In “Lords of the Sith,” one of Pappy Palpy’s royal guards was a clone too. Palpatine makes a point to suggest he remove his helmet specifically to mess with Vader’s memories while they’re stranded in the Ryloth wilderness.
I got that book a few years ago and took it to school with me to read when I had time and I lost it before I read more then a few pages lmao

@@marrqi7wini54 but if you read the Republic Commando Books by Karen Traviss, you’ll see that the Clone Commandos don’t want a bodyguard job, they’d much rather be shooting things and blowing stuff up.

It's really more like going from that to being the part of the Secret Service that protects the US president.
For the most part yes but the Emperor would also deploy them as his personal agents and for missions of crucial importance to him and if I remember right they were regularly put on temporary assignment to stormtrooper legions so they wouldn't lose their edge.

I always just assumed the Senate Guards became Imperial Guards, but Commando's also being them actually makes a lot of sense.

I think it makes it more tragic. They think they can, but they really can't.
Inhibitor chips also contradicts dialogue from AOTC: "We modified their genetic structure to make them less independent than the original host. As a result they are totally obedient, taking any order without question." - Lama Su to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Inhibitor chips weren't needed when Order 66 went down at all because they were bred to be completely loyal. Lama Su also says "They're immensely superior to droids, capable of independent thought and action." This part I take to mean once they are given a order they can think independently to achieve the goal of the order. You can argue that Rex saying "good soldiers being able to think for themselves" is supportive of this idea that they can operate independently but of course the context matters and I don't think that was what Rex meant. Rex meant good soldiers are able of complete independent thought, which the clones shouldn't have been.

Can you do a video in that "Building the perfect fleet" template, but with a type of character? Such as creating the perfect general, or bounty hunter, or jedi/sith, where you have certain attributes that you pick from characters and you can't take from the same character more than once to build the perfect one. Love the channel and all the videos!
The Gray Stripe of their armor matches the Gray Stripe visible on Palpatine’s Shuttle in Return of the Jedi (as seen in this video).
I think the cloning will continue just with the commandos to make the darth/death troopers

I really like this theory. It's a great way of keeping the legacy of the clones alive even if it was unfortunately twisted to benefit the dark side. And I know the recent films aren't great but they make a point of the sith continuing cloning, it's almost as if Palpatine has some preference towards it.
Fleet battle between
Grand admiral Thrawn vs. Ender Wiggin
Each one has an equal sized fleet with equally capable subordinates, and since Ender is from a different universe each has equal understanding of the technology they’re using. They are in command of Star Wars vessels. Pick a famous fleet of your choosing I’d suggest death squadron.
Thrawn would win. Ender was a good tactical mind, be he was only a child with (by comparison) very little experience. Ender was also (IIRC) more used to leading small strike squadrons, where as Thrawn was more in his element leading fleets and micromanaging battles.
If Thrawn and Ender were leading squads of ground soldiers against each other Ender would probably win tho
@@jaredsundberg1081 thrawn preferd small fleets, and Ender had a high Reaction/learning curve in each encounter so maybe thrawn win but it would not be that obvius/easy

I don't think it really makes sense for clone commandos to become royal guards, because palpatine wanted to end the cloning program, so he probably wouldn't want clones to be a part of his personal protective squad

@@Ryan-fw3pb I think Gregor summed up the Empire's decision to replace clones with recruits the best. I also don't think Palpatine gave to much direction on the decision besides the clones completed his ultimate purpose of killing most of the Jedi and he now has no need for any further clones. I believe most of the details of shutting down the cloning program fell to Tarkin and Rampart.
The only 2 reasons he'd not want them to be clones is he's worried about about the only non Force users capable of killing him deciding to turn on him either on their own OR someone doin what they did in the Comics and trying to 66 him like they tried to do to Vader. An he worried they'll catch him at a bad time an he might literally get a knife in the back.
As a massive fan of both crimson empire and the clone commando novels, all I can say is yes, just yes
I think the imperial royal guard has two divisions: the emperors royal guard on the top and imperial commandos on the bottom. For the roles at mount tantis, emeperors royal guard protect the most valuable artifacts in mount tanks while the imperial commandos act as the main security. Such as catching intruders and escorting imperial staff and visitors, also guarding prisoners.

I don’t think that this was a mistake but we know from cannon that palpatine distrusted the clones after order 66 so I would doubt he would keep the best of all clones as a personal gaurd I would guess they are the ones who train the royal gaurd

To add to this in the Lords of the Sith novel one of the Royal Guards accompanying palpatine to Ryloth was revealed to be a clone after being killed
In Dart Vader - Dark Lord of the Sith #2 one of the clones says: "Maybe we get to put on those red helmets, standing right next to Palpatine himself" speaking about what will happen to them after the war

