  • From the early 1900's on Port St Mary Promenade a small hotel (Ballaqueeney - named after the family farm) evolved into one of the largest on the Island in the tourism boom... times changed and what was left of the grandest part of the hotel (opened in 1935) has recently been demolished after decades sitting derelict.
The video covers some of its history and shows the building before during and after being torn down.

Well done with this video. Really good to have drone footage. It would have been great to see all the interesting features inside also. Maybe people have photos of this.

@@WILBYFILM Hi there. Thanks for the link. Great photos. I went into the Bay Queen many years ago. All the Art Deco features were there. It could have been restored with a bit of imagination. And would have been a tourist attraction. Happy New year.

This is heartbreaking. My childhood memories of so many happy holidays spent here. So sad, such an iconic building. Nothing seems to matter anymore....just cold hard cash and over development 😢😢😢

A most interesting video. But the accompanying music is distracting and totrally inappropriate. Sorry!

Thanks and sorry you didn't like the music but you are entitled to your opinion. For some parts I agree! It's quite difficult to pick music successfully especially when you have quite a time to fill. 🤔

I thought the music was good here and there. Probably each type of music went on a touch long.

First went to the isle of mann in 1967,this hotel was one of my choices, but eventally chose the beach hotel ramsey, which has now been converted into flats. Also enjoyed holidays at the pincess and royal hotels port errin , which have suffered the same fate as this iconic hotel. I think all the resorts on the island have been much underrated for years. I had wonderful holdays on the isle mann, Sad sign of the times! Regards from Lawrence.

Thanks for sharing Lawrence! We are good at demolishing things here it seems and it's a shame the hotels are not being replaced as I believe tourism still has much potential on the Island...

So sad it had to go this way. I grew up in Port St Mary, and the Balqueen ispart of my childhood memories. It's a pity that it couldn't have been saved and gutted to convert into apartments long ago, retaining some of the features (e.g. fireplaces) from its early days. Thanks for making this video.
