    1) The sling studs just uncrew and QDs just screw in!
    2) Air cylinder requires depinging.
    3) Not engraved, etched.
    4) Not walnut effect, it is bloody walnut!
    5) Adjust the bloody trigger properly, third screw virtually out, second screw back out by half a turn.
    6) Try getting a pellet that fits properly.
    7) The loading problem with the magazine is cured by common sense.
    8) 4.52mm for .177 and 5.52 for .22, that is what you need!
    9) Reach is narrower on the thumbhole stocks and they do not cost any more!
    10) Accuracy can be improved by setting up the magazines properly, the holes may need opening a bit.
    I had Galatians, they were very accurate! I had a carbine, took plenty of rabbits, pigeons and pheasants.
    It is a PCP, you do not need to treat it like a springer! It is because you have the trigger set up improperly!
    You have not set it up right that is all!

      Thanks for your comments. I knew this review would cause some issues with owners of the Galatian and is is good to have feedback to cover both sides of the story. I still maintain that the magazine loading is a pain and I am not the only person who finds this as there are plenty of people experiencing it. Once I worked it out and was careful with the loading as I showed in the video, the problems disappeared almost. But I personally found the rifle to be difficult to shoot consistently . I did start to get used to it, but compared to other rifles out there, I really struggled with it.

      @TheSecretAgentMole 7 років тому

      It is no different to the HW100 magazine and the HW101 magazine. Do you have the same problem with those magazines? Also it is not and I repeat not Walnut Effect, it is real Turkish Walnut, all Hatsan wooden stocked guns are Walnut! Tue you know, even the sub £100 ones!

      :) I guess you feel passionate about your Galatian and I am glad you like it. The mag system is not as good as it can be as the pellets need to be pushed into the mag to ensure they don't catch. This was the mistake I made until I worked out what has happening. I haven't played with a HW101, but my Cricket has a similar magazine and yoou can easily thumb flush the pellets home with no fear of them protruding or catching on cycle. In fact the cricket magazine has to be one of the most simplest and easiest I have ever used. As I said, I am not the only one who thinks the mag on the Galation has its problems, a quick google search will reveal many others having the issue.
      I did however get used to the magazine after a while and hence why i put a part about it in the video explaining exactly what the difficulties are and how to overcome them.
      At the end of the day, rifles are about personal feelings and choice as well as performance. This video is my view of the rifle and I was expecting some passionate replies from Galatian owners and I am glad you are posting your views.
      Thanks

      Yes, the problem is either down to tight double o rings on the Hatsan or the chambers on the magazine need expanding slightly, they can be a right swine and fractionally too small. A trick is to take the o rings off, put pellets in, lift magazine up, the pellets that fall out are in good chambers, the ones where they stick need deburring or expanding slightly with a file. Or you need looser o rings. But really it is not too much of a problem and I acknowledge you did present a workable solution (similar to what I used actually).
      The trigger set up is critical and you do need the third screw (the one closest to the butt) virtually all the way out to get the best feel. The Galatian is a good gun, but for the same money that they are now selling for, you can buy better. They are way overpriced. When I picked mine up a couple of years ago they were £350, at that price they were great guns, now at £450 and £550 they are running against some serious competition.
      For example the Gamo Coyote, a BSA Scorpion/Ultra XL derivative with a Gamo SAT trigger, Birmingham made, BSA barrelled, BSA self regulating valved, ok so only one magazine and better in synthetic if you have not got hands like a gorilla, adjustable cheekpad in synthetic too, cost, £400! If wooden stocked beech and not walnut too!
      So you can have a BSA for less than a Hatsan. The Gladius is being sold for about £600, for less than £100 more I can get a brand new, boxed, HW100 with full warranty. Who is going to buy a Hatsan at that sort of money?

