The funny part about me is that I crush interviews and get the job or whatever else I'm applying for, that's easy but small talk is not my strong suit. I get a little nervous and I'm a naturally quiet person so I really need to work on this because I think it's important. I also don't like when ppl try to ask nosey questions and I don't like oversharing, so it's a delicate balance that I know needs to be achieved.

I missed out a lot being an introvert. I started making videos of myself talking to me. I practiced how to appreciate people and i began being inquisitive. Now my colleagues ask me if i get angry at all. Learn pronunciations so that when you soeak somewhere everyone will want to know who is talking. But also learn to keep your boundaries. I would appreciate some "exit responses" to people who are being inappropriate with their questions. Once I said to an interrogator type: "Oh! Should I have brought my attorney?!" and then to the too personal person I usually say: "That's rather personal" and if they keep going (which they usually do) I will say: "Why is this so important to you?" These work really well, but I could use some fresh ideas!!
And a hard YES to a video about flirting small talk!

@@HarrisPilton789 The other commentor can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they want to not use any negative verbiage. Saying you don't wanna answer a question can come across as negative. I understand the point, but there are positive ways of not answering a question than putting it as you did. Maybe a better phrase could be "how about we talk about something more light hearted?" or "why so serious? let's talk about something more casual" if you know the person, ask them a question about their life that isn't too personal.

It is so important to notice how the people you are talking to are reacting to your comments and questions. There‘s a man at work and he always comes to me and he just asks way too personal questions like where exactly I live. It makes me feel very uncomfortable and I try to keep away from him. It‘s so annoying. Don‘t be ignorant to others‘ reactions to you! I don‘t even feel bad to ignore such people and letting them know trough a more aggression based comment that I am not interested. Otherwise they keep annoying you.

    • @carofantastic
      @carofantastic Рік тому +8

I agree , however sometimes I’ve noticed that some people don’t know how to read social cues or other peoples reactions. So I literally have to say “hey, these questions are making me uncomfortable, please stop asking them” . Also if you don’t know the person well, it’s hard to gauge their reactions . So it’s something to keep in mind.

If you live in a new city and mingle with a coworker/classmate, hearing that this person is from your hometown's "rival town" can be a quick icebreaker and quickly turn into an inside joke. If neither takes the rivalry too seriously, understands sarcasm and understands it is just all good fun - hilarious.
Had this with a fellow university student a few years back and it all started with a playful and theatrical "Oh no, you are from XX? Since I am from YY, I could never be friends with you!" said with a smile and a handshake. A friendship started then and there.

Some of these tips are quite helpful for people who speak more than one language. One of my close friends speaks French natively and speaks English as well. Initially, I really didn't enjoy conversing with her because her words would trail off into other words and run into each other. I realize now though that part of that has to do with the way French is spoken. It's definitely something to improve on but it's interesting how speech styles shift across languages.

I'm an introvert according to me but a loner and anti-social according to people. I've never had a problem making friends or small talk because once I'm comfortable I might overshare because talking in public is usual for me and talking or writing puts me in my element. My mother hates crowds and the stage but my grandmothers and father loved them. I might be too loud and talk too quickly for others to keep up so I have to remind myself to go at a moderate pace and keep checking my volume and content as I talk. Sometimes even think before I talk is a problem but sometimes it's a blessing. I seem to make people especially men feel comfortable to talk about their issues and get vulnerable with me.

Wow thank u so much!!! U don’t understand how much this has touched and helped me!!!! Omg!! Inc thing thank u!!! 🥹after my first interview 3 years ago I was stuck! It went to bad! The interviewer laughed and said he won’t hire me due to no type of communication skills. This broke me because that was so hard but I understand now that I have to change for me. When he would Ask questions it took me 30seconds to think of answers and I grew up so shy with no friends with bad social anxiety. I even dropped classss because I can’t do presentations. Today at 25 it hurts that I still have the same issues but it’s time to change ! Thank u queen! Ur so amazing 🥹🥹🥹🥹I love u so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are very great tips! Thank you so much! Now... let's all go practice! 😁 My problem was always skipping a small talks and going directly into more... intimate conversations. That's usualy not beneficial in professionall relationships. I'm always talking too much about me, because the other person keep asking questions, wanting to know me. That needs to stop. Now I'm taking control over the conversations 😁

can you do a video on connecting on a deeper level with someone we like, ideas on things to say...at times my mind goes blank. how do i master recognizing moments & knowing what to say to connect with what they said? sometimes iM clueless & missed moments where he shared smth about himself that he likes to talk about & that was important. what kinds of things can i share about myself to appropriately show vulnerability in response to what he said?

It makes me comfortable to know the person I’m talking to feels awkward in the beginning of the conversation. Makes me feel like I have control over the person I’m talking too. Might sound wrong or strange but it’s true. I feel like it’s up to me if the person will feel comfortable or not

Lol funny how this video showed up on my timeline. I hate small talk. It feels like a waste of time to me. It also feels fake. I do a lot of this "how is the weather" nonsense at my corporate job.
Lol I was raised to get straight to the point. If you want something from me, ask directly. Asking me how my day is going is fake because the moment I start actually mentioning what is going on, they cut me off and go blank. Things become awkward.

I read in a book on human relationships by dale carnegie that it’s all about being genuinely interested in the other person. It’s pretty cool how that small shift makes such a big difference in conversations.

What do you do when you genuinely can't think of what to say in a conversation? Like in theory I know roughly how you're supposed to respond, but in actual practice my mind always goes blank. It's like when you're in school with exam anxiety so your brain goes blank and you can't come up with the answers. I also have a really hard time actually speaking even when I know what I want to say, it always comes out like a jumbled mess like my brain and my mouth aren't properly connected. I've been practicing since I was a kid and I've never gotten better. I'm a really good listener but I can't speak 😭

Wow this is so me, and it sucks because i find that within my relationship i struggle the most. My boyfriend loves to converse and i can listen to him all day but when it’s time for me and he’s like “ how do you feel about xyz or what’s your input? It’s like my mind goes stupid and I’m like idk and it makes me so sad that idk why I’m like this.

I find that when I spend more time on my phone, I am less creative. While I do spend some time watching videos and reading articles, I do not spend hours and hours. I will also bring up videos and articles that I've read. Heck, I'll bring up The Feminine Universe. It could spark an interesting conversation!
