    I wish I would’ve watched this video earlier. The Brazilian Starfish is the only one I have. I’ll have to get the rest next year. Growing peppers is so addictive.

      I'm with you on that, Matt. I have to grow a few new ones each year. A keeper for me this year is Aji Rico. It's a hybrid though.

    Thank you Sir, I started growing peppers during the pandemic in my apartment, now I have about 14 plants and planning getting almost all the ones you mentioned on the list, I love those plants and can't get enough of them.

    For those who want a step up in heat level, I highly recommend the Fatalii pepper. It's got a wonderful citrusy flavor that works well in many dishes. It does take a while to finish, 90 days or better, but it's worth the wait.

    Before this video i just grow normal native chili seeds and bell pepper.
    Deep in my mind I always searched for these type flavorful pepper.
    I have purchased Aji Mango from ebay after watching this.
    But I would honored if my favorite garden UA-camr open his own seed shop in ebay so that for authenticity we don't have to worry about .

    I love listening to you. Your voice reminds me of my long departed grandpa (no offense on the age). You are very calm, informative, and easy to listen to. I truly appreciate the kind of information you provide because everyone says that hot peppers have a fruity taste, when all that I taste is extreme heat and like a bitter, smokey char. Hearing what a pepper would be good for, and the actual taste is helpful.

      Thanks Debbie! I do get comments and comparisons about my voice fairly often. No offense taken on my age. I can't do anything about that or my voice :) There are lots of great peppers out there. I'm not really a hot pepper guys, but I'm learning to appreciate different pepper types and tolerate more heat than I used to. Glad you found the video to be helpful!

    All five of these are from the Baccatum species, which is no surprise. That species is wonderful and a lot of strains from it grow like these. Just crazy producers with unique flavors. Good choices.

      the Aji peppers are getting a lot more attention now that people see they can have tolerable heat plus flavor unlike the superhots which are way too hot for most

    Brasilian Starfish is my favorite. It has incredible citrus notes. Now I'm on the hunt for some other flavorful hot peppers to add to my garden.

    i grew the 'brazilian starfish' this past season and it was so prolific! so much more than my other peppers - it had an excellent spicy flavor with some great floral and fruity notes - it made great pickling peppers!
    i'll have to try out these other peppers you recommend - thanks for the videos!

      Nice! The Aji Pineapple was very spice to my taste buds. Some were a little too hot for me. But it is really nice to have peppers that have some actual flavor rather than just heat.

      You're welcome, Olya! Some peppers have heat, but not much flavor. With these, you get that burst of flavor before the heat takes over. I grew the Brazilian Starfish again this year, and it is now 6 feet tall.

    My limit is Anaheims, so I'm a pepper wimp, but these sure are pretty. I'm thinking of growing a few red ornamentals in pots toward the end of the summer to give as Christmas gifts. i keep my house cool (53 degrees F), so I put my seeds in last week. It'll take 3 weeks at my temps for them to germinate, even with a heat mat and T5 bulb an inch from the soil. Winter is half over! -- Wendy

      That's a pretty cool idea with the ornamental peppers as gifts. I will probably be planting some peppers about the middle of this month, and some tomatoes toward the end of the month. I already have a few micro tomatoes growing, just to keep me entertained till warmer weather gets here. Things will be gearing up very soon.

    I just got into different peppers about a year ago and I ordered some Brazilian starfish seeds and it is hands down my favorite pepper. I can't find another pepper like it. To me slightly hotter than a jalapeno, but the flavor is just amazing.

    Really love those types. Some of the good hot kinds that have to be tried to understand. The heat on most those is hot but non threatening. Especially away from the seeds. Going to be a unique grow year again. I can feel it. The momentum has me and Angel fixated and distracted like a squirrel that has seen something shiny. LOL The A. Mango/Pineapple are the only 2 I haven't tried but those Ajis are a super good type. Might have mentioned it but got a pod we are going to try seeds from on one called the Aji Crystal. The heat on it is suppose to be way down and would be interesting to try. Hoping it carries the unique flavor of the others and more snackable. All just contenders in our yard 'Thunderdome' to see what makes it though. LOL Those were some powerful plants you had last year. Thanks for the share!

