That’s surprising since they were quite big in the 1970s. But then again, l learned from bicyclelegs that Rush NEVER toured Australia! So weird how these things happen. Maybe it wasn’t cost effective for them to do so? Maybe they thought they weren’t big enough? Perhaps management was against it… who knows?! At least we have their outstanding output and are expecting (at least?) one more studio record from “Soft White Underbelly.” 😉
      Cheers!
PS: What tour/when did you see them? Do you recall the year? Just curious.

Hi Davey, thanks to your well done video. I mostly agree with you, all that new songs is a treasure for us fans, at least we have the great B. Ö. C. back !
I liked both songs, "So Supernatural" a bit more. It possess that nocturnal feel of "Spectres" album and the somewhat "gothic" guitar sound particularly impressed me. It's a 7/10 for me. As for the other one "Don't Come Running To Me" sounds more in terms with their "Revolution By Night" period, because of the modern technology as well as that "cheesy" voice. I am not so sure if it's Eric's who sings there and it sounds like one of the many AOR songs of 1983, so it ends rather undistinguished. Good, but a drop down in quality mainly because of the voice. 5/10 for that one...
My very fav was and always remains "Transmaniacon MC" though. That's explaining my ratings too. Thanks again !

Thanks for your positive feedback, Rocker! It’s greatly appreciated. “So Supernatural” is definitely the superior song of the two new songs released so far. As you so succinctly stated, it captures that whole BÖC vibe and feel from their prime period. “Don’t Come Running To Me” has a more commercial appeal, but it’s growing on me. I neglected to mention that l enjoyed Buck’s guitar solo in that song a lot as well.
“Transmaniacon MC” is an intriguing choice for your favorite Blue Öyster Cult song. It’s definitely a deep dive, although it’s track number one on their debut album from more than fifty years ago. I say that because it’s probably a song that many casual fans aren’t familiar with. It absolutely started their career off with a bang! I won’t reveal mine yet, since that will come in a future show. Thanks for your thoughts. Cheers!

As long as I hear "Don't come back..." and its cheesy lyrics I notice you are right on this one. It fits more as a "Flat Out" outtake (Buck's solo 1982 album). That work too, had many worthy songs albeit somewhat mellower compared with the Cult's ones. And he sung them in a similar manner. Ultimately, more Buck Dharma solo than Blue Öyster Cult this one.
As for "Transmaniacon MC" makes me feel proud whenever I hear it. I even downloaded the middle solo guitar as a ringtone on my mobile. Punkish, hard, short, instant, neat. Nothing more to ask for !

Yes! I would call the majestic Blue Öyster Cult “Prog adjacent.” They were all underrated musicians, had some semi-complex material, keyboards, touched many different styles of music and most of all had quite unique, unusual lyrical themes. Sandy Pearlman’s whole Imaginos concept is waaay out there. Add Richard Meltzer, Michael Moorcock, Patti Smith and the classic lineup to the lyrical stew and you have the perfect melange of zany, wacky, progressive-rock type lyrics. “Astronomy?” Prog. “The Alchemist?” Prog. “Don’t Fear the Reaper” with its different sections and themes? Prog. Love this group and they’re definitely a cut above your average rock band. Can’t wait to hear the whole new record!
Big fan of your channel, Scot. Thanks for stopping by. Cheers!
PS: Although l would consider “She’s as Beautiful as a Foot” more psych-rock, WHO ELSE but BÖC would have that song in their oeuvre?!
