Amidst the chaos, we decided to upgrade our van set up! We are not full-time van lifers but we LOVE having an adventure vehicle so we can travel/hike/climb/mountain bike/ski/snowboard/ALL THE THINGS and do so on our terms. We have had a customer built ford transit connect xlt for the last few years and about a month ago made the decision to upgrade to this Ram ProMaster 2500 High Roof 136-inch wheelbase van.
Thanks to our friends of at Dave and Matt Vans ( / @dm-vans ) we drove home yesterday with the ultimate adventure van with a super versatile design that will meet all our adventure needs! I highly recommend you check out the van builder on their website (www.dmvans.com....
In this vlog/tour, we give you a full tour of the van and all of its features on the day of the purchase (meaning no personal touches... yet!). For all of you out there who are a fan of my dog Tabor she gets some major screen time in this video- ENJOY!
P.s. We would love your help naming it! Put your suggestions down in the comments below :)
Don't forget to hit that like button and subscribe to my channel so you don't miss any of the adventures!

It’s my dream to one day live in a van down by the river, seriously!! Thanks for the inspiration. The new van looks AWESOME!!
Aw thank you so much!! And that sounds like the dream!!
Would like to see old van.
Just posted :)
Beautiful dog
thank you!
Lot of metall parts without recovery...not good for the condensation, you see
not sure what you mean but so far that hasn't been an issue because the double fan creates great airflow and circulation
I'm glad you explained that was a refrigerator! When you first opened the door to the back of the van I thought, why would you want a printer in a van?! Hah!
haha the ultimate home office on wheels? just kidding! It's supposed to be a very energy-efficient fridge. I'm stoked to finally have one!
Van name: Gypsy, since you got it in Gypsum!
That's a fun suggestion! :)
Looks like a Lily to me! :)
Thanks for the rec! We still haven't decided lol
Great video showcasing the van. One of my favorite layouts so far - it’s nice and simple, which is exactly what I would want. I like the idea of a cassette toilet or bucket for when there’s not another option. If your sink is close enough to the window, maybe you can put a sprayer nozzle and have the option to spray outside through the window for a shower. I’d love to see another video once you have it outfitted to your liking! Thanks for posting this!
You totally could do that shower option! The window behind it opens all the way- such a cool idea!
Bathrooms.... Big debate. If you go compostring, get some soft wood pellets (for a pellet stove) and use this instead of saw dust. No dust everywhere, and they absorb odors. (Can also be used for cat litter.)
Looks like no shower, so lots of options. Have fun deciding.
Great idea!
Yes! Please do a tour of your old van, I am considering picking up one of those vans, and I have a couple buddies with that van as well. I'm sure they would appreciate the van inspiration too!
omg so exciting! ok, I will! Probably not next week but in the next month I will make it happen for sure! It's such a good van- it was hard to decide to shift to something bigger because the little van was so fun!
Old van tour is live :)
Yes! Show the old van please! I just got mine and need help 😅
Omg congrats! And will do- before we hand over the keys we’ll do a little tour vid 😆
old van tour is live :)
Have fun on your adventures! I also have a ProMaster 2500. (I'm retired and a full-timer.) It's more built out than yours but that's because I live in it. I bought it used 6 months ago and so far I'm loving it! I have a Playberg non-electric, waterless, portable toilet I bought from Home Depot. It has a removable waste pail that I line with 2 plastic bags. My van has a special spot for it; you could probably store one under the bed. I also have a Green Elephant utilitent (bought on Amazon), depending on where I'm camping I can set it up and put the toilet in it. I think you're really going to enjoy your van.
Thanks so much for the rec! There’s so many toilet options it feels a bit overwhelming! Any other “must haves” for your van that you think we should look into?
@@ArielleShipe One thing I find handy is an electric kettle. I got mine at Walmart, it holds 1.7 liters of water. I can heat water for a sponge bath, washing dishes or anything I'd need hot water for without using the microwave. I have solar panels, no propane, and didn't like using so much energy just to heat water. The kettle works great. I bought a collapsible basin with handles (looks like a dish pan) that I use for washing up, shampooing my hair, etc. It doesn't take up much room under the sink when it's collapsed. Got it at REI. I lined the shelves and drawers with bubble wrap; keeps most things from sliding around and keeps the noise down when you're driving. Everything rattling around drove me nuts! I'll try to think of other things you might find useful. I really like that "trough" you have behind the sink...wish I had one!
