  • My video in homage to the Land Cruiser Series 4, this venerable and mythical all-terrain vehicle with a puncture-proof engine and almost agricultural mechanics that nothing can stop, except the corrosion which will sooner or later require a substantial restoration.
This legendary vehicle is increasingly rare, especially in the long version, but we can still find it at prices not too indecent. Restored to new, their value can climb well beyond 50,000 euros.
The Land Cruiser Series 4 was designed in 1960 and production ceased in 1984. It existed in many body versions (van, hard top, pickup) and in 3 possible wheelbases.
This 1984 Land Cruiser BJ 45 is one of the last to be built. Its first owner was "Médecin Sans Frontière" who used it to deliver medicines. The BJ45 are sometimes equipped with side benches at the back, it can then take 9 people and it is nicknamed the "Bush Taxi".
BJ means the engine is an atmospheric 4 cylinder diesel which increased from 3.0 to 3.4 liters in 1980. The HJs are 6-cylinder diesels while the FJs are gasoline engines.
45 means "long wheelbase", it is the longest length available above the 46 (medium) and 42 (short).
This BJ 45 van, with its safari look, is at the same time an old-timer vehicle, a convertible van, and all-terrain: it has something to seduce as a leisure vehicle or to go on a raid. However, we will have to accept to give up the comfort of modern cars: almost zero soundproofing, no air conditioning, leaf suspensions, driving ergonomics from another era ... this is also what makes it so charming!
