    You have nicely explained these selectivity terms with simple examples. It's helpful. Thanks for the video.

    In case of stereospecific reaction if I used asymmetrical alkene(say 2 - pentene)and treated with OSO4 or m- cpba then whether it will be stereospecific or stereoselective?? as both face attack will equally probable in 2 - pentene
    ....

    • @Chemistrylover

      You will get 2 enantiomers 50-50 mixture.
      But it is stereo-specific

      @@Chemistrylover yeah I also seemed that A racemic mixture would formed...but is it always true or it depends on substrate , electronic factor , steric effect , chelation..???

      @@Chemistrylover if two enantiomer would formed then how the reaction will be stereospecific(as in stereospecific reaction only one product could expect to form)....why not stereoselective..???

    • @Chemistrylover
      @Chemistrylover  5 років тому

      If two faces are enantiotopic then you will always get recemic mixture

    • @Chemistrylover
      @Chemistrylover  5 років тому +1

      No stereospecific means you will get one particular outcome from one particular isomer, actually in absolute sence it's stereospecific but as you are getting recimic mixture you may not call it stereospecific.
      But it's not stereo selective, because stereoselective means preference for one particular pathway over another, i.e, you have tow choices and then you took the favourite pathway to give one major pdt, which is absolutely not the case here.
