I've got the VAC version Iris, so I'm sticking to that; I will be getting the glow in the dark one when it comes out though! And I heard someone say on Job's last livestream that TWSBI is also releasing an Iris version of the eco. So maybe I'll end up getting that, too. But I don't think the Diamond 580 is for me.
They’re pretty different, not sure how to compare them. My personal favorite of the two would be the TWSBI Diamond 580 at the moment, but I do like both.
Probably the ones with solid caps. The clear caps will end up with ink on them and if that bothers you, you’ll need to do more detail cleaning. (The white ones also stain easily.)
wowwww that nib 😍 i gasped out loud when you showed it. such a pretty design. thanks for sharing with us & for always giving such practical, cost-aware reviews!
I had the same reaction when I first saw the nib! It’s so pretty and it writes so nicely. Glad you enjoyed the review - thank you for leaving a comment! 💕
Greetings from Melbourne, Australia.Thank you for being such an enabler. I've just ordered one. I've loved TWSBI pens for a long time and have quite a collection. I'm sure you'll be adding more to yours.
What a gorgeous pen! I can almost feel how smoothly it writes, just by seeing the ink flow and I *love* that color of ink. While I have no plans to buy any pen over about $20 (and even that, not for a while) I'm finding I still really enjoy seeing and hearing your reviews on whatever pens you get. It's just neat to see all the purty pens out there!
I just found your wee channel on Friday Absolutely love it. I've just ordered my first bottle of Private Reserve in Arabian Rose. Hello from Scotland 🏴🏴🏴.
Beautiful pen and great review! I have the TWSBI Vac Iris and I while it’s a beautiful pen, I really struggle with the vacuum filling system. I love all my Diamond 580s, though. The fine nib is just perfect for me.
Thank you! I wasn’t sure whether the Vac700R was for me, so that made me even more motivated to buy the Diamond 580 version when they announced it. I like that they have both options in this color/finish now! I do love my fine nib TWSBI Eco-T.
I just bought a Diamond 580 in Smokey grey & rose gold. I was between the ECO and the Diamond when I bought it, but since I was able to up the budget a bit I ended up going with the Diamond 580. I already have two TWSBI Eco‘s and I know that I love their quality, so I thought an upgrade might be nice. The Diamond is so much more sleek and elegant in my opinion.
Happy I could help! I always find it difficult to decide on which pens to buy until I hear folks talking about them and demonstrating them in video form. Hope you're enjoying the pen.
I love that pen and ink combo!!! I’m def going to add the private reserve blue suede on my wishlist, I’m finding that I gravitate to beautifully-shading teal/turquoise colors! Beautiful pen!
Beautiful pen! I might have to get it at some point soon. I have the vac700 Iris and love it! The vac fillers were pretty intimidating when I got mine, but now they are almost magical.
I have 3 Eco-Ts and I adore them all. I've gotten to use a friend's Vac 700r Iris at pen club a couple of times and I LOVE it. It's definitely on my wishlist!
I have the Vac in Iris, and I also have the rainbow Conklin Duragraph! I bought it before I found out TWSBI would be offering the Iris in the Diamond 580. All of my other TWSBIs are Ecos, so not sure if I really need another TWSBI. I do like the Punch Pink and Prussian Blue 580s. I also have the Private Reserve Blue Suede ink--it is one of my favorites! I like using it in my silver or grey pens.
I ended up getting the Vac 700R Iris and I also have the All American in the Rainbow, holy wow it's a really heavy pen! I've found the coating seems to make the nibs bigger, I have broads in both of mine and my All American has a PVD coated nib and they are like double broads. Would definitely get mediums if I could have the time over. Lol. But omg the rainbow, it's so lovely. 😍
I have an Iris 700R already then they come out with another one. My struggle on not getting the Diamond is the cap. I don’t like that it is smokey on the Diamond 580. Why have such a beautiful nib and not show it all the time. We’ll see, Goulet has a big stock just waiting… Love your reviews. Keep ‘em coming👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Ooh, that’s a good point! I personally don’t mind that because I know it’s going to end up getting ink on that part and I don’t know how easy it is to clean it off. Thank you!!
I am very interested and considering adding this pen to my collection (fine or extra fine) so was excited to see and hear your review. I enjoy all your videos. It’s wonderful to hear someone so positive🌸 I’m concerned about the weight of the pen as I heard it was similar to the weight of a Pilot Metropolitan which is too heavy for me. The other question for me, being fairly new to all things fountain pen, do fountain pen companies ever release a pretty Christmas edition under $100? I hate to get this one if a Christmas option will be available this year. Any thoughts?