    This video was very well done and accurately articulated . I have grown 3 of the peppers on this list . Just started the Sugar Rush Peach , The Brazilian Starfish is awesome and I look forward to adding these to my salads this summer , the Hungarian Hot Wax is hot but very flavorful I just now started those as well .
    Here is one that is not on your list that is DEFINITELY a must grow and must have all the time for me , The MAD HATTER PEPPER much nicer and bigger than the Brazilian Starfish .

    What I did end up ordering was Buena Mulata , Oda, & Sugar Rush Peach from Baker Creek. All of which I’ve never grown yet. I have limited space with already many hot peppers overwintering in the garden. I actually hope new ones don’t grow as big as Yours, as it would be a conundrum to see where they fit in My small garden. But I do so love making fermented hot sauce & pickled peppers from the garden. Thank You for such interesting & informative videos Friend!😀🌱

    Thanks for sharing your list :) This year did start only Serrano and Jalapeno (Craigs Grande). Never tasted any of them before, as well as Salsa that I am planning to do this year :) I absolutely agree with you about "just hot peppers without any flavor although not many varieties are grown here so next year will try some of these from your list I hope :) Thanks again.

      If you try any of these, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the flavor of them. I know that I was. You can't go too wrong with the old dependable Jalapeno. I usually end up buying a few of those during the winter.

      @@MidwestGardener may i ask you for something? im looking for rare or special flavours, guess just like you.. what except lemon, peach and chocolate did you find? i bought me a 7pot bubblegum but its so hot i cant taste anything lol.. maybe i need to backcross it with a milder one with no taste.. i really dont know, i really want a special flavour to cross some aji charapitas with..

      @@felixmikolai7375 Well, I'm growing Sugar Rush Cream this year. I hear that it is extra sweet, but it will be a while before I know exactly how that ones tastes. From my limited experience, most of the Aji peppers have more taste than many other peppers that I've tried. Most peppers have heat with little flavor.

    Tbh i prefer anuum type peppers, the hot chili pepper flavor without other complexities i dont like. For some reason the peppers that people often describe as "smokey, fruity and floral" smell like body odor and something rotten but that taste is mild enough and mostly overpowered by heat so i can still use them in cooking, i guess its one of those things like how some people don't like certain herbs

      Yep, I think it's just a personal preference type of thing. Some of the peppers with interesting taste to me are just too hot except for use for cooking. In my breeding projects, I use mostly annuum peppers.

    Have you grown the Padrón pepper? I’ve grown nursery Padrón plants in fabric pots. Most were mild with an occasional hot one. I planted a couple Shishito peppers, but they’re rather bland and very small compared to the ones in your Shishito video, so I might try another source for seeds. By the way, what dwarf tomatoes are you going to grow this summer? I’m going to try dwarf tomatoes but need to find a variety that will set fruit in the desert heat. Thanks for the great videos!

      I haven't grown that one, but I will have to check into it. Thanks for the tip, I'm always looking for new types to try. I'm growing several types of dwarf tomatoes next year. A few of them will be Sleeping Lady, Rosella Purple, and Dwarf Purple Heart. I'm not sure how any of them will do in the heat though.

      @@MidwestGardener I'm in 10a so I battle with summer heat. Tried shade cloth last with limited success. I mostly grow in a mix of plastic and fabric containers. Could you possibly share some of your secrets for containers like soil mix or tips? Thanks in advance!

      @@gforcekaras I don't really have any secrets. I mostly use soil that I buy, or a mix of used soil, homemade compost, and a little fertilizer if I think it needs it. I do use some fabric grow bags, and I have found that those use a lot more water when it gets really hot.

    Very good top ,5 list video but the only pepper I fine is under rated in heat scale is the lemon drop I fine it around 150 thousand to 170 on the heat scale

      Interesting. I had a similar experience with Aji Pineapple. They seemed to be a lot hotter than I've read.

