LOL! The old man knows what he is talking about I tell ya! I have a tiny bit of video of his recently rebuilt 428FE that I may put up. Thanks for watching!
Appreciate the videos! They have all been informative and fun to watch! Have just stripped my aluminum heads and will want to strip the glazing off the lifter bores - this flex hone will most likely do the trick!
Thank you for the video. I use a flex hone on rebuilds with great success. It is important to note these come in specific sizes and should be matched to just over bore size. Thank you for your videos. I really have enjoyed them.
Thanks! Yes, the Flex Hone is a GREAT product and I highly recommend it to hone and clean up pretty much any bore size. You are correct with the specific sizes, their web sites has all the information that you need! And I am VERY happy to hear that you like the videos, I hope more people get some use out of them... We'll be adding more soon! Again, thank you!
This is what I used: amzn.to/3vU09sU Works great. Used it on a few engines now, it's the only way to do finishing work. Make sure you subscribe, the 408 is almost done, after 9 years! LOL! Going to try and fire it up for the first time April 2021!
Thank you. If you can believe it, we still need to finish this engine. I hope to get around to it this summer. My old man is building a 327 currently, but didn't take any video... Computers aren't his "thing" LOL!
Here is what RoG has to say: The bearing shell / housing might have some distortion. Also make sure that everything is clean and that there is no high spots. He said that you could / clean stuff up with the Flex Hone, BUT you'd want to be VERY careful and put lots of lube on it and CHECK it often so that it does not get too BIG (over size)! IF need be, give us some more information and maybe post a video for us to help you! Old RoG loves straight 8's! He says they're "longer than hell" LOL!
Not enough to hurt anything with the Flex Hone. I'm sure you're fine. If you're super worried about it, just take some measurements and see if you are still within specs.
@@BarnStangz I measured the compression ring gap at the top of the cylinder and it was at the upper limit. I was worried because I remember they were tighter on another block I measured, not right at the upper limit.
Hello. Could you please tell me if the Flexhone can be slightly oversized or does it have to be exactly the same size as the cylinder bore? I want to use a flex bore on an 85mm NIKASIL lined bore. Watching the Nikasil product video it suggests that a one inch bore needs a one inch Flexhone. And yet they also say that a 3 1/2 Flexhone has a range from 78mm to 90mm. What is your take on the matter? Thanks
You could get away with WD40, but I would try and make some honing oil... WD40 is too light and will not pick up the fine metal particles... Your best bet would be to thin normal engine oil with mineral spirits or Kerosene...
Hi mate I have a question for you I have a 351 Cleveland it's measuring 3 up the top five in the centre and about 4 or 3 down the bottom of the cylinders with a dial bore gauge can that be honed out and still use new rings and bearings to seal is it possible it's already 30 over
+BarnStangz .. no problem . I just praise and praise this wonderful work. I do not know English well. Also activate the bell and I like. Wait for more video
Hey thanks a lot friend! I know it's been a while since I've posted about this engine, but some new video's will be up this year. Thank you for subscribing!
Your break-in procedure is hilarious and sounds like fun. 30-90 mph pulls, 10 times, at max afterburner. :-) Great video, and thanks for the guidance!

Yes, this is a great video about Flex-Hone, with all details we need to know for a good job. Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching!

I remember using the Flex Hone in Mechanics shop in high school in the 70's. But I don't remember if it was called flex hone. Great job
Thank you so much for watching, it means a lot to my father and I!

He didn't mention it, but there was honing oil in the cylinder before the flex hone was used.
He said put hone oil in the cylinder before you start. He daid it was already in there. First step of being a good mechanic, PAY ATTENTION!
What size hone was this? Do you perhaps have a link to the one you bought?

can i use Wd-40 ? or any other alternative ? any other lub you can suggest ? thank you
WD-40 would work!
Yes yess Amen to that pops 🙌🏽🙌🏽👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙏🏼💯💯wish u where my grandpa
Another good video guys.
Glad you like the videos! We're trying to make more, it is just hard finding the time... Job, kids, wife, etc... Ugh...
Wow... awesome video.

do we need a flex plate to have the job done correctly ? or is it just too much ?
thank you for your time
Flex hone helps a lot! Flex plate when boring is a good idea too!
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
I overdidit by trying to get a perfect crosshatch. How much material do you think I removed?

@@edups3307 Okay, I understand. Yes, you for sure don't want to be at the upper limit of ring gap.
Nice . Which one you use . ,Grid 320 ?
Thanks for watching. I honestly forget the grit size, but I bet 320 or 400 is right around what we were using.

Needs to be a little on the large size. Thanks!
Hi what size of flex hone can I use for 86mm
Thanks for watching my video. 2-4 inch flex hone should work well. Google search brushresearch to find out more. They make the best products.
That’s better honing than robot 🤖 wow nice 45 degree lines
What grit you using?
I honestly don't remember, I'll have to check on the box... But it wasn't anything that would remove too much material.
From other videos I’m watching, it appears that 240 grit is used. But, I am still not certain and trying to find the answer also.
If I use 320 flex hone on a std bore can it affect my bore size or piston size ?
Not at all, as you'd only use it to freshen things up. A flex hone was never designed to "bore" an engine. So you will be fine. Thanks for watching!
Too low of a grit. Cast rings would use 400 grit, moly rings 600.
You could get away with WD40, but I would try and make some honing oil... WD40 is too light and will not pick up the fine metal particles... Your best bet would be to thin normal engine oil with mineral spirits or Kerosene...

Would probably be okay, .030 is getting thin, might want to look for a new block or if you need that block, get some sleeves put into it.
sure no problem , thank you
Thanks!
No Flex Plate for cleaning up the bore, only the flex hone... Since you're not removing that much metal... (sorry this is getting to you so late)
He LOVES Kenny Rogers...
"The better it pumps, the more you feel it in the seat of your pants" 🤔...😂
Gradation?
Say again?
Grit 120, 180, 240? for final result?, because i dont know which type of flex hone i must order
@@janblacha7667 I'd use the 240 for final.
@@BarnStangz before 240, additionally 180? Or only 240? Thanks for answer
Probably an owie... Rog likes to get carried away some times...
I was told by a machine shop buddy that roughly 16 strokes takes off 0.001 inch.
Sounds about right depending on the grit of the Flex Hone. Thank you for watching!
I am sorry that I'm getting to this comment late.... RoG is out to lunch right now, but I'll have an answer for you shortly! Thank you!
Damm,, he did it raw,, no lub !!!
Thanks for watching!
