Coco has got to be my absolute favorite film this year, definitely my favorite Disney movie. The visuals were out of this world, the scene where Miguel went to the Land of the Dead blew me away. Such an emotional movie, too.
Dunkirk was by far my favorite film because it captured the fear of Dunkirk beach during World War II. And, the cool thing about this movie is it explains the story of Dunkirk with very few words. It made you feel fear but at the same time hope.
this guy is very good, great critics
love the atmosphere described
Baby driver was probably my favorite movie of the year. It has that awesome adventurey feel, while exposing the audience to new music that they probably haven't heard of before, and the music is from a lot of generations, not just ours.
I literally knew every song lol
Loved Thor Ragnarok. Waititi really refreshed the MCU format.
If you haven't seen his "Tipsy Talk" interview with Hazel Hayes, I highly recommend it! Absolutely love the guy.
Omg yes and homecoming was awesome too
hes one of my favorite directors. have you seen what we do in the shadows? its wonderful!
no zucchini I’ve heard of it but over never watched it. I just finished watching ‘get out’ that pj suggested
My favorite film of 2017 was baby driver for sure. I went in to the theaters knowing nothing about it and came out with it being one of the best movies I've ever seen. It meant a lot to me right off the bat because I have tinnitus and also that thing were music has always been playing in my head for as long as I can remember, so you could see how I would relate haha. But beyond that I absolutely loved the score and the editing, and the storyline was amazing. Somehow it was able to keep you on the edge of your seat, laugh, and cry within the span of 15 minutes lol. If you haven't seen it, I would recommend it to anyone.
Didn't like baby driver
Why did they have to make Jamie Foxx the bad guy
That annoyed me
" 'sallimsayin'
'sallimsayin'

'sall im sayin' "

PJ, your videos are always so fun and creative. They always make my day :)
Oh and my favourite film this year has gotta be Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok. I think he's actually New Zealand's national treasure. Anyway, I thought he did such a great job of changing the typical drab grey marvel superhero film into a colourful and hilarious adventure that really left me feeling the way one should be feeling after viewing a superhero movie. Oh, and his character Korg? The best. God I love New Zealand
My favourite movie of this year has to be "Your Loving Vincent". If you haven't seen it, you really should. I think PJ would enjoy it. It's a polish production about Van Gogh, entirely hand-painted by over 100 artists. It's breathtaking.
Favorite films of this year:
Thor: Ragnarok
Wonder Woman
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Logan
Get Out
Atomic Blonde
Blade Runner 2049 (best of the list)
I only saw 5 movies in 2017 lol so my top 5 favorites were
power rangers
wind river
Thor ragnorok
Wonder Woman
spider man homecoming
My favourite film this year has to be Loving Vincent
I know right?! Every few moments, I realized every frame was *literally* a painting again and every time, the concept never ceased to be a marvel. The plot was kind of quiet but still intense and interesting. Good choice.
I honestly cannot choose my favourite movie this year. I love Kimi no Kawa, as I’ve already stated enthusiastically on one of the top comments above, but I also love La La Land. I saw Inception this year too, and gOd that blew me away. I would have to say that Kimi no Kawa (Your Name in english) is my absolute favourite, but only by a little bit. It possesses the most beautiful animation I have ever seen, on the level of Ghibli animation. It also has the pure emotional depth of Ghibli films, with such a heart wrenching story and a simple but beautiful theme. The soundtrack, oh my god, is actually amazing. It was written and recorded by Japanese band Radwimps, and it is absolutely fantastic. The songs are so so catchy and have that kind of classic pop rock feel, while the actual soundtrack music is brimming with emotion. Even though it is quite a bittersweet experience, there are still pops of humour throughout, lightening the mood. In conclusion, please watch Kimi no Nawa, you will love it.
I saw kimi no nawa this year for the first time in the cinema, the animation is so beautiful and I love the soundtrack
My favourite film this year was Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. (That came out on disc this year right?) I just can't get over the insane detail and love poured into the film. It was beautiful and had a more unique male lead that I think I needed to be refreshed with.
