I never really did because from the start, I had a feeling that the paint wasn't good for them..I never really understood why people sell these, they aren't safe for the little crabs.
I bought a hermit crab with a paint shell. I felt so bad for him as soon as put him in the tank. He was a lot bigger than my other hermit crabs. He was a large when all my other ones are small to medium. He tried to immediately jump ship. I had to hurry and throw some bigger shells in there because I knew he wanted out of his shell. Came back then minutes later and he was in another shell. I removed the painted shell and threw it away.
Those shells aren’t correctly shaped for Purple Pincers, which is what most people in the States have. You’ll want to look for Mexican Turbos, snakeskin turbos, Jade turbos and petholatus shells! Unpainted and unlaquered are best! They also now dremmel designs into the shells, which are fine for hermit crabs as there’s no chemicals involved!

Yes! You should always have at least 3 or 4 extra shells available for each hermit crab you have so they can choose which one they like. I've gotten crabs with painted shells and they usually switch over to the natural shells within the first few days!
Broken/damaged/cut/scraped Plastic = bad chemicals being leached out into the surrounding areas. It’s why plastic tupperware and other plastic items say to discard once scratched or damaged.

@@Duckiee64 they did not buy it with the intention of doing something funny, and they probably did it without knowing, they're just laughing at their own waste of money because they aren't gonna use the thing at all after watching this video
