    Hi Sarah, I really loved this video with the Air Dry Clay bird sculpture lamp. It looked fantastic when it was finished, and it's utterly unique of course!
    Please, please, please Sarah would you please make a longer video one day, showing us as many different items as you can make out of Air Dry Clay, just do it once for us. I am mad about Das Air Dry Clay but I've run out of ideas of what to make. You always have great ideas, and thank you for all the inspiration you given many of us over the years. Your videos are always so much fun to watch. God bless you and all those you love, now and always.

    Fabulous result! I think it works so well because you took time to get the angle and positioning of the legs right in relation to the body. Also the shape of the body and head was carefully and accurately constructed to match the reference picture. Love how you did this. Thankyou.

      Thank you Wendy, some people tape the whole thing up with masking tape before adding the clay, I personally love the method I use because I feel the tin foil gives some texture to 'cling' to. Keep trying, well done ❤

    I love all the things you make. The crafters motto is ,” I could make that-but a little bit different”. I will tell you a little something I know about dry brushing though. Put paint on your brush but then scrub most of the paint off of it on a paper towel. Then dry brush. You’ll. Get a much softer look. Go back to that spot on the paper till where you scrubbed off the paint and try to get more paint onto your brush when it runs out but then when that is depleted , dip into the paint and scrub paint off to paper towel again and repeat. It will all look too subtle when you are done But just let it dry for 2 or three minutes. Then repeat the whole process. The second coat will become more obvious but still so soft and blended and just bringing up highlights and texture in such a natural way.

      Thanks. Yes I teach the kids how to dry rub their craft items a lot, it seems I just wanted to get the paint on there in this video 🤣😂🤣 thanks 😊❤️

    Yay, I was waiting for you to start making sculptures 😁 I'm a bit late as I didn't get any notification 🤬 Great video as usual! I'm not that keen on birds but loving how you explain the process.I know you were trying to find a sealant to waterproof clay, have you ever used Pal Tiya? Could you please review it in future? Some viewers who commented on previous videos were interested in garden sculptures. Apparently, Pal Tiya is a powder for outdoors sculptures that looks and feels like clay and air dries like concrete -no firing or kiln needed. It does look a bit plasticky or idk artificial to me though...Looking forward to more sculpture videos!🤞🥰

    If you don't want to attach the bird to a wooden base, how do you keep it stable? Maybe adding some stones to the bottom area of the wire/foil construction? I'm thinking about doing a raven as Halloween decor ...

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  2 роки тому +1

      If I wasn’t going to add a base I would have the bird sitting, and not make legs

    • @Aigra
      @Aigra 2 роки тому

      @@RedRockingBird I just did the wire part and I think (hope) it will work with having a bit of a longer tail that is pointing downwards and touching the table and kind of acts like a third leg. Let's see what happens when I add the clay.

      It should be fine if you tie the bag really tight and maybe wrap in cling film first as well, you can always mist the clay in the morning if you think it has dried out a bit if the air did get to it, best of luck, have fun

    Hello, Using the armature with Air Dry Clay, Did it crack while drying????

      Hi, yes will always crack to some degree with air dry clay, but not much on this one, then fill the tiny cracks once fully dry

    What types of paintings can I use in my air dry clay sculpture? Or what types do you suggest? I tried nail polish but the bottles are so tiny... I also have one tube of old oil painting but it barely has anything left, so I'm afraid of ruining/wasting it....

      As I show near the end of the video, small cracks appear which I then fill, it’s good and sturdy now, thanks

    I’ve tried doing this a few times but my clay cracks every time, I don’t know what to do now.

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  8 днів тому

      Do you add texture to the clay for the feathers, if so and there are cracks then wet the area and apply some fresh clay into the cracks and repeat the texture, as the clay shrinks some times it can’t be helped that the clay cracks

      You could try making a hollow shape, but if making the bird this size or bigger the clay would be very thick and this effects drying etc. I always use something for an armature

    Lord I need help. Would you be open to a zoom call? I have my sculpture structure but I am terrified of the clay. It seems so sticky and thick I can’t imagine how to get it to go on smoothly.

    • @RedRockingBird
      @RedRockingBird  11 місяців тому

      Sorry you’re having trouble, have you tried rolling the clay out and then applying to your sculpture? Put a little water on your fingers and then start sculpting, or if too sticky leave in the air for a few mins first

      Actually I scrapped the whole “air dry” and got a whole bunch of foam clay. This seems to be working.
