Turner had to know there was no romantic future with Stephanie, before he could see his real future was with Duela. Sadly, we'll probably never get to see that happen. Turner, did you need to read those diaries THAT badly?
I don't see why people complain about it, honestly. They loved each other, and it can be hard to know whether it's the kind of love that works for a romantic partnership. She was experimenting with Brody and others. She didn't want to try it with Turner, in spite of his making it clear he did want to give it a go (since it's very hard for him to trust anyone), because she was afraid of hurting him, and ruining the friendship that meant so much to her. In a state of delirium, he finally made the move--and accepted the result. If the chemistry isn't there, nothing can make that happen. He needed to know that before he could try with Duela--and find all the chemistry in the world.
And that's how it tends to work. We can't know what we want until we try different things, different people.
Weirdly, that's basically 100% of what The Summer I Turned Pretty is about, and that's a huge hit. Even though I honestly don't think the show is very good. But it's very very focused. On the experimentation. ;)
At least Duela wasn’t here to see this.
No, at least *Harper* wasn't there to see it. You saw how she reacted to seeing them just holding hands. Imagine how she'd react to this. That would've been worse.
One thing about Duela--she tends to approve on general principle of people making out with other people. I don't think she'd be jealous--at least not before she and Turner were a couple. The way I write her, she enjoys being jealous of Turner, but is slightly frustrated he's never even the least bit unfaithful. Except with her alternate personality, very briefly. To see how that worked out, Google "Not Offended, Duela"
@@jeannguyen3199 If Harper had witnessed the entire encounter, including Steph's explanation of why the kiss didn't thrill her, she would have figured out sooner she really did have a chance. Harper had a hard time figuring out platonic love, as it's called. Since her relationships had all been about sex, up to that point. Stephanie loved Turner more than anyone. Just not that way.
But being in love--that's a whole different dimension. Which I've visited. It's nice. Also crazy. I revisited it to write stories based on this show--most of all about Turner and Duela. Google "Not Offended, Duela"
So rhe kiss was real
But no feelings were shared in it
I can live with that
I felt the same thing my friend, already in the makeout between Turner and Duela there was so much desire and feeling there that all that was missing was fire and sparks haha
Me too
It was an experiment. That failed. In science and in love, that's the most common result by far.
My experiment was to write a novel-length continuation of a show I thought wasn't given a fair chance to find its feet. Google "Not Offended, Duela" to see the result. Not absolute failure, I hope.
I was thought they have more of a better relationship like dick and Donna
Same.
You mean cause steph didn’t abandon Turner
@@gabrielsouto5869 It's called 'friendship'. Frankly, they did not have great romantic chemistry. But they weren't supposed to. Because there is no way they didn't know thirteen eps ahead what they were going to do. They were headfaking us--a story where you know every twist and turn ahead of time isn't worth the time you spend perusing it. Honestly, this is why I never read Batman comics anymore, and boy did I not want to see that lousy Pattinson film. I can watch it for free now. Choose not to.
this show handled the relationships erraticly
More like viewers jumped to conclusions too quickly--the writers were playing with our expectations. Shouldn't Batman's adopted son end up with the blonde brainy girl he went to school with who worships him? Surely he won't end up with the Joker's Daughter, who mocks and derides him. And the blonde brain dating a hot hunky rich guy can't end up with a brunette brain who tests her.
Thing is, if you look closer at the scenes with Turner and Steph--she never challenges him, or he her. They're very supportive of each other--as friends tend to be. There's no spark at all. He's frustrated she's with Brody, but that's a headfake too--she's just trying to satisfy her parents' expectations. In fact, it takes some people longer to figure out they're gay.
There were no legit love triangles on the show--just deliberately created perceptions of them, to test us. Because the real theme of the show is how people get slotted early in life. This is what you're supposed to be. Cullen was supposed to be a girl. Cullen didn't want to be a girl. Turner, so many people watching this thought, was supposed to be the new Batman--or at least the new Robin. The new Robin was Carrie. Turner was something entirely new--a Bat-son who doesn't become Batman, because Bruce doesn't want his son going down that lonely dead-end path. (Also because CW can't afford the rights to Batman, and the costume is almost impossible to get right in live action).
Finding the path and the person that are right for you--that's what it's about.
Anyway, that's how I wrote it. I liked the story enough to continue it. Google "Not Offended, Duela"

There was, of course, another kiss later in the episode, that worked out much better.
To see the story continued--"Not Offended, Duela"
GCPD snooping around the Belfry was unexpected 😅