I am a big fan of the Luggable Loo. Easy to clean, easy to add your choice of “filler” and it seals tight so no stinkies after use. Oh and the price is right!
It took me a second te realize you were talking about a toilet! hahah thanks for the rec!!
Bookmarking that swivel table! I love that it can be moved to that stool/storage cube near the bed.
one of my favorite features! I was debating a table/bed conversation set up in the back but you lose soooo much storage so I love that this makes the front seats functional interior space too. I can't wait to see what you get and nerd out together haha
Like the layout! Looks like a lot of fun in your future. How wide is the bed??
Thank you! We are so stoked- the bed is about the width of the full-size bed but a little shorter... maybe like 5'8"-5'10" ish :)
If you do get a toilet just use it to Pee and #2 in a biodegradable bag and dispose of as the emergency comes up. A funnel or a shewee with a tube going through the floor is also good for Pee on the run. For a #2 emergency you can get a bucket with a lid and inside have wipes cat litter bio bags and a noodle sliced along its length to place it on the bucket rim to use as a seat. the bucket itself can have its lid made into a padded seat and use as a spare seat. Happy Camping
such good ideas! thanks for sharing!
I was just wondering why not another Ford Transit instead of a ProMaster or were there a lot of issue with a Ford Transit
Promasters are front-wheel drive and unless you convert the transit to 4x4 with quigly or buy a 2020 all-wheel-drive version the Transit's are rear wheel. My transit connect was front-wheel drive and it was so helpful for the kind of adventures we do :)
How cool :D We have also just bought a van!
Omg congrats! What did you get?
@@ArielleShipe A VW Crafter (standard length, highest roof).
Toilet is a must have for me!
😂❤️
Loving the content guys. keep it up
thank you so much!
Ok, I'm getting one of these! You convinced me.
yay! Vans are the best!
Let's tour the old van too
Ok cool! Before we hand over the keys I’ll make it happen 😆
I didn't get it. You only ha d a bed. Where is the stove/burner? Where is the toilet and shower?
Congrats on being able to stand in your rig! We're 2 years full time without a toilet in the van. We've learned that Nalgene bottles work good for evening activities. We've found that toilets are fairly easy to come by (pre-covid) and we do have a Home Depot bucket that rarely gets used for emergencies/no privacy places.
I've been doing the "pee bottle" thing for a few years now too and its been totally fine not having anything more special. Definitely tempted now that we have more space though!
We bought our van over two years ago and are just now finally able to build it! 😊
Yay! that's so exciting! What kind of van is it?
@@ArielleShipe we have a 2016 transit extended high roof!
She is clearly a guy. His name should be Woody
Hahah why is it clearly a guy? I'm still feeling she's a she :)
@@ArielleShipe because the wood is masculine
Nice! We bought Campervan Kevin’s Promaster and are in the process of making it our own. Great ideas in this van of yours thanks for sharing!! Looking forward to more videos!
Congrats on the new rig!
Arielle Shipe thanks! Hope you don’t mind us using your ideas.
I would go with a cassette toilet. Seems easy to empty from what I seen in other videos. Use for number one only if possible.
Heck yea! That is very exciting! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it by adding your personal touch!
Aw thank you! We are excited to really make it our own!
YES, YES, YES! Please show your old van.
just posted :)
Yes
I've read most log the coments, good ones and not so. You replied to most, in always a positive light ❤️ hearted way.. Your a respectful person. Keep wearing your MASK when going into businesses and have sanitizer with you while pumping fuel. Your living proof of Kindness.
aw thank you! you are so sweet :)
Great vlogging. Clear, concise and quick. Thanks. Cute doggy too. I just yesterday upgraded from a cargo van to a long passenger van that had been partially converted to a camper. Super high roof extension and flooring already done. Moving in it today! It'll be so very wonderful to stand up!!!!!
Omg yay! Congrats on the new rig!
