  • Are you tired of worrying about the safety of your table saw? Look no further than the SawStop CTS!
    The SawStop CTS is a revolutionary table saw that uses advanced technology to detect when your fingers or other body parts come into contact with the saw blade. When it senses contact, it immediately shuts off the saw and retracts the blade, preventing serious injury.
    But the SawStop CTS is more than just a safety feature. It also boasts powerful motor and precision cutting capabilities, making it a top choice for professional woodworkers and DIY enthusiasts.

    Hey Ron, convince me this saw isn't OEM built by Dewalt. The aluminum table and molding marks on the side, the fence system, and a number of other telltale signs point to this being a new improved version of a Dewalt 7480/744 which I have and love. Not that it's a bad thing at all since you have Dewalt experience and know the differences.

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  Рік тому +4

      I assure you Dewalt has nothing to do with SawStop. SS is owned by TTS Tooltechnic Systems who also owns Festool, Shaper, Tanos, Narex and about 40 other companies. They make their own tools. Makita track is a very close copy of the FT track, but FT doesn't make them for Makita.

    Thanks for sharing, Ron! I've been enjoying my SawStop CTS but am still trying to figure out what dust collection setup to use. I have a Ridgid shop vac as well as Festool CT MIDI and I continue to debate what type of separator to get - whether that's a Dust Deputy for my very loud Ridgid vac, or the Festool separator for the CT MIDI, which would be practical for my other Festool tools. Analysis paralysis!!!

      I wish like seat belts and airbags in autos, brake technology was required by law. I am uncomfortable using a table saw without a brake. I remember when we didn't wear seat belts and then it became the law and we grumbled constantly. Now, when I get behind the wheel, I put on the seat belt immediately, I am uncomfortable without it. I have noticed that I avoid using my Dewalt TS as it doesn't have a brake.

      @@TheSmartWoodshop I wholeheartedly agree, Ron. I do feel sawstop could have saved many fingers and made much more money by licencing their patents but that's up to them I guess. Their saws are a quality item though even if at a premium price. Thanks for the reply.

    I now have both the CTS and the Jobsite and find the CTS to be as solid as a rock compared to the Jobsite. Yes it has a couple of limitations, however it holds its settings and gives a more consistent cut. It's only real negative is it's flimsy, not flat fence and the inability to adjust it 90* to the table. That said, those things can be overcome. I only wish the stand had wheels.

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  Рік тому +3

      🤔My experience with the Jobsite and CTS are exactly 180 degrees from yours. The JSPro is the best table saw I have ever owned and the best fence by far. It has never gone out of alignment even getting moved regularly. I like the CTS, but it isn't on parr with the JSP. That being said, I am switching to the CTS for its small size. I think the CTS is the best in its class and the only one with safety brake so I don't have a 2nd best unless I want to go bigger.

    • @derekcharles3515
      @derekcharles3515 Рік тому

      @@TheSmartWoodshop Ron, I agree with you on the JS Pro fence being better than the CTS rack and pinion. Set the JS Pro on its side, then bring it back up and check the blade 90* adjustment with your good square. If the blade holds 90*, I'll trade JS Pros with you. 😉

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  Рік тому +1

      @@derekcharles3515, I will make a video at some point. I checked mine with my TSO square about two weeks ago when I made the CTS video for the first time ever and it was 90. I have never adjusted it and it has been on its side many times.

    • @derekcharles3515
      @derekcharles3515 Рік тому +1

      @@TheSmartWoodshop Your very fortunate. SS engineers said that they tested their JSS Pros and found the same issue, however the fine adjust will allow you to reset the 90*, of course that's every time one brings the saw out. Fortunately, I don't think the CTS suffers from this.

  • @garyp1945ify

    I watch your channel all the time, respect your opinion a lot. I have a very small workshop (9' x 18') and I'm contemplating either the CTS or the JSS, that said I've never used my dado set that I still have in the box, so going to the JSS seems like a lot of $$ for just that. Not sure about the saw stand, probably want to build a good one for the saw & outfeed. Your thoughts if you have a chance. thanks

  • @derekcharles3515
    @derekcharles3515 Рік тому +1

    Good vid. I’d like to know. About table flatness and whether the blade holds its 90 degrees after the saw is tilted on its side, then returned.

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  Рік тому +2

      I will be checking it as I go. It has been moved around 20+ times in the past two days including setting it on its side, turning it upside down, etc.. and holding true so far.

  • @samhklm
    @samhklm Рік тому +2

    What was the device that attached to the blade to determine angle? Also do you trust this device more or the TSO to determine 90 degrees?

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  Рік тому +2

      I used a Klein digital gauge amzn.to/3sMMsf1 It works well but do sensitive any vibrations causes it to jump around about .2 degrees. I like the square better for making adjustment unless I am going for an angle other than 90 degrees. I am confident that if the the blade is 90 or 0 when hitting its stop then I trust the other angles.

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  Рік тому +1

      It did not. I did show in the video when I pushed down on the fence when fully extended it had acceptable deflection that does not affect the saw usage and accuracy.

  • @RonHutcherson-hj3rx
    @RonHutcherson-hj3rx Рік тому

    I appreciate your first impression. I am thinking of upgrading my current Dewalt jobsite saw I have had about 7 years. The fence no longer locks in place. I have been using clamps to keep it where I need it which accuracy suffers. Do you think the Sawstop is far better than purchasing another compact/portable saw?

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  Рік тому +1

      The quality is there and will match or exceed any small portable table saw. For me, #1 is the brake. If it doesn't have a break then it doesn't make the list. There are only 2 portable table saws that have a brake and both are SawStop. I have both and no question the Jobsite Pro is the best, but it is big and heavy. #2 on my list is size and weight. The CTS wins so if I were getting one today for myself the CTS is the only choice.