    • @mikebbikesb1800
      @mikebbikesb1800 7 років тому +1

      Agreed about the price of the BSA and Gamo,but they are not Birmingham made, ( They are made in Spain at Gamo) and the amount of problems they have and the amount that go back because of issues brand new out of the box is staggering. Bad barrels, poor regulators etc.

    Sorry but I have to disagree with most of the criticisms raised against this gorgeous rifle. It is heavy, I will give you that but at the same time well balanced. I have the Galatian 1 which has the thumb-hole stock and both my partner and her son have no issues with being able to hold it so maybe the pistol grip design makes it more small hand friendly. Out in the field a set of shooting sticks take most of the weight anyway.
    The trigger has plenty of adjustment and so far everyone that has tried it has had no problems. The travel on first stage was spot on out of the box but I did adjust the poundage on the second stage (I have had a couple who said it was set a bit light for them, but they still seemed to hit everything in sight).
    The recoil issue, as mentioned by Mike is the shock wave travelling through the air bottle which is easily remedied with a 50p bottle brush. The air bottle is removable, even when full so if you want you can carry a second precharged one for a quick in the field top up. So far I have found the 80 shot capacity more than enough for hunting and if club shooting I just use the big bottle in the boot of the car.
    I have found it to be a little pellet fussy with JSB Exact Diablo being the favourite and Accupells a fairly close second so a different pellet could give you a better result.
    You said you had to hold it like a springer, this tends to be my natural hold anyway probably because I started on springers many years ago.
    As for loading the magazine it is so simple you can do it one handed which means you can still keep control of the rifle at the same time if necessary. Yes you do have to seat them properly but I find the tip of the finger is fine and don't deform the skirt at all. Perhaps my nails are shorter than yours.
    Whether it is suitable for the beginner probably depends on the beginner and how it is used. My partners son used it having never shot a rifle before. Using a sand bag fore rest he was hitting 20mm spinners out to 35 yards after about 6 shots and loved every minute of shooting it.
    This rifle will not suit everybody but from my experience over the last 10 months I have owned and shot it I have found it to be reliable, accurate, easy to use and super cool looking. It has a lot of features that put other more expensive gun makers to shame (why don't they all have anti double load?) and they aren't gimmicks.

    Hmm... where to start. First a deceleration of interest. This is my gun I have lent to Steve to review and I fully support what he is doing with these reviews, and will continue to do so, however I do think some of the issues that Steve has mentioned need addressing. In a Motorbike magazine, it would be called a 'second opinion'.
    Before I start, a back story to how I bought it. The first time I saw one, was hanging from a ceiling in a not over friendly RFD. I asked to see it, but was politely declined. I asked the price, and was curtly told £675.00. I left and decided to do some research.
    Giles on You Tube had just reviewed it with the normal glowing review, so I took the plunge and bought this one used via the post and paid £400.00 scoped and like new.
    When it arrived, the first thing I was surprised at was as Steve had pointed out, was the weight, it was so heavy when I was use to my S410. Giles had not mentioned this once and it will definitely be an issue for some.
    Now the bits I disagree with.
    The reach to the trigger.
    This is a big gun, but I have no issues whatsoever. If you have smaller hands, it is going to be a bit of a stretch, but for me, it fits perfectly and feels very natural.
    The trigger itself.
    Again, I would disagree 100%. I find it smooth . It has a Hatsan Quatro trigger
    The 'recoil'/ feels like a springer.
    The other thing I found when I first bought it was how loud the action is when firing, especially when it is next to your ear. I had someone else shot it, and you could not hear it. The recoil feel is actually the pressure wave going down cylinder, and not the mechanical issue you have with a springer.This is addressed very simply, by fitting a bottle brush in the cylinder as a 'de pinger'.
    ( i thought I had given Steve the cylinder with it in)
    The Magazine.
    Again, 100% disagree. I find it one of the easiest to load, and it can be done one handed, unlike the majority of other makes. I lay it down on a flat surface, pick a pellet from the tin and push it in with the tip of my finger. I have just done it now. one finger typing this, and the other loading a mag. no pellet head or skirt damage whatsoever.
    Accuracy.
    Again, I find it as good as anything else I have, and have not had the flyers that Steve has shown, so I am a bit perplexed with that.
    The noise.
    As Steve has pointed out, this is a carbine barrel with a shroud fitted. The only other guns I have with a shroud are a S510 and a MFR. It is no louder than the S510, but definetely louder than the MFR which was renown for being super quite anyway.
    At the end of the day, if we all liked the same thing, we would all dress the same, have the same car, and the same gun etc.
    Do I like my Gallation? yes.
    How much? I bought another two of them!
    Another Gallation 2 with the rifle barrel and open sights, and a Gallation 1 carbine with the thumbhole stock, all in .22 ( and one of them does have a bipod fitted)
    Is it a beginners gun? possibly not., especially the weigh of it.A S410 /R10 etc will be easier to get up to speed with, but for the price and the features and accessories, you would be hard pressed to find another gun. If this was English made, it would be £1000+ Again as Steve has pointed out, there is a lot of snobery with Hatsan and they dont get the credit in the airgun world that they enjoy in the shotgun world where they do very well.
    You can buy brand new Gallation 3 and 4 ( Black tactical stock ) for less than £450.00 at some RFD. That is a lot of gun for the money as long as you dont mind the weight ( and have big hands!)
    And no, mine are not fore sale!!!