Love your new van!! This is such a dream of mine. Your channel looks amazing, definitely got a new subscriber here :) can’t wait to see your new adventures.
Aw thank you so much! And welcome to the family! So excited for summer adventures!
So you got the cheapest at $86,000?
Did you do a tour of your old van? Would love to see it.
I’m interested in getting something like this too that ready to use (pre-built). Can you give a ballpoint how much the van cost?
Im guessing 20k or 30k...
Kyle Vuong I went to the website where they bought it and it’s listed under the vans for sale as sold. It was listed around $43,000. These things are not inexpensive...
This van only had 15k miles on it so it was in the 40k range built out but you can definitely find something with more miles for less money if that's what you are looking for :)
Where do your clothes go?
We ordered a little drawer system but for now we've just been living out of our duffle bags- we do not live in the van full-time
can you live long term for a short period in the small ford transits? you had a really good set up
Totally! Many people live in set ups even more simple that ours! :)
Does your pup just roam around in the van while you drive? I'm dreaming of van travel but want to factor in pups to the plan!
Her favorite spot is the front seat but sometimes she lays down behind the front seat too 😊
Yes I'd like to see the old van
Ok cool! I’ll make it happen before we hand over the keys!
Thx for sharing. Does the storage bench box move, or is it secured in place?
secured in place :)
yes please! Tour of smaller Van. Needing ideas.
just posted! :)
Our van bed is counter height, so we put in a bed extender of 21 inches. This let's us sleep on a 70 x 75 inch bed.
We also put in 1 shelf in the garage. We have space for a bvq and a fire pit (lots of fire bans where we go). The shelf is 24 inches deep so there is lots of space for taller stuff.
Super smart - sounds like you have an awesome setup! 🙌🏼
Dave&Matt are awesome......Welcome to the ProMaster team 💪🏾
they are such good humans! And thank you! So excited to be a part of them fam!
"Woody" because all the great wood accents. Enjoy your new Van
That's the second suggestion for that name! I'll add it to our list of considerations :)
What was the device to keep the draws closed ? You talk pretty fast . Lol .
Just good old fashion Velcro 😊
That’s a really nice one. Cause it’s clean and simple not cluttered.
Thank you! :)
Yes please!! Old van tour! Love seeing functionality in a smaller van..
just posted :)
Thank you!
Is that new van 4x4…
I love it and could use it right now!
:)
Harry ,seriously I love the van
Thank you so much!
Yesss please do a video of the old van!!! ❤️
just posted :)
Snapy Van
Yes on a toilet! We have a small Dometic portable in our van. It tucks away in a cabinet or in the garage area. We mostly just use it at night. No deuces, just pee. It's super easy to empty. You can find one for $100 so if you don't like it you haven't spent much.
Toilet would be necessary for me. 😂
😂❤️
Hi Arielle, new subscriber here. I have 6 months to decide what used van or RV I want to get, then I’m going to put my favorite household items in storage & take off from NJ to AZ, NM, CO etc with no timeline, just living on the road, perhaps joining a caravan.
Once I tire of that, I will decide where to settle down for the rest of my life. Btw, I’m a senior citizen & ur video was suggested by YT since I’m doing my research. I love ur older tiny van build but tbh, it is too small. If I don’t go with buying a used Class C from Cruise America, I’ll be looking into what u have bc I think that is a great build for me. It would also be my daily driver once I set up a home base in FL, TN, or elsewhere.
Did you ever have a relative in NJ, Charles Shipe? I worked with him, such a great guy.
Hmmm, suggestions for names... How about O’Vanessy as a generic name giving homage to Ophelia by the “O”. This could be the whole name or a last name. You could make it gender specific by adding a female first name such as Olivia (nickname could be Livvy) or Olympia (from Mt Olympus given ur a hiker, etc). Male names Oliver, Ollie, Olly, Oscar, Could also use nicknames as Vanny or Vannie, or Nessy coming from the O’Vanessy. LOL, sorry, I’m overthinking this. You have a connection to yoga too so could name...Om O’Vanessy!
Good luck & great adventures. If u want to watch some videos from a You Tuber that just completed the PCT, check out channel CAROLYN’S RV LIFE. Cheers, Mo in NJ
Would love to see a tour of the old van!!
just posted :)
Definitely want to see the tour of the little van
It’s posted as the next video in my library ☺️
A picture is worth a thousand words...