My favourite film this year was Logan, usually i'm not the biggest fan of superhero movies but this one just had so much more depth and was more emotional than any other Marvel movie I have seen.
I've watched all the films on that list except for don't breathe. And everyone of them was really good. But personally, La la Land was a bit of a meh for me, probably because I went in with huge expectations
i need more movie reviews from you, PJ! you made it all sound so interesting. i'll watch it all this christmas break!
this year? EDGAR WRIGHT directed BABY DRIVER!!!! But movie of all time would most likely be Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. I’m obsessed with all of your top picks though- always am
WhatTheHeks YES ITS SO GOOD
Logan literally broke my heart on so many different levels and I just love suffering
My favourite film this year was Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice). I loved the sweet musical score, the in depth character development, the bright and sometimes abstract/symbolic animation and the overall story. It was a great film and brought out a unique perspective. It was an emotional roller coaster and got me feeling warm and bubbly by the end.
Oh, just realised it was a 2016 film, but it was released this year in Australia so I'm counting it :).
Mary Johnston ahh yes I loved that one too! So many feels, and I loved the music and animation style :)
I just bought it on dvd, going to watch it with the fam tomoz
Baby Driver. Hands down best movie this year. The sound track. The editing. The characters and character development. And don’t even get me started on the opening scene. It’s just such an amazing movie.
My favorite film of 2017 is probably "Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2"
it's amazing
and has Chris Pratt in it
it's funny
and has Chris Pratt in it
the story is awesome
(and has Chris Pratt in it)
My favorite film this year was kubo and the two strings. I think its from last year but the story was amazing and so was the art. It made me cry laugh and smile all at once.
That movie is from last year, but it's so good that's fine. It should definitely still be talked about.
Not going to lie I saw lala land 3 times in the theater I kind of half and cried all 3 times just because it's so beautiful. I love how lala land feels both fresh and nostalgic at the same time, which I think everyone needs😊❤️
Is this your new lense you talked about on your second channel? I feel like I can taste the colors😛
yes it is and yes you can!
KickThePj I conclude the christmas light green to be the best
KickThePj
Same. But I like to slurp them up insted
yes gd it's beautiful.
Make a podcast about films and have on ur friends as guests!
Wait...slurp gods? There are gods of slurp? I have so many questions. Do they get agitated easily? Is there an agreement you have with them to keep them satisfied in order to keep their slurpy wrath from raining down upon the mortal realm? Does Pj actually save the universe every time he does a slurp?
I didn't think the narrative of "Loving Vincent" was especially compelling, but the painted-animation style really inspired me to get painting again & attempt something similar, in my own style.
your editing is amazing
the emoji movie 100%
oH YES 10/10 would rate, my no. 1 favorite movie. Would give it a 100% rotten tomatoes score
YOUR PROFILE PIC I CANT HAHAHA
There’s are scene in Dunkirk I think (my dad told me) where a captain/seargent/commander sends all his troops on a ship, but there’s no room for him so he catches the next boat. That scene was based on my great grandfather
Oh gosh. Your Name/Kimi no na wa has to be my favourite film of this year. I literally expected a typical happy romance movie when i went into the cinema and myself and half the audience left crying like babies. The animation, the music, the story line, the voice acting. Everything about it was so beautiful from start to finish; it made my heart race. I can remember each part so vividly.
Christopher Nolan is a god. Hans Zimmer is a god.
When put together they make magic.
Omg yaw Hans zimmer is a legend
He looks sooooooooooooooo attractive with those glasses
Sofia Chavarria right?