    Do you sell seeds? I would love to try the Aji Pineapple and Aji Mango. I didn’t have good luck with the sugar rush peach last year. They were prolific but never ripened. I live in the KCMO area and know of another grower, in Olathe that had the same issue. They stayed green, sometimes a sick cream color but never peach. By the time they were cream colored the inside would be rotten. I had great success with the lemon drop peppers and they are my favorite now. They make delicious popper dip and are really good pickled. I also loved growing Aji Charapita. One tiny little pearl in a bowl of chili is so tasty! Thank you for the review.

      Sorry but I don't sell seeds. I know that Baker Creek used to sell Aji Pineapple. You probably had a spring there like we had here. It was so wet and cool that it threw all of our garden about a month behind. That pepper dip sounds pretty good.

      Midwest Gardener the sugar rush peach peppers I grew came also from Baker Creek. I gave the extras away. Might try again with seeds from another source. We did have that kind of spring last year. But all the other peppers I grew did great.

    I think I might like to try the sugar rush Peach. I don't know if I should though. Nobody else in my family really likes heat and I don't if it gets too hot.

      I'm thinking that the Sugar Rush Peach might be hotter than you would like. Once in a while if I stay out of the seeds, they aren't too bad, but if you get any seeds they are pretty hot compared to a Jalapeno.

    It's just a shame I couldn't buy a brazillian starfish in the philippines, and while i could buy internationally the costs pile up due to having to secure international shipping plus permits from the government including a phytosanitary permit.
    I also wanted to get an aji mango, and a local supplier had that but they were sold out. Got some aji lemon seeds though, and I hope they sprout.

      Good luck with your Aji Lemon seeds! Any of the Aji type peppers are a good choice in my opinion. They are hot, but they do have great flavor.

      Yes, I've had peppers cross in my garden before. You won't even know it happened until you save the seeds and grow them the next year. Then you will notice because they will look different than the mother plant. Hot peppers could me milder, and sweet peppers could be hot. That is what happened with my Oda hybrids. The seeds came from an Oda pepper, but they are hot instead of sweet.

      I think it's made from pimento peppers, but it can be made for other types too.

      In that photo there were two different types of purple pepper. One was Oda, which is a very dependable sweet pepper in our garden. The other was Buena Mulata, which is a hot pepper.

    Good morning! Those are some beautiful peppers. I'm a little scared of the sugar rush peach, so I'm going to try the sugar rush cream instead. I'm growing lemon drop, cayenne for the deer, santa fe grande, alma paprikas, and poblanos and that's it for hot peppers for us. My youngest likes to eat peppers straight off the bush, so I'm going to grow sweet bananas, corbacis, bells, odas, and a couple other sweet hybrids I've been saving seed from. Your videos on the corbacis got me groiwng those last year and they were amazingly productive. Thank you for the work you do.

    Sugar Rush Peach are amazing, my only problem is it takes FOREVER for them to ripen.
    I'm in South Jersey.
    I use an extensive trellis and train them to be bushy. They produce a lot.
    Starfish are really good and produce a ton!

    Hi Jim! Those colorful peppers will make for fantastic Instagram pictures - I love the colors. Also, grandma used to have loaded pepper plants. To prevent the peppers from touching the ground, she would take a small branch from a tree that has a little v at the end (so, more like a Y shaped one), stick it in the ground and let the plant rest on it - flip one of the top peppers over the “v”. Fantastic peppers you grow Jim!!!

      Thanks Sasha! That was a pretty neat trick your Grandma used to use. My grandparents used to do something similar with their apple trees when they had too many apples on them. If they didn't, the deer would eat all the low hanging ones. They would eat the fallen ones anyway, along with the other critters.

    I grew Sugar Rush Peach last season. It made great pepper jelly. Question do you top you hot or sweet pepper plants?

      I usually top most of my pepper plants. I'm not sure the Aji pepper would really need it though, because they really bush out well. I'm going to keep that pepper jelly in mind.....thanks!

    Those with a lower tolerance can use peppers like this is a stew or spaghetti sauce etc by keeping the pepper whole and unbroken and checking the heat level frequently. Perhaps wrapping it up in cheese cloth will help to keep the pepper whole.
