    Iam not a musician but very much interested in listening to music.Today I enjoyed your explanation of gamakas, where to give ossilation and where not to give ossilation to the swaras. Except SA and PA all other swaras can be given a slight ossilation or andolanam or Gamakam. Thanks sir for enlighting so many confused music learners regarding the gamakas.

      It's not big gamakam sir. It's a small gamaka. If the gamaka sung for long time it doesn't mean it's a big gamaka. Ri has kampitha gamaka in thodi. It's a small gamaka. Small means the width of the gamaka is small. Width of the gamaka is not same as singing for long time.sorry for my late reply. I didn't notice your comment

  • @sujathathiagarajan2552
    @sujathathiagarajan2552 Рік тому

    Congratulations Sir on simplifying the gamakams concept ! These will be very useful to students .
    Towards the end of the video at 17 mins and later you have mentioned that all swarams except S and P will get a gamakam..please give some examples of audava ragams like Madhyamavathy where in the phrase rmpn,,,,n gets the small gamakam where M can be flat at times .
    Of course i agree M can get the bigger oscillation too and r2 is flat here . While R2 by itself for a longer duration can oscillate as a small gamakam. That you did mention ..in rmpns R 2 does not get the bigger oscillation ..so the first rule of YES for r2 d2 gamakam has to be read with the rider that r2 being close to S prakruthi note is not given the big oscillation ...this happens esp as G is absent in the ragam...i presume .
    So the first rule is true for mostly ragams which have all the notes ....right ? In the absence of G we have to pull in the rider that r2 is close to S so no big oscillation .
    Hope what I have said is right ...and goes by the limited knowledge i have acquired..
    Gamakams have been put in a nutshell in this episode and thankyou !

      @carnaticchaitanya5733  Рік тому +2

      RULE 1)R1 D1 NO
      R2 D2 YES
      RULE 2) WHEN TWO GAMAKA SWARAS ARE NEAR BY LOWER ONE BECOME PLAIN AND UPPER ONE GETS GAMAKAM
      EXAMPLE. IN R2 AND G1 COMBINATION BOTH ARE GAMAKA SWARAS .SO AS PER RULE R 2 BECOMES COMPLETELY PLAIN AND G1 GETS GAMAKA. SAME APPLIES FROM R2 AND M1 IN THE ABSENCE OF G LIKE MADHYAMAVATHI RAGA. R2 AND M1 BOTH ARE GAMAKA SWARAS SO IN THE PHRASES LIKE RMP, SRMP, RMPN AND EVEN IN AROHANA WE GIVE GAMAKA FOR M NOT BUT R. IN WE OBSERVE FURTHER, R2 AND M1 ARE NOT NEIGBOUR SWARAS LIKE R2 AND G1. THATS WHY R2 IS NOT COMPLETELY PLAIN HERE.
      IN SOME PHRASES,R ALSO GETS KAMPITHA GAMAKA WHICH IS MAIN RAGA CHAYA FOR MADHYAMAVATHI. THIS KAMPITHAM FOR R COMES ONLY WHEN WE NEED TO SUSTAIN AT R FOR LONG TIME.
      D2 N1 IS ALSO SAME AS R2 G1. WE CAN APPLY SAME GAMAKA RULE FOR D2 N1 COMBINATION .IF WE UNDERSTAND R2 D1 THEN SAME UNDERSTANDING FOR D2 N1.
      RULE 3) ONLY KAMPITHA GAMAKAS ARE POSSIBLE FOR THE NEIGHBOUR SWARAS OF PRAKUTHI SWARAS LIKE S AND P.
      NEIGHBOUR SWARAS OF S ARE N2 AND R1
      NEIGHBOUR SWARAS OF P ARE M2 AND D1.
      SO THESE FROM SWARAS N2 R1 M2 AND D1 GET ONLY KAMPITHA GAMAKAS.
      IN OUR ARGUEMNT U SAID R2 IS NEAR TO S THUS GETS KAMPITHA IS WRONG. BECAUSE R2 IS NOT NEIGHBOUR OF S. R1 IS NEIGHBOUR OF S.
      KAMPITHA GAMAKAS ARE POSSIBLE FOR ALLL THE SWARAS EXCEPT S AND P.
      ACCORDING TO THE RAGA AND ACCORDING TO THE SITUATION WE USE THESE KAMPITHA GAMAKAS FOR THOSE SWARASTHANAS. LIKE IM MADHYAMAVATHI WE GIVE LONG KAMPITHA GAMAKAM FOR R WHICH IS THE SAMPRADAYA OF MADHYAMAVATHI RAGA. EVERY RAGA HAS ITS OWN RULES TO SING THE GAMAKAS. WE MUST REMEMBER THOSE RULES AND EXPLORE THAT RAGAM.
      THANK U. THIS EXPLAINATION IS SUFFICEINT I THINK. IF U HAVE FURTHER DOUBTS,
      please msg me to my fb id daruri krishna chaitanya