Sofia Chavarria well lucky for you he needs them so he’s gonna be wearing them the whole while so you can admire him
as “cliché” as it sounds, i reallyy liked It. i mean who didn’t like it yknow. i don’t know if it’s my favourite this year, but i just can’t stop thinking about it. i always loved horror movies but they are always really cheesy and predictable and i got kinda tired of it, but when i saw it, i was like “dude that’s such a cool movie”. i didn’t find it really scary or anything, but the atmosphere and the design of everything were just so good and it made the film so creepy. they didn’t use jumpscares to make us jump, they used the story, the look of things and, again, the atmosphere. idk i just really liked it and also how everyone got so involved with the movie like it was amazing. anywho i rlly liked the vid, good films 10/10 tastes
IT WAS SO GOOD
i cried like four times when watching it because i cared so much about every character
I rly look forward to watching it, but I’m gonna read the book first
I didn't like it
On the level it was a good movie with a good story and all but too many scenes took me out the movie
Like the film scene where the clown comes out the screen buts giant and the special effects at times felt like a CBS movie
Some of the child actors where good like the girl but others where trash like the large kid
Not an easy watch
Better than the original though
axelisemotional I was trying to work out what film you were talking about. Oops
Get Out is absolutely my favorite movie this year. Acting, the screenplay, directing, music, everything is perfectly put together to create this masterpiece of a movie. Not only that, it is even better when you watch is for the second time, because then you notice all the foreshadowing that is happening in the 1st half of the movie and it's even scarier when you already know what is happening to some people in it. I love it so much.
Another great video, PJ! Doesn't matter what you do it just always looks so polished and beautiful! :D
Favourite film of the year?... Oh boy, that's a tough one to pick ... Uhm... Probably would have to be Logan for me. Was just such a beautiful way to end his saga I think!
Oddly enough I really enjoyed the IT remake I think if you go in not expecting it to be a horror the characters are pretty good. Idk it might just be the inner Steven King nerd or that the characters were pretty accurate to the books but I loved it
I also really loved Kubo and the Two Strings which I saw this year, the animation style and story were breathtaking
My favorite film this year was Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 because of how fun it was to watch and the various relationships between the characters as well as the development of these! With that being said, Dunkirk was so amazing, too
My favorite film this year was DEFINITELY "Wonder," filmed by Stephen Chbosky. His perspective on this little boy who looks different to the rest of the world on the outside, but is a total sweetheart underneath, is just truly inspiring. His perspectives have taught me a lot--especially in this specific film. I believe the world needs to gain a little perspective and watch more films like this.
you should watch the film Band Aid, it's an indie film by Zoe Lister-Jones. It's seriously one of the bests I've seen this year.
when Chris was mentioned i choked on my milk
shrek the ogre saaaammmmeeeee
What KIND of milk?
does it matter? chocolate if you must
My recent favourite hAS to be Call Me By Your Name. Not only is the music amazingly translates what the characters feel in an elegant manner, but the way the film was shot made the blooming relationship between elio and oliver look so natural. The cinematography is amazing, the location was gorgeous. The story felt complete without the need for an antagonist. Also Armie Hammer.
As a gal who used to work at a theater (cinema for my fellow Brits), I'd just like to point out that most of these films Peej recommended were at the beginning of the year which I find interesting.
Anywho, my favorite film, one I hold dear to my heart, as it was my first film I got to see as a perk for being a movie theater employee, was *Lion* . I would work mostly at the box office and it was a film that didn't get much attention from the public, but getting bored and reading through all the movie descriptions caught my attention. Get ready, because it's a tear jerker. All I've got to say is that I did not expect it to be so touching and have recommended several times, people absolutely falling in love with it and I'm a person that likes to rewatch movies, it still brought me to tears, probably even more the more I saw it. The characters are so lovable you can feel what they were feeling at that moment.
-Notable mention: I believe it came out 2016 but I rewatched it in its physical copy this year, *A Dog's Purpose* [warning, another tear jerker], damn, I just love emotional movies in all honesty
I saw this film on Netflix called: The fundamentals of caring. I had never heard of it before but apparently, it has been out for quite a while. I watched it and now it's one of my favorite movies ever! I think it's a drama, which I normally don't like, but this is an exception.
My favorite film this year has got to be The Last Jedi! Such a good plot and great character development.
Libby Wolnik agreed. Very rich character development.
