oohh I really want to know where that last hike you did at mount rainier that you didn't want to give out where that hidden gem is 😭😭 where and how long please
If you comeback trying to hike the Enchantments above Leavenworth Washington. You will need to enter in the lottery that happens in February to try and get a permit or hope you can get several permits they give away each day at the Leavenworth Ranger Station at 7:30 in the morning. The 22 mile hike through The Upper Core of the Enchantments is one of the best hikes in Washington State. I have hiked it many times and never get tired of it.
If you haven't seen, I did go back and I did dayhike Enchantments (because we were unsuccessful getting backpacking permits): ua-cam.com/video/CwSc9_n77sg/v-deo.html
Much appreciated! This was basically my first trip video. But all my trips are pretty crazy like this. Heading back to Washington on Wednesday and you can see the full rundown of our itinerary in my latest video here: ua-cam.com/video/lDtw5xl3pWA/v-deo.html
To bad you didn't head south to leave the area and stop at Lake Quinault. At the east end of the lake is the world's largest spruce tree, and you can basically drive right to it. I went the long way and it was only 3/10 mile. Can't believe you did that in 3 days. 1st time viewer. Well done.👍
Thanks man. Spent all day Saturday and Sunday knocking this out. Left Broadway after one drink so I could come home and keep plugging away! Not too bad for two day's work!
Also a shame you were fogged in at Kerry Park... it’s my favorite view in Seattle. Cool pictures at night too.. I wish I could take pics like that on my iPhone
Good choice in beer my husband says!!! Ok I'm going to be the one to ask it... respectfully; what do you do for a living? 😬 From Washington and can't wait to hike these! Ty for posting.
The video looked interesting and it sounds like you did a lot in a very short time. A couple suggestions though: If your going to include music in the video, please make sure it's at the same level as the rest of the video. When the music played it was a major assault on the ears since it was so much louder than the talking sessions. Additionally when you do a 360 view, point the camera at the vista you want us to see and not at you, which is in focus and the rest of the images are out of focus. If you want to show off a beautiful scene then make it the main focus and not just an out of focus backdrop of the speaker. You were at some amazing locations, and it looked like you took some amazing shots, but only showing small teaser pictures in the video didn't really let us see what you saw. Happy trails.
Thanks for the pointers, Mike. This was pretty much my first video and if you watch any of the more recent ones, you'll see my video shooting and editing evolving. Sound mixing can still be a challenge, same with focus when you're using a tiny built-in screen, but I certainly have been removing myself from shots when showing scenery. You'll also see I always show off photography full-screen now. I think this was actually the only video I used picture-in-picture for photos, which certainly didn't do them any justice, I agree. Thanks for watching! Check out some others. I'm actually working on a second Washington trip (Park Butte, Mt Baker, San Juan Island, Enchantments) video as we speak!
Have hiked extensively in all three parks since moving here from the east coast 31 years ago. I would not want to live anywhere else. I will admit I like North Cascades National Park and all the Wilderness and recreational areas through the this area since it doesn't get have the visitors of the other park and because I live closest to it.
Hoping to go to those 3 National Parks once the weather gets a bit warmer. Can't wait. Also, there's a temperate rainforest in the Southern Appalachians in the Eastern US, around Western North Carolina and below (so not the only one in the US).
Whatever camera you using........ keep using it it's crazy quality🌏👌👌🏞🏞🏞⛰🏔🏕I'm going in july you got me even more excited then i already was thanks man✊
Much appreciated! I'll be back at the end of June. Backpacking 2-3 nights in Mt Baker area and then kayaking with Orcas (hopefully they're out and playful). Can't wait to be back!
Much appreciated! I don't have a gimbal for the SLR (yet), but my old man just sent me his old DJI Osmo Mobile gimbal right before the trip so I used that with my iPhone 10S and that's how I shot pretty much all that smooth hiking video of the trails. Had a lot of fun with that thing!
That's hard to say, but I think it would have to be Rainier. I had a lot more time to explore in Rainier, but Olympic was unique and amazing (and massive), and I'll be spending more time exploring North Cascades next month. All great parks.
Three parks in three days doesn't do justice to any of them, speaking as a local resident for about 70 years. If you pick one for a several days visit, I recommend the Olympics, as there is a lot to do there which isn't viewed here. Mt. Rainier Park is a big draw, and visitor congestion is sometimes worse than the Grand Canyon, because GCNP has had to deal with the crowds for decades and has management under control, whereas this a relatively new problem for Mt Rainier, and they really haven't done much. Parking problems at key locations in the peak season makes you want to just leave. At Rainier, the Sunrise area on the northeast side is less used and give great views, particularly at ... sunrise. The Olympic NP is so big and spread out, and is so far off the freeways, that it just doesn't get the congestion.
I agree whole-heartedly. I often do trips like this to new areas, that way I can check out the areas and get a feel for the layout, and that way I'll have a better idea of where I want to spend more time the next trip(s) out. Still have many more PNW trips planned. The last trip was to Mt Baker area and Enchantments (those videos are uploaded), but I still have so much more on my PNW checklist to explore!
Oh wow, I didn't even know the Cascade Loop was a thing! So I did quite a bit of that, but I went from Washington Pass down past Leavenworth and all the way to Paradise at Mount Rainier. Then after Rainier I went straight to Hurricane Ridge at Olympic NP, and continued looping around the park, hitting Second Beach and Hoh Rainforest. Then back to Seattle. I'll be going back next month and backpacking in North Cascades and then I think we might go out to Leavenworth to dayhike the Enchantments.
I would probably recommend Cascades or Rainier. Cascades if you want to avoid the crowds more and camp on/near water. Lots on lakeside campgrounds in Cascades. Even some sites that you have to kayak/canoe/boat to which would be a pretty unique and special family camping trip!
yeah, I mean it got busy real quick in Rainier, as it was such a beautiful October day. I didn't really do any true camping so I'm not totally familiar with their campgrounds (I just slept in my rental car)
@@captainbananafartz I would have properly camped but with such a short time in all 3 parks, I would hike and explore all day, photograph sunset, then start driving to the next park after dark and then sleep in the car for like 4 hours. It was pretty wild!
@@OutdoorDetour That does sound wild! The video was super informative. I think I'd prefer to car "camp" like you did because I'll be crunched for time also. Did you just park in like, the national forest areas? Did rangers ever hassle you? Sorry for the bombardment of questions, just curious about that aspect because reservations and camping seem like a hassle so I'm curious how you got it done.
I absolutely do not fuck around when road tripping to new areas. It's all about seeing as much as humanly possible so that get a good idea of where I want to spend more time the next trip out. You wouldn't believe the crazy Alaska itinerary I put together for my week long trip out there last month haha.
I didn't have time for many hikes, unfortunately, as I was constantly moving around and exploring the different parks and taking photos. Those hikes in Rainier were all shorter and great. I'd like to hike up to some of the lookout towers next time for sure. It's black bear country so I feel comfortable enough without bear spray there, but if you're hiking alone and they concern you then definitely bring bear spray.
I actually am fortunate enough to live at the base of the park just out side of the sunrise entrance. Love it here
oohh I really want to know where that last hike you did at mount rainier that you didn't want to give out where that hidden gem is 😭😭 where and how long please
Great video man. Washington is such a beautiful state
Much appreciated! Can't wait to go back there next month and explore more by foot!