Agreed :)
Ruby
what a beauty!
Thank you so much!
First time seeing your channel and Congratulations on the new Upgrade! You have so much more room now, so Yes get a toilet of some kind. It just makes sense for the emergency times like bad weather or a public bathroom isn't nearby. You should do a tour of the old van because it'll help you sell the old van. I look forward to how the new van becomes personalized and modified as the adventures roll by. I recommend the First modification: Make holes in the board under the mattress to allow the bed/mattress to breathe and prevent Mold issues.
Has this van manual or automatic box?
Automatic :)
We are thing about getting the same van. It looked great. Would you recommend one and what would you do different if any. 😀
I’m planning to put a DIY C-Head in my van. I like the urine separation, and it can be so much better not to have to find a black water dump for a cassette!
Tour of old van PLEASE 🥺🥺
It’s already up! Posted right after this video in my library 😊
There are so many reasons to not put a stupid bandanna on your dog, them getting too hot is number 6 on that list.
I got a name. VAN😆
Haha classic!
I am in a minivan now......yeh definitely a toilet 😉
Haha any suggestions? I feel overwhelmed by all the choices haha
Arielle Shipe think about the settings you may be in most of the time. Will it be in nature or will you need to dispose of the contents sometimes? 😂
Hi, super nice van. How long is the van? Is that a L2H2 size? Can you tell me where they bought the metal bed support frame? I am thinking about to make bunk bed for more space in the trunk, therefore i need 4 of them.
I have found it: Ikea skorva
Where are the clothes cabinets and personal stuff??????
Just sayin' - Rick
This video was filmed when we rolled off the lot so we hadn't added our personal touches yet :)
What are the details (and R values etcl for the insulation?
I notice the wheel arches do not have sound deadening applied?
That is beyond my knowledge base- I'd check in with Dave and Matt and see what material they use :) It may even say on their website
Cool van! Do you still plan on hiking the Colorado Trail? This would make a great resupply vehicle! A toilet may be a good option, so you don't need to use public facilities, plus a solar shower 😀
We def want to get some sort of shower option down the road- such a good idea! And as far as the Colorado trail I'm undecided up leaning towards not. I am for sure going to do the PCT next year (if world circumstances allow) and I think I may just use this summer to bike and climb and camp in the van and do all the things I won't be doing next summer. We will see!
@@ArielleShipe The best portable shower option I've seen is the Big Kahuna, its even available with an electrical heating element. For indoor showering, you could modify the van floor and install a permanent shower pan and grey water tank. Or go the simple route and use a dogie pool that you dump after use.
Buen vídeo gracias
No shower? No enclosed toilet? Fixed bed instead of pull out or pull down? All at price of over $40,000? No thanks
This van new (as an empty cargo van) is $35k+ and ours only had 15k miles on it soooo I actually think its a great deal considering everything it has and the fact that some else did the build and labor costs money as well.
@@ArielleShipe its all what you value I guess. I see many used cargo vans 2 to 4 years old with less than 50 K miles for less than $20 K I believe those vans can be converted for $15 K to $18 K and have a shower and enclosed toilet and a pull down or slide out bed and a walk through end to end floor plan
what's the deal with those masks...
its the law where we live to where them at businesses
👍
:)
How much was the whole thing
roughly 40k- it only had 15K miles on it
Add a space for shower....
no need IMO :)
But that hat 🤦
What’s wrong with my hat?
Sweet ride. Gonna get myself one soon, I have the urge to go exploring. Especially after been on lock down in the UK.
That's so exciting! Have you thought about what kind you might get?
@@ArielleShipe I'm looking to get a sprinter as they are everywhere in Europe. Can't wait to visit the mountains and enjoy the outdoors. It would be nice to see what the 3 of you get up to over the summer. Stay safe.
Setting up solar for my transit connect right now, I’d love to know how many panels and what wattage you went with, + the size of the battery, (lithium or AGM?) and how you came to understand how much energy you’d be using at a given time! I’m stuck between size of battery and how many panels I really need for extended stays in the van! Thanks in advance!
