After the hiatus of fifth gear I thought the recent car reviewers are going to be the one we left to watch(after old TG), but this is a great comeback for them
I've had mine, a 17 model, for 3 years now and it's brilliant. I'm just waiting for the salesman to call me back and get it changed for the latest model.
I'm about to pick up a 3 year old 9000 mile ST2 with the performance pack, of course, tomorrow. I live on the Isle of Man and it'll be perfect for these roads, I can't wait. * *rubbing hands together* *
Nice little car and it is on my list for consideration as my next car but two things bother me. The Infotainment screen looks like a tacky add-on and I would worry about rust long term given Ford's less than great reputation in that department.
You guys aren't even getting the new Fiesta at all. In Europe, the normal MK8 as well as the ST version is available as a 3 and 5 door. (the hatch is technically a door)

Agreed. Fifth Gear has never been good at describing what cars are really like to drive despite a good portion of their audience watching for that very reason.

Obviously I'm not a motor journalist but I do enjoy my cars. Having daily driven both for 2+ years, I would say that as only fun goes they are pretty even with the new one just edging it BUT as cars overall like the interior, creature comforts like auto headlights, android auto/carplay, riding comfort when just driving from A to B, the new one is a LOT better.
@@alexm6340 interesting, I have had the ST180 for a year now, I had the ST150 before that. I've heard the opposite, car journalists have generally said the ST180 has the edge in the driving experience, still. Being a bit more mad, stating the MK8 has been watered down, but only slightly. Now my love for Ford has turned to hate since they are bending at the knees over this green propaganda bullshit. But atleast Hyundai came out of nowhere with the BMW engineer that completely revitalised the company with epic performance cars. This BMW engineer is still fighting to keep internal combustion performance cars alive so they'll have my money next if he wins the good fight. ps. Too be honest I'll get an 86 but if I was going to get a hot hatch...
Can you do a comparison of the Fiesta ST against the BRZ/ GR86? Both affordable by proper fun cars, with very different approaches! I’m interested to see your thought because I’d love to buy the new Fiesta ST, but am currently weighting up against the GR86!
@@alexecristian937 In this regard both of them are impressively fun cars to drive, one has the advantage of the high torque and "punch" of the turbo and one has the advantage of the higher available rpms due to its naturally aspirated engine... For daily use I prefer the ST as this is more practical than the GR86, even though the latter can be used as a daily without major issues. But of course, if I had to only choose one, I would personally go with the GR86 as it is just a nicer and special place to be sitting in, and the rear wheel drive capabilities is something that retains the concept of a true sports car... I have the fortune to own both and I enjoy every single moment in them, but for a daily driving perspective, the ST is a bit more practical, you can carry 3 more people, and thanks to its turbo you can easily overtake without the need to downshift thanks to its impressive torque... Regarding the ride quality in italian roads, the ST is just too stiff to have a comfortable ride in, you feel every little bump. Regarding noise, the ST is more comfortable at highway speeds. The opposite is true for the GR86, ride quality is a little better due to the slightly softer setup, but the road noise at highway speeds is almost unbearable...Just my point of view.
The car I’m looking at ford fiesta st-2 2018. has engine performance level high launch control does that mean it has the performance pack and the quaife diff?. Unsure about the amber ST light that came up next to the 1k rev as of yet thanks people
@@mememachine5244 It does not, the official time fors the MK8 Fiesta ST is 6.5sec. the MK3 Focus RS does it in 4.7 on launch control. the new MK4 Focus ST will have a 2.3L and 280bhp clocking at 5.7 sec on 0-60. though 267bhp on that 3 cyl. better be having supporting mods. Best mod to for a 0-60 time on a manual gearbox is a short shifter.
If this was TG they would have rigged a race against an F40 where the Fiesta won, or have some cabin trim fall out when Clarkson pulled on it, or have it drive thru a wall or something.

I’ve come from a mountuned Mp215 mk7 to a Mk8 and the new model is as quick in stock as the MP215, has more low down torque and sounds fantastic when revved hard !
Yes, it could have, 3rd maxes out at around 55, so requires another gear change. It is as if they did it on purpose to make the new focus ST not seem to drool. And to improve mid speed performance for B roads.

@@FlorinC1984 aren't they really the same thing? I'm not a vauxhall/opel fan, but the vxr is one of the cheapest hot hatches that offers (well back in the day) serious horsepower for the money. I would take a ford or a Volkswagen every time though even if they are more expensive
All ok when new but....that ‘dinky’ 3 pot turbo ecoboom engine that goes pop at 17k and scrapped by 40k, rather have a larger torque filled engine that won’t go bang!

The only ones I've read about having engine troubles are people who overtune and mod the car for days and then take it to the track. If there was some crazy epidemic of blown fiesta ST engines at 50k miles the used value would have plummeted by now.

That is definitely THE most boring looking hot hatch I've ever seen. It looks like a bottom of the range 1 litre. Ford Focus STs and RSs have looked great for years now, but the Fiesta hasnt looked good since the XR2i days. Even the last gen ST looked better than this, and that was hardly good looking.
I can sort of agree with you, but when carmakers do something extravagant (take the Honda Civic Type R for example) everybody calls it ugly. Cars are in a design crisis now, and we have two options; either take a look at the past (XR2i) or come up with a new style trend.

But the Golf GTI is classily understated but still looks mean, the Corsa looks great (even the base models look hot) Astra looks nice, the Clio always looks sweet etc. It just seems like Ford hasnt cared about the Fiestas looks for a decade or more, they handle great are decent cars, but styling wise are naff.

I think personally Ford have gone from look at ME to an it's just another fiesta behind me, as an owner of the mk8 jeez when you take it on a twisty bit of road does it come alive, awesome.