Love the video! The pictures you took were amazing, and the video is great quality. Going there for my summer vacation and I can't wait
Thanks so much! Hope you already took your trip and had an amazing time! So many amazing parks and other wilderness areas to choose from!
Great first vid SmellyRandy! Can't wait to catch up and talk in detail about it.
Thanks man. Spent all day Saturday and Sunday knocking this out. Left Broadway after one drink so I could come home and keep plugging away! Not too bad for two day's work!
I spent the summers of my youth in the North Cascades. I traveled up and down Ross Lake in a boat.
I'm jealous! I was looking into doing some camping via kayak in the park. One of these days I will! Need to explore the Cascades a LOT more!
Also a shame you were fogged in at Kerry Park... it’s my favorite view in Seattle. Cool pictures at night too.. I wish I could take pics like that on my iPhone
I’m probably not the first person to point this out, but there’s almost 47’000 sq miles of temperate rainforest in British Columbia.
Yeah, whatever I said about temperate rainforests in the video if most certainly wrong... I clearly don't know what the hell I'm talking about haha.
Smelly Randy 😂 great videos man. Keep it up. Cheers!

Crystal Mountain Ski Resort has a gondola that offers awesome views of the mountain at the top.

There is another temperate rain forest just south of HO, it is Quinalt and there are many more including some on the east coast.
Yeah, when I got back and started editing I realized I wasn't exactly correct. Thanks for the info!

Quinault
The drift wood would make a cool black and white

One correction, Oregon also has Temperate Rainforest.
Alaska’s Tongass National Forest is not only the USA’s largest national forest, but also Earth’s largest temperate rain forest.
