  • Showing up to arguably the hottest race of the year (shortened to 54 miles because of the heat historically) without any prep for long efforts was a gamble. I think I made it work though!

    Really appreciate you adding the overlay, and the map blow up was awesome. And the captions/flash pics really adds to the feel as a viewer, keep up the work and congrats on the win

    The Heat Index at Noon for the Holly Shelter Weather Station (Econet Station managed by the N.C. State Climate Office) read 118 F. You came in hotter than the coastal dew point.

    Was talking to Isaac on Tuesday about his "ME" team, he was super disappointed that I haven't seen Talladega Nights 🤣. Newer guy Jon Drozd is one of my good buddies and I can confirm that he didn't even know about Holly Shelter until a few days before and sent it 😎. Great race, heard that was a brutal day!

    My USWE Race Pro still had ice at the end riding the short course. I felt bad for those without water on the long course.
    My rear derailleur jammed twice on Juniper Rd. due to my longer cage eating the tall grass. I might have to rethink equipment/strategy for next year.

      That's wild about the derailleur, what kind was it?

      @@williamrhardin It's a 12 speed Deore with a 51 tooth dinner plate. It has a noticeably lower clearance.

    Next year I'm bringing bottles and USWE. Juniper Rd was HORRIBLE!

    1:45 guy in pink in front is really bouncing in his saddle. Too high?

      @williamrhardin  7 днів тому +2

      Maybe a little, could be hip flexor too, early in the morning so no one was really that warmed up and flexible

      @sigfreed11 Good eye! First thing I noticed when I watched Will's footage. "Is holy crap I'm seriously bouncing on my saddle!" Will's correct it's from not being warmed up properly and turning a 105-110 rpm cadence (should have downshifted). I spent my "warmup time" clearing the exit point of the downed tree 4:06 once I learned that the RD didn't do it the prior afternoon due to the heat. Exit was a serious pinch point 3-4' wide covered with 5" diameter limb sections strewn through the tall grass. OTB day enders for sure. Shortened as many of smaller limbs by hand as possible, would have packed a handsaw had I known. Our group (just behind Will) went through it 3 wide shoulder to shoulder like a gravel crit race lol. Zero crashes reported at that spot fortunately!