      Mike : Firstly many many thanks for the loan of the rifle, without you helping me out, the channel would not be as successful as it is.
      I am so glad you have decided to post your thoughts, as always there are 2 sides to a story and it is great you have posted a counter review on some of the points I mentioned about the rifle.
      Hopefully this review and your comments will help those that are thinking about this rifle decide whether to buy one instead of relying on the other channels that can be a "bit tame" in their review.
      Many thanks mate.

      Thanks Mike, you have made my mind up, I appreciate there may be an audience for your videos Steve, (beginners maybe), but I do find them rather tedious, when you clearly are very green to air rifles yourself, I certainly wouldn't buy or decide not to buy based on a review of yours. No offence.

    • @airgunology
      @airgunology  7 років тому +2

      Robert Bond I am green and my reviews may not suit everyone that is for sure. as with all reviews, the more variation you see the better the opinion you can personally make as to whether a product is right for you. what I do try and do is give some facts on what I find good and bad which a lot of other reviewers will not do due to skin in the game. thanks for your comments though and for Mike chipping in with extra info.

      I have had the identical rifle for 2 years and have not experienced any of the difficulties Steve speaks of. I would give it 9.9 out of 10 only because the weight does take getting used to. Now it is no problem to shoot offhand. It's beautifully balanced. The Quattro trigger is easily adjusted and mine has a 2-1/4 lb 2nd stage. Best trigger I have ever used. And by the way, the stock is genuine Turkish walnut and gets ooohs and aaahs whenever it comes out of the case. I did put a depinger in both of the air cylinders I have for it, but other than that it all original and very good quality. I don't know what is up with the situation Steve has run into, it is NOT typical of the Galatian carbine.

    I shoot 10 rounds in the same hole at 15 meters. H&N Barracuda match 21.14 grains. First time I shot it. And that's with a red dot, no scope. Dude, you really need to watch the video Airgun Accuracy did and set yourself up for success. That's an amazing rifle. But I'm American and I shoot real guns too so recoil and mechanical movement is all part of the mix and hold. Hold tighter. It's practice practice practice to get good.
    Keep shooting though. It's a journey my friend:)

    • @airgunology
      @airgunology  6 років тому

      You miss the point. Almost all over PCP's have zero recoil. I and many others have found the Galation very unreliable and inaccurate compared to other air rifles such as daystates, FX's and Air Arms. If you have one and it works for you, awesome, you got lucky and I am pleased for you. My experience and others has not been as great.

