We sang this in early grade school in the 50s Detroit Michigan, so my memory of voices singing it were that of children. I thought of it all these years later and sought it out on UA-cam. Thank you for having it
I remember singing this song with my classmates in the public school auditorium when I was 12 years old in the 1970's. I remember some of the lyrics to this day and got the notion to google the ones I remembered like; Some folks get grey hair, some folks do, some folks do, brooding over their cares but that's not me or you... long live the merry merry heart that laughs by night and day like the queen of mirth no matter what some folks say. Thanks for posting this.
@@CharlesSzaboPhD Yes that would have been nice. Our school was small so all grades were there at the assembly with song books and everyone sang together. Maybe about 200 students.
@@CharlesSzaboPhD I remember we also sang a song called There's A Hole In The Bottom Of The Sea. I subbed your channel. Take care. Edit: I found that song on youtube ua-cam.com/video/UK6UNRnbfnw/v-deo.html
I WAS BROUGHT TO THIS SONG 'CAUSE IT PLAYED IN " CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF". BIG DADDY IS SITTING DOWN IN HIS CELLAR/BASEMENT & THIS IS PLAYING ON THE WIND-UP VICTROLA.
The North American Schubert. It is a pity that he didn't follow his own advice in his song, for he was of a melancholic propension ( like Hawthorne), turning to alcoholism. This daguerrotype reminds me of Poe's, the same spirit, the same sad look.
jorge lopez I am also a violinist but primarily a pianist/vocalist. I recorded all (almost 200) of Foster’s songs. I had my local librarian borrow about 10 books from interlibrary loan to get all the songs.
Charles Szabo Fantastic.Sounds great. Regrettably, Foster is one more victim of the PC dictatorship of the new Kommissars. I don't know how many people appreciate him in the states now, but I steem him highly. Reminds of the Biblical verse " nobody is prophet among his own".
First time I heard this song, though I am familiar with other S.F. songs. What a fine voice you have. You made my day.
FrothingFanboy you just made my day! I just posted 58 lesser known SF songs on my SZABO MUSIC channel. Thanks and please subscribe

We learnt this song at school in Hong Kong in the 1980s
Same here but in the 1970's in Canada. I've randomly remembered this song throughout the years.

jorge lopez yes- I totally agree with you and I like the comparison With Schubert. Are you a musician?
Yes. I play the violin . Coincidentally, I have played some of Foster's compositions. They are not easy to find.
