Where to eat in Rarotonga, Cook Islands

- This is the final video in our 3-part Rarotonga vlog series! It's safe to say that food in Rarotonga really exceeded our expectations. The fish was so fresh it felt like it was caught only a few hours before it reached our plates. Check out this episode to find out all the great local spots that we managed to hit up during our time in the Cook Islands.
We're sure there were a bunch of other fantastic spots that we missed out on, but guess that means we'll just need to make another trip back to Raro one day :) If you're from Rarotonga or you've been there before, let us know where else we should try next time we visit the Cook Islands.
Here's a list of all the places we managed to cover in this Rarotonga food vlog though:
1. Charlies Cafe and Beach Hire - Awesome lil spot. You can either get a mean feed or rent a kayak and snorkel to venture out into the beach which is right next door. Their sandwiches are huge!
Address: Ara Tapu, Takitumu District, Cook Islands
Hours: Monday - Saturday 11am-9pm
2. Trader Jacks - Just the thought of this place still brings smiles to our faces. The crayfish tail we had was so good we came here a second time and ordered the same dish. Peter also got the ika mata here (not shown in the video unfortunately) but believe us, it was amazing!

Hours: Monday - Thursday 11am - 11pm
Friday 11am-3am
Saturday 11am-12am
3. The Waterline Restaurant and Beach Bar - One of the most beautifully located restaurants we went to during our stay in Rarotonga. Right next to the beach and in a charming wooden beach hutt. Also houses the best pina colada Peter has ever had.

Lunch - Tuesday - Friday 11:30am - 2pm
Dinner - Tuesday - Sunday from 6pm till late
4. The Mooring Fish Cafe - We heard from our Cook Island friends that this is where locals from Rarotonga go to get a great lunch.
Address: Avana Fishing Club near Ngatangiia District, Cook Islands
Hours: Monday - Saturday 10:30am-3:30pm
5. Bite Time Cafe - This place surprised us with the quality of the ika mata and tuna. We ended up eating here after the Raemaru trek which you can see the whole video in: • Top 5 Things to do in ...

The food in rarotonga definitely exceeded expectations. The seafood was so just so fresh wherever we went. We kept overhearing people say things like it's from the catch this morning or the fish just got delivered last night. It makes so much difference when the seafood is straight from ocean to tummy 😂🐟👍 enjoy your next visit ❤😁

Never had an ika Mata as good as I've had it in rarotonga. Puts me in a happy place. It was basically a pina colada and Ika Mata diet 😂 opposite Charlie's would have been a great location good food and beach right across the road. Thanks for joining us through our raro series leah ❤😊

We went to the Waterline, the Mooring, Charlie's and Bite time. All were just as you said. Lots of good places to eat on Raro. The people there are sooo friendly. Can't wait to get back again. Hopefully sooner than later.

Personally I think this is better than Mark Wiens and Food Rangers food review, I've been hoping they would have come to the Cook islands, but great that you guys have expose the delicious food and experience of Rarotonga. Well done Peter and Yen, oh yeah.. by the way I must say Yen is naturally gorgeous especially when she wears the Pareu 😀

@@PeterandYen I'm not sure but I think Aitutaki Island is on your itinerary? If so that is where my Dad's family is from and family members own a few hotels there, Popoara Ocean Breeze Villa and Aitutaki Village. I would like too also suggest that if you are able? to try and visit One Foot Island and Maungapu as it overlooks the vista of Aitutaki.
I also recommend trying out the buffet at Cocoputt in Rarotonga as I have a cousin who's name is Tokz and he is the head Chef and owner of the venue.
I hope the weather comes out for you guys for your remaining stay in the Cooks.

You guys know how much we love the tips in the middle of the video. The most curious one was about the land... those kinda things always catch our attention. There is an island here in the US that has a similar rule... ok back to the food
Bali is the same too, many of the smaller island nations do this to prevent the whole island being bought over by investors. I think it's a really smart move and keeps the very limited land in the hands of the people. Facts sections are fun for us to put together too 😁👍

If you have the chance fly over to Aitutaki 45mins flight.. U will be blown away with the tropical waters there amazing views n local food. Is crazy... Specially the raw fish.. Dude I think we've got similar tastes in life hahaha. Waterline was one of my favorite spots cause of the general vibe and well trader Jack's we ended up going twice cause that cray tale was cray! Mate lil islands are my favorite places to explore especially when the food is 🔥😁👍

Ika Mata is our favorite! It tastes even better than it looks. And somehow the yellow fin tuna in rarotonga just taste fresher 🤤 could do with a few bowls of that right now 😂

That's right.. Weather is no problem when you're on a holiday. That fish sandwich is massive! That mahi mahi from that second place though. That's my favorite (Maria) fish! All of these food spots are great hang out places. We would be happy with those drinks and live music. That lemon cake! Yum!
O that's good taste in fish we don't get them too often in New Zealand but when in the islands it's definitely mahi mahi time. They are quite a magnificent fish. And yes that sandwich is a beast hahaha 😁
Just got back from Raro. We normally avoid the resorts, but found the Crown Beach resort Oasis restaurant to be one of our favorite stops. Their Rib Eye steak on Fridays was the best steak I’ve ever had. Everything they serve is delicious. Affordable too. Great video!

I recommend the next time you guys come to Rarotonga cook Island to go to Tumutoa Tours we will show you our traditional way of our ancestors and their life style
that fish sandwich is massive! looks like a mexican torta! ..they sure not stingy with the fish tacos! thats alot of meat!!
Hahaha yeah the portions on the island were very generous. I rarely get full off a sandwich but that fish sandwich did the trick. It was more fish than taco 😂😂😂 might as well called it a market fish dish 😁 no complaints from me!

It's very good and tasty. I've eaten there a couple of times and I very much enjoyed their varied, interesting meals.

Nice facts - didn’t know anything about the Cook Islands before your series. Like how they keep it local and it seems to still retain it’s charm
One thing that really impressed us was that the the people really make a huge effort to keep the island as clean as possible. The only time I saw some plastic trash was when someone was picking it up to recycle it. It is an awesome example for other island nations.

Can't beat a nice seafront restaurant and a good pina colada 👌... That's a winner for us every time. Lemon cake and ice cream is making Corinne salivate!!! Woohoo 😁❄ o my gosh that ending is so random it's cause we were sitting by the beach drinking pina colada all day and we were like hey we needa do an outro 😂 that's why we were so munter. Great day though and ended up swimming in the lagoon at night 😊✌def should check out waterline the food was so good there... next time!

Local here 🙋🏻♀️ The Palace is honestly the best place to get a burger (You have to try the "wet" burgers, just trust me on this). Ariki cafe on the back road in Avarua is also a must (have to book a table in advance). And if youre looking for decent coffee head to the waffle shack. 👍🏻

Hahaha yeah our tip for the weather was arrive in April may, September and October. We arrived in late March and sure enough it was raining on all the March days and cleared up as soon as it was April 😂

We haven't tried waterline yet and Charlie's but we are staying a stones throw away from Charlie's next trip in sep so will be going there a lot for sure. Cheers😃