While the Clone Commandos were phenomenal at what they did, they were not the best at general combat. That honour would have to go to the ARC Troopers, in my opinion. However, even the main series of ARC Troopers (as opposed to the Null ARCs) we’re far more independent than most clones, they wouldn’t have been the best candidates for Royal Guards. The Clone Commandos were independent enough to be effective as Royal Guards while still remaining loyal due to their training and programming.
My understanding was that the ARC's , the commandos and regulars were all slightly different genetically. This is from Legends of course. The Null ARC's certainly were as they were basically a first go and the Kaminoians felt they'd tinkered too much with the DNA and were a failure which is why they were set for termination. The ARC's also being personally trained by Jango certainly would have made them far more independent than other clones. The commandos trained by Mandalorians and the reg were simulation, computer trained. Having different genetic templates for different roles would make sense too. I can imagine you'd want something quite for your commanders who are more intellectual than a front line grunt.
I took the "Imperial Royal Guard" label on the concept art as a error. Like you said we already saw the Royal Guard in ROTS & during the TCW, also on that concept art Wayland was spelt wrong as "Weyland". Previously there was the Senate Guard and also the Senate Commando's. So these are probably the Imperial equivalent of Senate Commando's. The only problem with this thinking is that the Senate Guards & Commando's all wore the same cerulan colour, so if these new troopers really are the equivalent they should be wearing red. Wookiepedia aren't acknowledging these commandos as Royal Guard either.
It would make sense that some of the best and loyal clone troopers would become imperial Royal guards. Through some retraining in a guard function instead of a behind enemy lines espionage function, I can see the appeal

The art sheet name is pretty explicit. Still, I have trouble imagining the likes of Boss or Scorch being delighted to don some extremely impractical suit and stand around Palpatine doing nothing all day. Chip or no chip...😂

Then there's also the fact that the Royal Guard corps existed as early as AOTC... I don't know.
"Funny" thing, the only other clone troopers with gray markings that I know of were the Kamino Guards. Having Commandos with similar markings escorting Nala Se could have been a warning.

So I’ll say, is it possible Palpatine was using Clone Commandos in his Red Guard early on? Yes. Is it likely? No. Here is why. Commandos were trained and used for asymmetrical warfare. Meaning they were saboteurs, assassins, and infiltrators. They could serve as bodyguards, but they were more effective sending out and eliminating threats to the empire’s control. So is it more likely they could be Palpatine’s personal hitman army? Yes. And for now, if they’re not on active orders they train the stormtroopers and act as a security force for safeguarding high value prisoners as a way to use their experiences for another service to the empire (even though ARC troopers would be better used for this since they had frontline combat experience which was the stormtroopers purpose).
If the imperial royal guard isnt a ubrella term/unit for all units that are in some way special like comandos, former senate guards Palpatines red guards and so on. I would think that it would be wastefull to use actual commandos to protect something over a long time period. For training new storm troopers they could be usefull at least for man to man combat or small unit tactics but not for anything bigger than 8 to 15 guys a normal clone officer would be better. At least from what I can recall from the novels the commandos are better for offensive operarions with small units like hunting jedi, destroying/killing left overs from the seperatists or killing rebels. The armour on the other hand would be usefull to guard installations like that in the Bad Batch or similar things. The reasons in my oppinion are that its tougher than regular clone and storm trooper amour, has night and or thermal sight and has shields. The shields are good becuase you could litteraly form a wall of man around the person/thing you want to protect without loosing the man. The sight modes can be usefull indoors in dark tunnels or to see through smoke and in the dark. Maybe they used the commando armour for a guard unit because of its properties.

@Eckhartsladder Question I was thinking about could Star Wars franchise now be considered a Multiverse like Pokemon, DC, Marvel, Star Trek, etc. Reason why I think this is because before Disney bought Star Wars all of the books from 1978-2014 was the original continuity, now we have Disney Canon, we have the video games that have you choose the Dark Side and now we have Visions which takes place in a different universe. Alot of people want the sequel trilogy retconned through the World Between Worlds because of what happened to Luke, Ackbar, Leia, Han, etc. Plus what was the point of the New Republic fighting for freedom If it was going to be undone 30 years later. Just something to consider as a video

It was the coloration of those clones stationed on coruscant if I’m not mistaken, they were the military presence there while the Coruscant Guard was more like a Swat team/VIP security detail

1. If they were commandos, why are they that weak? They didnt even customized their armor.
2. A clone commando is trained to fight in a squad behind the enemies lines. They are ineffective in battles. Why are they training stormtroopers? This makes no sense.
For armor customization, under the Empire that all went away for the sake of uniformity. As for the second point that could be blamed on Rampart since he wanted the best clones to train the new stormtroopers, but he probably didn't specificy what clones were best at what since commandos are some of the best clones but for the reasons you stated.
@@captaincoolbreeze9429 yes but what about scorch? He had a Customized armor. And He was the only commando there that acted like a commando.
@@RC--lm8tj Well Scorch is from Delta Squad so he is one of the best commandos. And the others were just nameless clone commandos with plain white armor. Their skill level is beyond the TK troopers they were training amd given that I believe only two others, besides Scorch, went up against Gregor, Hunter, Tech, and Echo would be a clue as to why they underperformed, especially since commandos, unlike ARC troopers, perform best in squads of four.
I wouldn't doubt if they became Imperial Guards
