This is my dad's hometown, been there once and I miss it and my family there. It's so different to America. I loved Yarmouth. Thank you for the video, cheers!
Happy Smiling faces, i think its where Mr and Mrs Grumpy have their annual holiday these days
I sometimes get my music from that shop..
“A Fine City Norwich “.....I was born in Norwich in 1945, then moved to Great Yarmouth in 1957. The family lived on Seafield Close, loved much of my time in Great Yarmouth, the Pleasure Beach, the Snails, fish and chips the lot. Moved to Canada in 1964, so seeing this brought back many fond memories, to me and I’m sure too many other good folks. Cheers and thank you.
Costs the UK about £1 billion every year to clear up litter and chewing-gum stains. You can certainly see it from some of these streets.
Put one of those knives in your pocket and it's an offensive weapon. Put 200 of them in a shop window and it's a display...ban them!!!
I live here, theres not a lot of murders and market gate shes always had ships in it, I admit a few have shut over the years but they've been replaced by enterprising businesses
This I'm that bit is my grandmas shop window ☹️
Which shop is that. You don't say?
Great Yarmouth Is more run down in the back streets now love that puppet guy been there years getting on a bit now thou
In the 1950.s we used to spend two weeks a year on South deans loved it
beautiful video of a very beautiful town. i love great yarmouth. i worked on a vessel based there for three years and had the privilege of experiencing the warmth and hospitality of its people there. would love to visit again albeit with family. the market gates, the beaches, the pop up stalls in the market, fish and chip stalls, the cakery owned by a lady named kirsty where the author of black beauty was born, the brittania pier, the pier hotel, st.marys church,......and of course my favourite pubs the rum bold arms and the gallon pot..... all hold great memories for me. thank you for posting this video. god bless.
Thank you Cyprus for your kind words. I love Great Yarmouth and all its history. I will no doubt make another video or two.
Great memories of 7 yrs on trot as a kid on holiday late 70’s onwards. Sure the big tower was the Oasis. Also remember the marina. Great video, will definitely be back again one day👍✌️
There is talk of a lot of money being spent there to bring it up to date.
Too late. The Marina is due to be demolished in the next month or so and the Tower (Oasis) is closed and falling into a state of disrepair.
Greetings from New Zealand! I grew up in Gt.Yarmouth so this was very interesting to see what it's like nowadays. Pity you didn't stroll down to the end of Britannia Pier though, as I used to work as a barman there way back in 1971. Used to work at Docwra's Rock Factory during the school holidays as well. A well-made video, good soundtrack, and a decent running time too - most videos are too short. OK then, All The Best!
+Simon Daly I am in Yarmouth at the week end. Look out for a new video. Peir included this time!
Cheers Paul, that'd be wunnerful! Look forward to it ...
+Simon Daly Britannia pier video up on channel
That's cool, such a long time ago.
Love that place
Nice video. We visited Great Yarmouth several times in the 60's during holidays on the Norfolk Broads. I remember the Oasis tower and the ice skating rink underneath, on the next visit it had been converted to a dodgem car ride... oh well!
I was there at holday i miss grate yarmouth i miss that plase
Mason Johnson you miss it so much you cant even spell it
great post ;)
You grate cheese......not Great Yarmouth you pudding.
Yarmouth does not have a high murder rate. There is also more than 3 shops open in Market Gates shopping centre, most of the shops open in fact all are open.
I went to college in Yarmouth in 1979 to 1982. The changes since then are massive. The murder rate is high in comparison to its population unfortunately. A family friend died mysteriously last May and was only laid to rest six months later. The body was in the mortuary all that time while the police investigated. A lot of my comments are tongue in cheek. Don't take me seriously!
They that's my gmas shop
I love Great Yarmouth
Hi Paul,
Nice video.
I am watching you via Paul Short's tip .
My previous example of a British seaside park was my
visit to Blackpool. Now I need to visit Great Yarmouth!
Your commentary is perfect.