    • @patrickgermond2750
      @patrickgermond2750 6 років тому

      Steve Allan Thank you. And thank you for your hard work. You put some time in to making this video. And....after thinking it over, you have some very good points. The overall take away for me is it shouldn't very so much between shooters either. And as a novice to pcp(gun and novice aren't usually used in the same sentence with me) I agree with you. If a pcp shouldn't recoil or move with the trigger, then it shouldn't. I have a .17hmr Hennry that's cost me a fortune, and the hammer slamming down makes it impossible for me to take advantage of the .17hmr's accuracy. Others may be fine with it. But I'm not and it's a flaw that shouldn't be there. So I actually understand your frustration very much. I've been there.
      So I agree with your point on movement upon trigger pull. It may not be for everyone.
      Take care and keep em in the 10 ring:)

    Steve great review, if the weathers nice outside don't take notice of the few, the sound in your garden was OK, this gun needs going to a health club to shed a few pounds and a gunsmith to have work done. Any one watching take a tip from an old campaigner, STICK WITH AIR ARMS, either s410 or S510!!!!!!! They are light, reliable and do exactly what it says on the tin, made in Britain, for the brits and they are bloody good.

    all and most rifles have there goods and bads,and for me with the price and what you get with this series of rifles can only be a positive for this rifle ,there are lots of no,s and bad points on lots of other rifles with a lot higher price point ,I think this rifle is a positive the only thing I think is a negative is the weight ,and maybe the ping when you fire it ,but an old falcon fn19 I had had that ping ,and I never thought anything of it,overall I think if you get a bipod for this rifle you cannot go wrong with its price point ,if you want a rifle that's almost perfect you got to spend 3 times as much on a fx impact,but depends on your purse strings

    Let me preface this by saying I have several high end PCPs including a RAW HM1000x and Cricket Hunting rifle and I am a decent shooter. I don't know if you got a bad gun or not but I have two Galatians in 22 and 25 cal and can say without a doubt that they are every bit as accurate as my high end guns. In fact the best 50 yard 10 group I ever shot was with my 22 cal Galatian. It seems strange that the only bad reviews I have ever seen of the Galatian was from 2 UK guys you and that idiot at (Rack n Load). Maybe they are not meant to be de-balled and reduced to sub 12 FPE. I will say I trust Giles' reviews a LOT more than yours and Rack n Load and he seemed to like the Galatian.

    • @airgunology
      @airgunology  7 років тому

      Thank you for your honest comments. As with all reviews, check out others and form a balanced opinion. I too like Giles review, but no where did he mention the elephant in the room, the weight of it. Perhaps being a big chap it didn't bother him.

    • @blackdiesel
      @blackdiesel 7 років тому

      Weight don't bother me either. I shoot off a tripod, lean against a tree, or use a position where I can hold the gun without too much straining- just like shooting my Theoben Rapid or RAW PCPs. Baxter Walton reviewed a 25 cal Galatian and he talked about features, shot a 50 yard group and most importantly, took it out hunting/pesting which is what the gun is meant to do. He hit varmints from 50 yards to 75 yards with head shots. I didn't think it was polite to link his review to yours but it's out there.

      Hi Steve I appreciate your honest review. However I have had some experience with the Galatian as well. I have fortunately not experienced any such issues. I would rate it at 4/5**** . It's a package you really can't resist. And it's got the power to really give a wallop ! And speaking about accuracy..... I can vouch for it being deadly accurate out to ranges near 100 yards! FYI I have used the .25 Cal with Barracuda Hunter Extreme and man am I impressed! Honestly the only drawback being the magazine not being able to hold pellets with heavier grainage. I would rate the Sumatra 2500 better on this aspect. However I suggest you do a comparative review between the Galatian and the Sumatra 2500 both in .25cal!