Baby Driver was my favourite film this year. The way the soundtrack and just music and general was laced so strategically and effoetlessly into the film is just inspiring to me. It gave a new light to how music influences a film, and how films can use music.
loving vincent! i've been following it's production for a few years and was finally able to see it at my local art house. it's such a uniquely made, but beautifully told story about the father of modernism. the integration of his paintings to the telling of his life through the letters he sent theo... my art major heart loved every minute
My fffffavourite film this year was
What the fuck have I done this year
I'm really confused right now
I can't recall having watched films help
Saaaaamee
Its scary bc of how much I relate
PlimPlamPlum Doc ive only watched like.... 2 films
(lala land and I.T)
I thought he said "Phil!" as the theme xD
Get Out is by far my favorite horror film this year. I sat down one afternoon and watched it with my family and I screamed a little bit but LOVED it.
Kimi no na wa/Your name, saw it this year though its from 2016 and its been stuck in my mind ever since. Loved it 😊
I couldn't finish that film
That movie is stunning
omg that film....killed my friends and I when we watched it. Actually, I initially felt angry-sad in a "Y U DO THIS" way, but it no doubt is an amazing and emotional film.
Definitely Coco is my favorite movie for this year. Many people call it a ripoff since the story is kind of like The Book of Life but not to me. The storyline just got more interesting as the movie progressed and the characters were so different and unique. The art design behind it is also just beautiful and they did such a good job with background art. It really was amazing to watch
i think the best film i've seen this year was Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It made me feel so many emotions, and the production was amazing. Also Eddie Redmayne. Obviously.
UniBobble fantastic beasts was so stellar, i literally cannot wait for the crimes of grindelwald
I absolutely loved La La Land. I have a deep love and appreciation for jazz-I cried the first time I ever saw live jazz-and for those colorful, iconic shots that were so reminiscent of old Hollywood musicals, like the wide angle overlooking the final number of the film. It really felt not just like a love story between two very human people, but a love story about passion and music and art. It carried a lot of respect for the classic movie musicals while still bringing something fresh to the genre with the realistic and bittersweet results. The thoughtfulness by Hurwitz in the score blew me away and makes me cry everytime I hear a chord reminiscent of his music (I'm a crier). Because of both La La Land and his work on Whiplash, another favorite of mine, I'm really looking forward to Chazelle's next project; I just love films that care as much as I do as an audience member and make it so easy and enticing to invest myself in the narrative as if it were my own.
okay i know i’m late, but i am so, SOOOO happy you mentioned the big sick. i absolutely adored that film, and kumail nanjiani is one of my all time favorite comedians. your description of him was SPOT on. i was very excited to see one of my favorite film makers make a video talking about film, i don’t think i’ve ever watched a video more appropriate for my passions! happy *belated* new year :p
[pushes up film nerd glasses] My favorite film of the year is A Ghost Story
Guide theLight FUCK YES it's the best
Yess how can i forget that! There are a lot of good films this year omg
My favorite film this year might have to be Thor Ragnorak
Shadow Realm omg I was torn. Ragnarok was just SO GOOD. I haven’t had that much fun at the movies all year.
Jesse Gallant me neither, but Thor was pretty great
I loved Ragnarok, actually. My favorite film this year would've been IT if the fanbase hadn't ruined it for me...
Shadow Realm that one was funny, definitely on the top 10 for me
My favourite movie this year had to be Wonder. It’s a movie about a little boy who had to undergo lots of surgeries so he could breath, see, hear, etc. It shows not only his struggles of becoming confident, but it also shows his family’s POV and how they’re holding up
Spider-Man Homecoming.
Spider-Man was the first superhero I got crazy into when I was little, and seeing it reimagined like that made my heart so happy. I was filled with bursts of nostalgia but also tastes of newness that I was worried wouldn’t come up.
My favourite film of the year was IT. I just thought the story was so twisted and weird that I went to the cinema 2 twice to see it. The one thing I loved was that the main characters were kids which just made it 100 times better. The acting was great and obviously the best part of all was Finn Wolfhard am I right
Alyssa Singh Yeah, agree. Usually after reading a book I’m a bit disappointed at the movie, but IT was so well made I wasn’t the slightest bit disappointed after watching the movie on the big screen.
