Sorry, These are all sold out. here are two other places I have found that sell quality blanks. Maggard Razors: www.maggardrazors.com/product/maggard-razors-ttffc-78-square-point-straight-razor-blade-only/ Knife Kits: www.knifekits.com/vcom/cut-throat-damascus-full-tang-razor-blade-p-7615.html?osCsid=clenqas6mqaqpfijuhnf4t3v25 If you find others let me know.
Another beautiful project! I used to be into straight razors until I figured out that the “grain” of my face changes directions way too much and leads to too much “tear out”. Enough mangling of my face, I decided. As amazing as this work is, I’m sure if the straight razor forums see it there would be vitriol rivaling that of what happens in sharpening debates from some folks there. Lively crowd, that lot.
Sharp looking project! Shaving your head with a straight razor? You are a brave man. I hack my face up regularly, and that's looking at what I'm doing!
James, straight razors? Where are you going, come back to us!!!! LOL, actually, this is a pretty good little side business if you can get the razors done locally at a good price.
Thanks. No there's no spacer there I looked at a whole bunch of old stock razors and very few of them did that. Most of them would just shape the inside of the body to be slightly concave. Though some did have a space for there
As everyone is saying, a great project, so enthusiastically executed by youself, with your passion and glee growing by the second ! Good luck to everyone who makes one either from your 35, or from a blade purchased elsewhere ! One question relating to the way that the blade opens and closes in the handle. It seems a fairly "free fit", and able to swing open fairly easily. Does that mean for the sake of safety, that the finished razor should be kept in a sheaf until the time that it is about to be used ? This is normal practice with tools having a sharp blade. Making a sheaf for it would indeed result in the opportunity to have a lot more fun, and to be able to use MORE Linseed oil !
Thanks Phil. Traditionally there was nothing stopping the blade from opening. it seams odd but normally it is eather in your hand or in a cabinet. For travel some people would make a sheath the whole thing would slid in, but those were rare.
I really want to do this, so I'm probably going to have to order one from one of the other places you list because I'm sure they will all be gone by the end of the month
Surprisingly that if the stropping is done right you can get it just as sharp. I have a sharpness tester and this one was around 120 Grams. most razor blades are around 150 and around 100 is as sharp as you can possibly get steel. it is not about the grit you use, but the sharpness you get.
Nice one, James. Now stretch yourself and use bone (raw, not boiled etc.) as my working razor (handed to me in the 70's by my old man) has! Held up well to my daily abuse, which is now weekly. Enjoy!
Did your meat pies just become God, that's good! that is de-, have you, -licious, ever tasted, smell such, Oh, my god, perfect, more, that's pies, such flavor, God, that's good.?

LOL I like that one. ya Strait razor people can be CRAZY picky about what the best way is.
I love that spokeshave!
That one is so much fun to play with. Miller falls are harder to find than others but so worth it.
I have one just like it. I'm experimenting with adjustments and setup to get a feel for it's capabilities. 🙂
amazing work, both woods match perfectly together
I ordered one up the other day, ready to do the build along series for this. Nice job on the handle.
This will be a fun one.
Might I suggest a wood combination, just came up with it: boxwood with ebony
Incredible build project. Love the wood selection and finished look. Excited to get my kits!!!

LOL it is a fun time!
That came out Awesome James!
Very nice I use a straight razor all the time this one looks a little bulky but not bad there's lots of different types of handles
thank you sweeney .oh that was a sharp one

It was an interesting find to come across these. I ahve found a few others that will make them but they are all $100+
I really didn't think this would be my thing, but ended up checking a lot of boxes for me. Definitely a project I could get into.
There is just something fun about it.
Awesome job James! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Nice scales. Did you add a spacer between the blade and scales at the hinge?
Thanks. No there's no spacer there I looked at a whole bunch of old stock razors and very few of them did that. Most of them would just shape the inside of the body to be slightly concave. Though some did have a space for there
@@WoodByWrightHowTo Thanks for answering. If it works, then that is what matters.

@@WoodByWrightHowTo Thanks for that informative update!
You’re taking “Woodworkers pattern baldness” to a new level. ( you know, that telltale patch of hairless forearm )
oh you know it!
Very cool!
Man, really bummed im on such a tight budget lately, doubt ill get one before they sell out. Really cool project.
Budgets suck☹
I feel you man.

Nice! It will cut, but you better hone it up to at least 8k if you want it to be smooth on your face. I hone mine up to 12k.

How much did you pay for those blades? I picked up two razors for 5 bucks while looking for tools, one that needs a handle.
You going to let Sarah give you a shave on live camera with one that you made. She would get a lot for her cocoa fund and mom jokes.
Boom - double #1
Wow. The man twice over
Love love 🤫🤫🤫

That would be fun!
Totes gonna use my padauk and ebony for this
Oh that sounds good!
Haha thats neat, HMC is the name of my school 😂 (it basicly means "Wood and Furniture Collage" only than in a diferent language)
Lol that's great.
Power tool again????😮
Lol The other method is to do it with sandpaper or slip stone over the course of around 8 to 10 hours.
31st.

Lol yep that's about right.
