Its crazy to look read chat cause so many of them clearly have no basis in rock/punk/metal music and are just comparing them to bands that they've heard of before. Three Days Grace? Linkin Park? Anti-Flag? There was even a comparison to Tools 10,000 Days. Also interesting little fact about the album, the band was filming a documentary in the Congo for War Child Canada. Near the end of filming, conflict began again. There were mortar shells landing nearby their hotel and gun shots being fired literally just feet away. The album is named Chuck, after UN Peacekeeper Chuck Pelletier, who got everyone in the hotel to safety armed with just a wooden club. The event affected the band greatly and this albums sound and lyrical themes are a reflection of their time spent in the Congo. The documentary is called Rocked: Sum 41 in Congo if anyone would care to watch, it is uploaded in its entirety on UA-cam.
Linkin Park genuinely inspired parts of this album. Deryck has performed with Linkin Park as well. It's not a secret. There's a copy pasted lyric/melody at one point basically lol
all of the songs your comparing these songs to or saying that they sound close too are all HUGE stretches, making half this review seem really cringy to me. almost like you went into this wanting to hate this album.
It's so frustrating dude. I couldn't even finish the video. It's like no one even knows what they're talking about they just want to hate it right away. His take on "Pieces" was so fucking bad, I get not liking ballads, but objectively, it's a great song. Him singing "numb" over "there's no solution" is so wild to me too. Holy fuck. It's just insulting.
It’s ok most of the audience just sucks him off whenever he likes something or not. It’s like they only base their opinions on his and it’s super annoying lol
Hes a funny dude, but ya i think he wants sum 41 to be just pop punk, like blink 182, since it seems he likes underclass more than this? No pop punk band at the time, had the chops of sum 41, sorry to say haha. They evolved so much from all killer to chuck, strange… also 88 vs reigning blood? Not sure that is the best comparison. One has pop punk, jazzy lounge piano, metal and psychedelic rock, the others straight up a trash song with 0 melody, which is fine if thats what you are after. But its apples to oranges a bit. I guess to each their own 😅. Enjoyed the listen from a different perspective i guess.
Bunch of brown noses on his chat sucking up to him cause they can't make up their own minds. Is this album perfect ? No, but it sure is entertaining and some of the comparisons are way off track. Limp bizkit? Motorhead? Slayer? They sound nothing alike. Sure the last two may be influences but that's about it.
Haha, cant believe you thought underclass was more compelling and interesting? They use the same bminor chord progression on 4 tracks. Maybe cause you like blink, its closer to that. Haha agree with the bitterend comment, that was the point where they showed that they cant bs on the test 😂
Kind of agree with his points on the lyrics. I feel like their lyrics don’t really mature or get compelling until their comeback. Musically, this is still my favorite from them.
I'm seeing a lot of people making comparisons where there really aren't many to be made. I've not watched your content before, so I can't say it's common place, but it does seem that the chat has a tenuous grasp on the concept of a genre. They're listing other bands from that era within that genre.... like, sure there's gonna be similarities at best, but it seems you came into the album with the intention of not liking it, and that fed the chat, which in turn fed you back. It's not a perfect album, in fact it's "alright" at best, but you seem to want to focus on the negatives and not positives, which is unfortunate.
Dude... it's fucken pop punk....the operative word here being POP, and pop punk is comparable to the style of music Britney Spears sporting Docs pretending to be hardcore crust after her first CBGB experience in 1977 would sound like lol........so that genre to me is more pop than punk,(which when we were younger we called pup puke) .......this is the only Sum 41 tune I like. I wonder if they added all their ages together and the sum was 41 and...tada!!!!! AND Lemmy (bassist for Motorhead) is, at this very moment fighting his way out of his grave to avenge the sin of comparison !!!! I don't believe anyone ever in history has mistaken whatever that sum 41 song was for The Ace of Spades. And just an observation....your tone and manner of expressing opinions is reminiscent of middle school mentality. Don't take yourself so seriously, No one else does.

His chat is full of people who actually don't know anything about music
Wow his chat is so edgy "I just feel like I've heard it before" IT'S 20 YEARS OLD
Chuck might be my fave album of theirs. When they really lean into their metal influences, they really kill it and become something unique.
Ya i wish they had continued along this line, loved this album and its experimentation. Felt like blinks 182’s untitled
making referances & comparisons to many songs/bands released after sum 41 songs
all of the songs your comparing these songs to or saying that they sound close too are all HUGE stretches, making half this review seem really cringy to me. almost like you went into this wanting to hate this album.
Lots of them also came out after this album lmfao

How bad is his and the chats opinion?
= YES!
Sum 41 is probably one of my favorite bands from the 2000s. It’s lowkey kind of disheartening seeing everyone in the chat and Brad shitting on it :(
agreed
It’s ok most of the audience just sucks him off whenever he likes something or not. It’s like they only base their opinions on his and it’s super annoying lol

I've watched a few of this dude's videos, the chat is hyper eager to criticize everything and call it a ripoff of other bands

Dudes chat is so insufferable lmao. Somehow worse than Melon's
With all due respect, that chat was absolutely foul.
oh hey another one i sent in
where did you get all this money lmao
King (also Underclass Hero next?👀)

Outstanding album, easily their crown jewel
To me, No Reason sounds a lot better when you're playing NFL Street 2
This review was filled with none stop bad takes
Love Sum 41. Less go
Great album
DTLI is their Ride The Lightning and Chuck is their Master Of Puppets
this album is great i honestly feel like brad would like screaming bloody murder more though
Wow, his opinions on this are shit.
Brother tried everything he could to ruin this album for me
Bro can you write anything like this, you call it terrible, so you try and make it better
Actually great band

This album is great! I don't get all the hate, I mean, what's so bad about it?