Don’t forget Wyatt and Jaeden tho
Reasons to watch Lala land: Ryan Gosling, Ryan Gosling, and....hmmm......Ryan Gosling
Also, Dunkirk is a really good movie (in my opinion) and after watching the movie I realized that Harry Styles was in it XD
I loved Hush. It's about a deaf girl trying to escape a murderer and the story is built entirely on amazing acting and dramatic irony as opposed to actual spoken lines
i really appreciated how well made coco is, you could count the character's freckles and i love a nicely animated film
My favourite film this year was actually Thor: Ragnarok. Reason being I hadn't watched any of the other Thor films, so I was coming in fresh, and was just able to appreciate Taika Waititi's awesome style. (*screams* Go New Zealand *woop*). It was also nice to watch this film with some of my best friends. Ok. That is all. (Did I mention I'm from New Zealand?)
Greetings fellow New Zealander *offers high five
Lola Evans *happily returns high five*
YES I LOVED THIS FILM
LOVED THAT INTRO!
I’m tied on two films, Loving Vincent which is a entirely hand painted film that captures Van Gogh paintings brought to life & also Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing Missouri, it’s a great social commentary about so many different problems we face & it’s a perfect representation of the rural people & parts of Missouri.
the big sick was my favorite film of this year. my friend had wanted to see it since the first trailers came out, and I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was when we went to see it. but there was the perfect amount of people in the theater, I laughed and stressed along with the characters- it was a really great experience for a really, really wonderful film.
My favourite movie this year must probably be Dunkirk, because of the experience and all the emotion and love you got. (But not without a good cup of Twinings Earl Grey Tea)
My favourite movie this year would have to be Wonder. I went into it blind, not knowing the storyline or anything about the characters. When Auggie appeared on the screen and took off his helmet, I literally started crying. It was so heartwarming, so beautiful, and all around a good film. I'm not usually emotional when it comes to films, but I couldn't stop crying. I immediately felt connected to the characters and the storyline. The film showcases the ups and downs of many different perspectives, all with a similar goal. I'd definitely recommend this film to anyone who loves a heartwarming story, or who strives to be something bigger than themselves.
I cried every 5 minutes when watching Wonder, and every time that I thought I was "cried-out" they did it again! It was beautifully made and stayed true to the original plot and message. It was so beautiful.
When he said La La Land I squealed so hard! I love that movie so much!
I loved Wonder, it's about this kid that's a little different than the others and goes to school for the first time. He likes to wear his astronaut helmet 24/7 and loves space, I think you'll love the film too! Also Owen Wilson is one hilarious dude.
A ghost story is totally up there for me. It really pushed a different style of storytelling.
I've never seen such a beautiful film as "Call me by your name" by Luca Guadagnino
"Gifted" is my favourite movie. It's really underrated
It didn't release this year but it's called Boys In The Trees. It takes place on Halloween, talking about childhood friendships being torn apart and put back together. Heartbreaking, but beautiful. IT'S ON NETFLIX!
my fav film has gotta be the room. my friend made me watch it while I was staying at hers coz she knows I love shitty jokes and bad acting. she even took me to watch the disaster artist for my birthday last week!
Philip's fringe Oh hai mark
so how's your sex life?
Oh hai doggy
That beginning was amazing
My favorite film this year has been Dunkirk! The way they used sound to heighten the stress levels and the way they told they story through separate periods of time that were actually all happening together? Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Also wow the cinematography in that?
Murder on The Orient Express directed by Kenneth Branagh was my favourite film this year. I was nearly in tears in the cinema because it was so goddamn beautiful.
My favorite film this year was definitely Wonder. It was just so heartwarming and emotional, I actually cried 5 times my first time watching it. And it was just a really special experience. My family's been going through some stuff lately, but we all took a break and went to go see it together. It was nice.
Haven't seen too many new films this year but by far La La Land has been my favourite. Such an aesthetic and lovely musical :]
If we are counting La La Land (and I think we should) it has to be that for me. Usually for me there's one or two points that let a film down, it doesn't look quite right, some acting isn't great, there's some wierd edits. La la land took so many creative risks and explored so many different genres and ways to tell a story, mixing screen and stage, and yet still managed to have nothing let it down. Not only is everything perfect, it's perfect and fresh. And it's one of the few films that has ever made me cry.