I have 3 Eco pens and love them. I have arthritis and find them to be very comfortable for long sessions of writing. Was wondering if the facets in the Diamond are still just as comfortable as the smooth barrel?
I already have two 700Rs (non Iris) so I guess I need to get the 580 in the Iris? Such a hard decision! I'll give the pipe a miss though. If I'm going to be taking the section off the use it anyway, that puts it into eyedropper territory, so it makes more sense to me to use a fountain pen (blunt) syringe.
I just love your videos. Always so thorough and great comparisons. My question to you since you love your white rose gold mini and I have been saving up for one, is… which is now your favorite between rainbow 580 and white rug mini?
I think I prefer the 580 to be honest, but I don’t dislike the mini! Kind of a surprise to me since I love mini fountain pens so much, but I really enjoy writing with the 580.
@@JournalSunshine I am wanting a pen to learn calligraphy and one that writes well with definite upstroke and downstroke difference. I love to write and want line differatiin but since new, don’t want to spend a lot this time but nice enough pen it will make a nice experience with a flex or 1.1 nib. Any suggestions please since I trust your opinions!😊
I don’t personally use fountain pens for up/downstroke variation - for that, I prefer felt tip brush pens like the tombow fudenosuke and the kuretake zig fudebiyori.
I got a gift certificate for Goulet Pen’s. I love my 3 Twsbi Eco pens. (EF, F, M). Was going to buy another Eco so I can have another fine nib which is my favorite. But now I can’t decide! I love Twsbi Eco for its smoothness, etc., but mainly because it is just so comfortable for long writing sessions. (Arthritis in hands)- Was wondering if they both feel equally good and comfortable in your hand while writing?
The part where I grip on both pens is below the barrel so I don’t really notice the difference in the texture unless I pay a ton of attention to it. They feel pretty similar to me overall when I’m writing! The Eco-T has a triangular grip which is a little different than the Eco and the 580.
Would you say that this is worth it to buy if I already have the TWSBI mini? I am really attracted to the rainbow color. But I feel like the 580 may be too big for me. If you could only have one (the pen itself and not considering the color), the 580 or the mini, which one would you keep and recommend to someone?
I already have the TWSBI mini and I thought it was worth it to buy (clearly, heh) for the same reason - I liked the rainbow finish. The 580 without the cap is smaller than the mini with its cap posted, so unless you’re using the mini without its cap, I feel like you’ll probably find the 580 comfortable. It’s up to you though! I don’t know which I’d choose, I like both. Depends what you like! I do love mini fountain pens though, I’d probably choose the mini.
Nice job on this review! I love the look of this pen, and I like my Diamond Mini. But $80 is a lot for basically a similar writing experience (I also own an ECO, but I like it less). That "medium" would be too wide for me, too.
I want to get into twsbi, but I don't want to do the vac filler, or piston filler route due to the mess. Do you like the version that uses a cartridge?
I don’t have any TWSBI pens that use cartridges (I showed all of mine in this video at the end) so I don’t have any helpful experiences to share with that. I do use cartridges with some of my other brand fountain pens and you’re right, they are less messy!
My 580, for whatever reason, has trouble with flow issues. In your video, your pen writes an extremely broad line with a medium nib. Mine with a medium nib writes almost like a fine line. Any suggestions?
@@JournalSunshine Yes, I think you may love a stub nib. I love medium nibs and the majority of my pens have medium, broad, and stub nibs. I have big handwriting.
@@BookishIntrovert63 I am wanting so much to get my first 1.1 stub nib to have line differentiation. What pen do you enjoy most using to do calligraphy? I don’t want over $100 as first stub nib experience but nice enough to enjoy the experience to want to keep doing. I too like smaller pens.

In your option what pen is better the TWSBI Iris Diamond 580 or the Benu Talisman?
They’re pretty different, not sure how to compare them. My personal favorite of the two would be the TWSBI Diamond 580 at the moment, but I do like both.
@@JournalSunshine which one do you think is lower maintenance
Probably the ones with solid caps. The clear caps will end up with ink on them and if that bothers you, you’ll need to do more detail cleaning. (The white ones also stain easily.)
I really appreciate the journal portion to see how it writes and looks on a full page. Thanks for the review, I’ve just ordered mine!!
I love ALL the TWSBI pens and I'm super happy I snagged this one as well. Such a beautiful and smooth writer for sure!
Yes!! Same. They’re honestly making me have a lower tolerance for other pens that don’t write as well. 😂

The nib and feed are super easy to remove on the eco, and are then way easier to clean.
