I was there on the festival in 2019, one of the best nights of my life! Edinburgh is just amazing. After the torchlight procession the night before New Year's there was that concert in Holyrood Park and there was a band with a ginger lady as lead-singer. Does anyone know what band that was? I've been looking for them ever since! lol
Hogmanay was 12 days, the 12 days of Yule (what some people mistakenly call 12 days of Christmas) then after Christmas was adopted in Scotland (Christmas was banned for 400 years up until the 1950s), it was 7 days when I was a kid to make room for Christmas obviously. Now, people are claiming it is 3 days, I guess it is because the public holiday is 2 days (1st and 2nd of Jan) plus New year's Eve night. But traditionally Yule Tide AKA Hogmanay is 12 days and Historically the festival's and parties went on for the full 12 days.
Completely wrong. Of course it is the 12 days of Christmas. Yuletide is simply a colloquialism for the Christmas period as used by the Danish inhabitants of England in the 11th century. Adopted by the English in the 12th century it is first recorded in Scotland in the 13th century where it became the common term for Christmas. The earliest reference to Hogmanay in Scotland is in 1604 - a 1000 years after Christianity was introduced. And Hogmanay is the last day of the Old Year - not a 12 day period.
Hi, i will go to Edinburgh this new year’s eve. Do you know if there is public transportation on new year’s day to see around the city? I will stay in Haymarket and am worried i will spend time only in the hotel because public transports dont operate. Thank you.
You can go everywhere on foot or by taxi but you're right, there won't be proper public transport. Even if there is, it can happen that the last bus/train is cancelled for any reason. It happens all the time in this country.
This looks so amazing. But Edinburgh's streets cannot handle so many people. The local government should introduce a cap and make sure the event is safe for everyone. Such crowds in such a small area are never safe.
I'm not sure what you mean, the title says 2019? This was Hogmanay 2019 - 2020, as in celebrating the start of 2020. So it was posted in January 2020, a couple of weeks after the event, which was a few months before the situation in the UK started with any cases or lockdowns.
Im so happy I did tis incredible party just before we all went on the crazy lockdown and year of loneliness.
I can’t wait HOGMANAY 2022 !!!!!!!!🎉🎉
ich war dabei - eines der schönsten Silvester, die ich erleben durfte.
Ich habe mich in Schottland verliebt

Why is it marked 2020 when we were all on lockdown and all following the lockdown rules safetyness?
