- Welcome back to another challenge video! This was the ultimate test as we gave ourselves only $25 for rod, reel, lures and line, the ultimate goal was to land a nice fish on the extremely cheap gear!

that would be way to easy considering hes from vic and bcfs are everywhere and there bargain bins always come in clutch. i got so many packets of godly plastics and glide baits just random little lures from those things that it wouldn’t realy be a challenge for him to be honest

Ultimate challenge - make your own gear, rod, line, hook, collect your bait and catch a decent fish. All has to be done by hand. Primitive survival fishing. It would probably take you a bit too long to do though.... maybe a little bit here and there over time?
Bought this rod this arvo. Tested it out with the green out in a little swampy creek and within 10 seconds caught myself a bass bigger than anything in that video. First time fishing since I was young and had no clue what I was doing, but it worked.
I don't even fish but it still fun to watch at 2am
Bet there has been a sesh or two in that commo.
That was a mad as challange Nev, so close the first time round, I love the way you sorted it all out for under 30 and that rod under 25.

From my experience, almost ALWAYS, the cheap gear catches the most fish. All my camping fishing gear is $20 rod and reels (that way I don't care about washing them or the kids snapping a tip) At best I might put $10 worth of braid on to flick lures haha

Anyone who's lost a good fish knows that soul destroying moment when the line goes slack and its gone, total disbelief. Contrasted with being elated by catching something so small 🤣. Great example of perseverance and the reality of fishing there.

The ultimate budget challenge is a handline. Often the only choice for backpackers. You should enjoy the feel better than the cheap rod.

that's my first fishing rod combo years ago.. still alive upto this day with new shimano 2000 reel. last fish i caught with this rod combo is 35cm salmon a month ago.

I tried fishing that bridge last week on a really windy day. Nothing on plastics but did see some massive bream and perch cruising around, definately some monsters in that part of the river.

The worst part of a cheap combo is the crappy mono line that wind knots every second cast with the terrible line memory loops... if you replace the fishing line most of them are pretty serviceable for a cheap fishing experience for a family camp
I agree, I had the most issues with line too! Not a fun experience haha

Here's a challenge for you - make all the fishing gear you need to catch three species of fish. Find, don't buy the bait. That will test you. (I don't know that I could meet these requirements) Good luck!
I have used the same rode for years and have caught heaps .
Massive bream and even a mud crub ,
If you only wanna target bream it's the perfect rode if you set it up correctly..

Garage sale challenge can only fish with used gear picked up at a garage sale. Or used gear from a local market or op shop?
Might be a few different challenges in there but if you see the opportunity take it, I haven’t seen that done by anyone yet!

Cool idea. Shows you can still catch fish with cheaper gear but I reckon you’d of kept more with a reel with better quality drag.
Challenge idea for a video is to try to catch squid using a hand reel.

I did a similar thing with my mate last year, he caught a Jewfish on a the cheap rod. One of the most entertaining days fishing we have had so far. Pink got BENT!!!!

What beach do you go to for squid fishing

I bought my 6 year old daughter (now almost 8) a $30 combo and she smashes the bream with that little rod, the reel feels like a toy lol, but it does the job and has caught many fish
first fish was tommy
Use the same rod with cheap jigs to jig for squid
Catch big snapper on 9-10lb line
in the old days when most reels had poor drag systems we would tune them by rubbing the washers flat with wet and dry sandpaper and a reel like that could get half decent a good fish then would not ruin the gears
Would be interesting to know what you would do to this rig to upgrade it, while still keeping budget in mind.
Pretty unlucky to lose the big ones lol. I think the line is just trash. I’m still keen on Ali express lure challenge.

You start with little bait and catch something bigger. Then use that fish for bait etc

Hey Nev" I've caught plenty of fish on cheap gear!, never blame the tool, blame the user.not everyone can afford stradics or similar' and we want to get more people fishing and being a brand snob might give people the wrong impression!?..just saying!! P.S yes I've got more rods than you can shake a stick at....some cheap and some I don't tell my missus about!.
One thing I’m not going to do is promote an awful product, I’d advocate spending a little more for MUCH better.

@UC7oiQLrNOjDPdMJI6eQBj9g I'm not going to argue the point about the $150 combo being a better investment!,but everyone has to start out somewhere just like I did and let me tell you this young fella" been fishing for nearly 50 years long before braid was a "thing" with 4lb mono and never had a fish bust me off! oh' and the drag on those old reels was sketchy at best, today we are spoilt with choice and quality.love your channel keep up the good work and if you want I'll give you my 30 year old Kmart Rex Hunt special!! lol

They have been catching a lot of salmon and whiting, also some big snapper.
I was there yesterday for about 4hours and caught a total of 8salmon. the biggest was 3kg.
Also caught a few squid

that is a white perch we have here in our river in Wisconsin in the bay white perch and white bass were all released when the ships came in and emptied their bilge water also lampreys and gobies and zebra mussels all of them are invasive species up here.

i still use this rod as a 13 year old and i have onlt changed the line and i have caught a 5 kg catfish
go to anaconda or bcf and tell them u have never fished before and want to use lures, buy everything they recommend and see how it goes.