My favorite film this year was Wonder Woman because if was so empowering as a teenage girl to watch such a badass female character in action. In action movies, especially marvel and DC, the characters (particularly women) are always very oriented around the men, while Wonder Woman was such a badass individual that needed no man. Even though Steve was a hero in the end and was never forgotten, she wasn't dependent on him throughout the film
how many film themed slurps have you done now?
one.......?
i recall him doing a few older ones in 2012-2014
Panic! at the Aali I guess that answers your question
not enough
i paused stranger things for this and as usual i was not disappointed. gotta love them slurps, man
btw dunkirk was a-maaazing christopher nolan is great i love his work!
Baby driver was my favourite film of the year, as I have recently started film studies and now appreciate how Edgar wright links music to his films, I think baby driver was such a great idea and loved it, also love your videos related to film 😊
I loved Ghost in the shell, I can pause at any moment and that frame will still be great to draw from, the whole film is just so aesthetically pleasing
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 has been my fave film this year it was funny, cute & heartbreaking x
My favorite film this year was Lady Bird, I’ve never watched a movie that felt 100% genuine the whole way through
My favourite film this year was Loving Vincent! The idea to make a film only with oil paintings seems so crazy but also genius, the amount of creativity and work that went into it is simply breathtaking and the movie itself is not just beautiful to watch but also tells a very interesting story and explores the death of Van Gogh almost like a thriller
My favorite one would have to be Call Me by Your Name. I simply adore this movie, everything was so lovely, the scenery, the music, the actors, the plot...
I know it might be one of the big, obvious ones, but my favourite film was Wonder Woman. I've never even seen a DC movie before (I'm a Marvel person) and can't afford to go to the cinema a lot, but I had to see it again and show another friend because I loved it so much. It was one of those films you keep thinking about for weeks after watching it and feeling all warm inside whenever you do, just because it existed.
Also, I'm so happy PJ talked about The Big Sick! I hadn't even heard of it before a friend showed it to me recently and I loved it too. I was melting and in awe by the end credits.
I actually enjoyed La La Land. It had a great plot. As far as my favourite movie ever, Moulin Rouge would take the gold.
My favourite films this year wee Dunkirk, Detroit and definitely The Florida Project ( which you HAVE to see ). They were all such beautiful representations of the horrors, however big or small, everyday people go through. The cinematography was raw and natural, creating a realistic and emotional environment to be in. They both encoded such a sense or sorrow and hurt in me and deserve all the praise they get. Absolutely stunning
Logan was my favourite film this year because 1- I've got this weird emotional attachment to the x men, 2- Dafne Keen!! Wth she's so talented and 3- only film this year to make me cry
my favourite film this year was the new Star Wars, I went to see it with my cousin who lives rather far away and everything happened really spontaneously and both of us now associate the film with an amazing weekend trip and a really cool night in the cinema🍿
Yess i'm early and i'm so excited for this cuz i love films and my favorite film this year was Blade Runner 2049, Get out and Call me by your name.
Michelle J ohh where can i watch Call me by your name?
Hanif Zaki Anwar I have only seen the trailer lots of times and read the book but I'm sure the film will be great when I have the chance to watch it! :D escepially Armie hammer and Timothee Chalamet are there and Luca Guadagnino who directed it :)
omg me too didnt see it yet but already know itll be amazing
oh damn my country doesnt sell the book bcs you know
Hanif Zaki Anwar Bookdepository.com is your friend :D
Baby Driver was definitely my fav film this year. Beautiful written, shot and choreographed to an amazing soundtrack. Not to mention thrilling action and outstanding performances (although kevin spacey is a bummer). So creative, so original, with that awesome edgar wright flare. Everything about it was just cool. PJ if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend
My fave has to be IT. The kids’ interactions/friendship dynamic and one liners from all of them were awesome
