second draft
I pray we don’t have to wait 4 years for the next after waiting 4 years for this travesty…

@@0012-h6l to mute!
YES!! It's my favorite Lorde album too because of this :)

Fallen Fruit is amazing, one of her best songs. That’s the only good one imo.
Yes star crossed please, ALBUM OF THE YEAR for me

a lot of people were saying that people only hate this cause it's happier unlike melodrama. I strongly disagree she could do happier and lovely songs in not so boring ways. The problem is that its not sad, but it's boringggg. Its like she didn't even tried for the instrumentation and the overall of the song, she just wants to say what she wanted to say in her diary.
Exactly. Lover is a good example however I will say there are some big skips on that album too lol
Also I would not say this album is “happy” maybe it is compared to her other projects but still
The problem is that you didn’t get it, and that’s fine. Like Ella said, she doesn’t make music for you, she does it for herself. I find that fuck you to all of the people kinda refreshing.

@@marcobc9461 It’s… not good. Whether you “get it” or not, it’s just blahhh. Needed more time in the studio and could’ve been truly great
I genuinely expected to dislike or even hate the album, but it's become one of my most absolute favorite releases this year.
My top three:
1. Secrets from a Girl (Who's Seen It All)
2. Mood Ring
3. Big Star
where's the path🥺👉👈
Yesss people were expecting way too much when Solar Power was rumoured to come out. She cannot make another Melodrama
Same here. People are being so rude to this album. I think it's ahead of his time.
I love reading that, same

solar power isnt a first listen kinda album, it grows on you when you dont expect, listening on shuffle helps alot because the tracklist seens dense one after another, also helen of troy from the deluxe version is one of her best songs from this project
The album is too bland, with beautiful parts sometimes, which is sad 😬
Also, your adlibs for solar power would have made it so much better 😭
Thats the major problem with this album all the beautiful parts aren't progressed its very short for an example on oceanic feeling at the end of the song jack harmonize with her for like 3 seconds 😑
There’s little parts I like in all the songs but overall they’re so boring
I literally at first heard this album im not kinda to it, at sec heard im in love w this album ❤
This album has de-grown (if that's a thing) on me. The first time I listened to it, I thought it was amazing, top of the year, but now the more I listen to it the least impressed I get. Fallen Fruit is still a bop, though
I think Fallen Fruit is the only good song in it lol

It’s totally fine if you don’t love the album, everyone has their own tastes when it comes to music. Ngl the first time I listened to SP it really threw me off because I was expecting a “Melodrama” type sound (as was everyone I’m pretty sure). But after listening to it more, you really appreciate it for what it is, regardless of whether or not it’s your favorite. So I’d say try not to compare the two albums while listening because it’ll ruin the experience.
