City of 1000 stairs: Walking tour of magnificent Šibenik, Croatia

Šibenik has a rich history, unique historical center and beautiful landscape. It is one of the oldest native Croatian cities on the Adriatic, the capital and cultural, educational, administrative and economic center of Šibenik-Knin County. It has a population of 37,060.
During our walk we will climb many stairways of the city streets and get a look into the cozy corners of Sibenik, as well as we will see the amazing sights of it like:
- St. James Cathedral (Croatian: Katedrala sv. Jakova) - a unique white-stone Catholic cathedral of the XV century, a joint masterpiece of two of the most famous Croatian medieval architects and sculptors - Juraj Dalmatinac and Nikolaj Fiorentinac. The cathedral is built entirely of solid stone blocks and is decorated with 74 heads, portraits of Juraj Dalmatinac's contemporaries. In 2000 UNESCO included the cathedral in the list of world cultural heritage.
- The town hall building - in Renaissance style (16th century) with beautiful arcades.
- St. John’s Fortress - it is located on top of a hill north of Sibenik's old town, at 115 meters above sea level. There is a beautiful view of the city with its orange roofs and St. Michael's Fortress there. St. John’s Fortress was built in record time, through August and September 1646.
