I was literally just about to write that comment... You beat me to it! I hate it when fish store workers chase poor fish around so much they're nearly dead by the time they're in the bag.
Counter-intuitive, pure genius. Thanks again, Father Fish, for increasing my brain cell count! ❤❤❤ Sometimes, I can use a clear plastic disposable cup to gently scoop up fry and smaller fish that swim up to the surface. They don't even know that they are caught - totally stress-free to the fish.
I learned this the hard way last week. After stressing and frustrating myself, I decided to buy a bigger net and did the same thing and it did works. No disturb or destroying anything. Additionally, I developed a new technique after the failure I experience before which using bait. First I made a DIY transparent feed circle using the transparent tube that used for bubble machine, tied it with some tiny rope so I can pull it to any direction I want. Secondly, I taught the fishes to eat in that circle. Then, everytime I want to catch fish, I will put the net under the feed circle and put the food inside the feed circle. Once they come up to eat, I will wait until the fish I want to catch come up and eat. Then, once he/she did, I just simply move up the net and I catch it. This method will also end up catching some other fishes that I dont want sometimes. But its okay. I can easily put them back.
If they're small (juveniles) and in an uncluttered tank you can catch them by dunking a cup. After it's out, any size fish can flop around and escape your net if you are not careful.
I accidentally caused the tragic death of a zebra loach once by chasing it all over the quarantine tank with a little net (I also swore a lot and had to remove almost everything else from the tank in order to catch it). Did I mention that I swore a lot? It was really a lot.
Always we can learn something! Indeed, quiet approaching with bigger net = less stress to fish. Catching by hand works perfect with guppies, I confirm.
When I moved, I had to net out my five kuhli loaches. It was an absolute nightmare with the net I have. Thanks for video! I'll have to get one of those.
hello father fish I am from India and here now winter season has started, now your video is being watched the most, can you make a detailed video on this such as heaters for planted aquarium food light...
May I ask what kind of white marker did you use to write the names of the fIshes? Do they not easily come off with a sponge when it gets chilly? I got a marker but it easily comes off when the temperature drops in the fishroom😅
The conventional wisdom is the tank mates cannot also be bettas or other territorial fish. Likely good choices would be schooling fish that are smaller than the betta, and plenty of plants and obstacles to chasing.
Father Fish, what method of catching do you recommend for Ancistrus ? Net is very dangerous for them, may cause injuries. I keep onlly few of them, catch them only in rare occasions (give them medicine, taking to veterinarian). I chase them a bit until fish jumps into their clay tube . Then l take fish with tube out of water and let the fish go to prepared earlier jar. It works but is this good? And what about aquarist who have plenty of Ancistrus fish? In advance, thank you sir for replying. Or maybe video?
Hi Father Fish, I have been having a problem my betta seems like it got really fat and it’s red color changed to white another think I noticed is that my betta has been having difficulty breathing and is not swimming around as much like he used to. Do you know what might be happening with my betta? . And do you have any suggestions so I can fix this problem.Thank You Have A Great Day,God Bless You.
I couldn't catch my white skirt Tetras with a fish net, finally gave up. Finally I took the net breeding box I have and removed it from it's frame, now just a net with a hole in it. Caught them in 20 seconds! I held it in the tank and they swam in as I moved it toward the glass, no problemo.
I remember years ago i had 2 chinese algae eaters. Once they got bigger they became very annoying towards other fish and i wanted to get rid of them. They were absolutely impossible to catch in a full tank. I had to lower the water volume to maybe 20% water left to be able to catch them and even had to use 2 nets (1 to chase them towards the other larger net). Tried to do it calm and slow at first, tried to lure them in the net in many possible ways... Those were really the most annoying fish to catch, very very fast. I never ever had chinese algae eaters again. I don't recommend them to anyone, imagine having those in a very huge tank, then you're doomed...
This should be a required training video for all fish store workers. Thanks for sharing Father Fish!

Father Fish got the moves 🤣🤣
Dexterity!
I asked this very question when you did fish shop tour couple weeks back - and you more than answered!
Thanks , now I know I need a much bigger net.
Father Fish fascinates us everytime! Been struggling with some fast barbs and will try it like this.

Bloody brilliant 👍
I like traps. For some fish in some conditions it is the best option

Father Fish can catch the fish with chopsticks. Wait! That was Mr Miyagi!
Great technique! Thank you

Love the editing on this. Thank you for the knowledge
Excellent tip, saves the little fish getting stressed needlessly
I'm cracking up here at the one minute mark. Love you Father Fish!
You got lots of experience, very nice tutorial. The larger net makes it easier on you and the fish.
This isn't your first rodeo 😅

I need one of those nets for gathering fish in the wild too! Actually one with a longer handle would be good.
I never even thought about this, thank you
In my nets i always do a horse neck or a s in the handle near the net, tha way the net stay "glue" to the glass 😊
Thanks for another great video.😊

Not the subject of the video, but I can't help but notice how nice and healthy that watersprite looks!
Great video. Thank you very much.
That's great.
Now I will order a bigger net.
Thank you, I needed this....
always net fish during a large water change. makes it a lot easier as there is less water in the tank.
Great pro tip

Thats very cool, but I find a rod and reel to be more fun.
Thanks
What about a fish trap? Any thoughts on that?
Much love from Gdansk Poland❤

White Sharpie. Scrape off with razor.
How can you keep Bettas in a tank with many fish?

100% how I catch also. My largest are 5.5 gal and my net is half the size of his.
😅 You hit the cat. Lol
I use a clear container. The fish barely notice it.
So common to see small nets 😮 even on you tube channels

A tiny net, Chosen One's greatest weakness.
True but father fish you r so funny 😂
Facts
Small nets have a place; breeder boxes and very small tanks.

I could never catch my black neon tetras. Those suckers are fast and furious and I always end up with nothing 🤣
So the flat 90 degree corner and a long net 🤔❤
Nice
I have never seen a net of that size in any fish store near me.
What if it’s an mbuna tank filled with limestone?
same process. basic rule with fast fish is go slow.
I use my tiny net to spook a fish into a clear cup that I angle and slowly pick it up. Your way is better though.
I learned this the hard way
Super
You can’t do that in an acrylic tank, because of the large lip. That’s the only thing that I don’t like about my acrylic tank.

Even in a 5 gallon with plants.
Excellent video!
It appears that I bought a toy. =(
🌟🌟🌟🌟
do you practice karate?!
I do not practice. Every act is my final effort.
😂😂😂😂
common sense