    brutally honest , and by far your best reveiw too date , actually ive watched it twice . anyway , where too start? Firstly I cant see why anyone would buy this rifle too use for ANY specific use , I reckon it wouldnt cut the mustard on an HFT course even in the hands of a seasoned pro , as for hunting , the weight , length & lack of accuracy would make it a very poor choice .. looks wise YES its " ok " ( beauty is in the eye of the beholder ) but a jamming magazine , and a difficult one too load too boot , well it's a complete no - no I my opinion .. if I were looking for a PCP rifle in the £ 550 - £650 bracket , the Gamo Phox OR Walther R8 would be there or there abouts at the top of my list .. suoerbly enjoyable vid though .. 10/10

    I have a Hatsan AT44-10 .177, my first PCP. I like it but I'm not going to slavishly buy another Hatsan because of that. In fact I have a space on my FAC which will almost certainly NOT be filled with a Hatsan, they're just too bloody heavy! Your review pretty much reinforced my decision.
    PS. What's the difference between a price and a price point?

    • @airgunology
      @airgunology  7 років тому

      I agree, most of the other reviewers seen to neglect the obvious such as weight and hence why I am different and tell the truth of what is and what is not.
      A price point is what you want to spend, a price is what you are willing to pay if it is good and the Hatsans certainly IMHO do not fall into the later category.

    • @paulcatanach8428
      @paulcatanach8428 7 років тому

      Price and a price point are exactly the same thing. The latter is just sales gibberish dreamed up by Audi drivers flogging photocopier paper to make themselves sound intelligent. ;-)
      A price point can't be what I'm prepared to pay as the sellers can't read my mind.

    Great video, Steve. Hatsans = heavy, big, unreliable. It amazes me that there are people even buying this particular model. Why would anyone want to buy an air rifle which is as big and as heavy as a powder burner, and so loud? What are its advantages to a firearm?? Hatsan is also famous for its low build quality. Experienced air gunners know that a Hatsan is only to be bought if you'd like to have something cheap to tune and meddle with. In almost all of the cases, a new Hatsan needs some work to remedy the production line defects and get it working properly.

    indestractably . over engineered . bad twang . large power curve. , super accurate . awesome trigger . alwost no first stage with a poitive and crisp second stage . mine is a carbine 2 and engaved . the cylinder is removable and comes with a fitting to release the pressure for service . . honestly the wieght and my poor health are why i do not shoot it so much . well that and my ratworks regal and steyer hunting. it can be double loaded if it isnt fully cocked despite the anti cock mech

      it was designed to run as a 45 ftlb power gun . which is why the power curve is so great but u still get 65 full power shots on the the curve in .22 . it is a great static ratter .with a Wierach like 14 shots . . Ensure you press the pellets well home but avoid your finger nail and it will never jam and be super accurate . a pellet cn never fall back once pushed well in (chewing the skirt ;-) . All pcp hatsans are the same . but makes them easier to load in gloves or dark with one hand . And thnks for the reply . Hope channel keeps growing m8 cos u got some great content

    Very poor review. If you took the time to adjust the trigger and use a pellet it likes it is a very accurate PCP, mine puts pellet on pellet at 25yds. The magazine issue is a non issue, simply apply common sense. Moral of the story is you shouldn't review anything if you don't know the subject and aren't prepared to set it up.

    • @airgunology
      @airgunology  5 років тому

      I tried everything you suggested and could not get the darn thing to play nicely. You are the 1st to say this and I guess you spent your hard earned money on one and want to justify the purchase which is fine. But the rifle I had, had all of these problems as stock and I stick by my comments as the other comments prove.

    • @foorcscale
      @foorcscale 5 років тому +1

      @@airgunology Looking at the comments, even the guy who lent you the gun didn't agree with your assessment. So you can't even say it was a faulty example, you just didn't put the effort in as you weren't keeping it and therefore had no interest in it. I don't need to justify my purchase as the shooting accuracy I get from it, and the fact that I had to do nothing out of the ordinary to it does that by itself. 3000 shots through it now and not a problem with it. I haven't even had to adjust the scope zero. It's just a good, consistent and reliable air rifle.