Thanks your video
Joe
Joe Fenech I have a caravan that I tow to a place called Burgh Castle. about 3 miles from Yarmouth. I love Great Yarmouth. Sometimes it is so bad it's Good!
Blackpool was that way too.
It had an air of post ww2 with many things to see. I need to visit east coast some day
The walk round vid was a spur of the moment thing. There is a lot of subject matter in Great Yarmouth, not just the seaside attractions, but the history and sites of the many murders! lol
Thanks for taking me back, happy memories of summer hols with my mum and dad.Miss those fun days late 60's to70's,especially the roller coaster couldn't wait to get there.Sadly times have changed not for the better! hope to go back one day but of course it will never be the same.
So much has changed there since you were there, a lot of the shops sadly closed down forever at the end of last year, they also knocked down the leisure centre/swimming pool on the seafront last week.
Lockdown put paid to my visits this year.
I do video the good points and a new leisure centre was needed.
I read that vandals have poured dye into the pond at the Water Gardens.
@@PaulphotoeyeVideo That's disguesting, I have heard Yarmouth council have forced the owners to repair the building as it's now listed, and if they refuse or can't afford it, they'll sieze the property.
The waterways is a great asset at that end of the front, but I wonder about maintaining it over time.
Will thd boating lake maintain popularity.
A shame if none of it survives
@@PaulphotoeyeVideo Oh, sorry I thought you said "Winter Gardens", I did hear they did intend to re-use them, the council said in the yarmouth gazette they were going to re-line the waterways.
I live near GY and it is a shame to see many shops closed. Jarrolds, Palmers, M&S the old BHS, Debenhams, and now Trespass next to the Market Gates entrance is shutting. Winter Gardens now becoming derelict, Iron Duke pub at the north of the town falling apart.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I agree knife crime has gone up in Yarmouth but also everywhere.
Mum Of Darkwood I don't know of any shops that Diddy knives as they do in Yarmouth.
I live here and I agree that there is a murder problem and I had one round the corner to where I live but most people are responsible and use the knives for the purpose they are sold for eg hunting or fishing
Nice video. I've spent a fair bit of time there as I have friends live in GY for many years. The town centre is a dump! I can't imagine going there on holiday. Some of the outskirts are quite nice though!
Several million pounds about to be spent on the market place.
The refurbished waterways and boating lake have just won two awards. Hasn't brought employment.
I do like yarmouth for all its faults
To try and help you on your next visit with family try Africa Alive or Thrigby Wildlife Park. Great places to visit. Fair haven is a lovely place to chill you can even take your dog. Totally advise. Xxx
We used to go to Thrigby when my son was in a pushchair. He is Seventeen in April. I always think about Fairhaven, but haven't been yet.
Went in June it has certainly seen better days bit of a dump sadly Imperial is a great hotel though
I left great yarmouth from holiday the day before the fire!!!
The fire brigade did well to contain it. It could have spread further!
ikr probably the whole of regent road could have burnt down but it was shocking how close it was to when i left
Many uninsured in the indoor market. No sprinklers meant no insurers would insure
That's a good video Paul. I like living in Gt Yarmouth. I love the history in the town.
Although I don't live in Great Yarmouth. I visit regularly. I do love the place and my comments are tongue in cheek. There is, as you say, a great history to the town, but unfortunately some poor ideas by the council (outer Harbour) doesn't help. Neither does the price of market pitches which has driven people out of the Town centre. I am back again at August Bank Holiday.
hi is there much work in great yarmouth got a chance of a house swap to here ....love yarmouth
That would depend on your skill set
Hi louise, if you love yarmouth and haven't already give my channel a look
@@WalkWithMeTim I will, thanks.
this was nice to watch, going to yarmouth next month for the first time since 1995 ! thanks
I will be there in June for the airshow.
i'll keep an eye out for you !
It has been estimated that Great yarmouth will have 170k+ visitors over the two days of the airshow. Needle in a haystack springs to mind. Hope you have a great time. Here is another sunny day video from the last Bank Holiday ua-cam.com/video/-kd8CSprDVI/v-deo.html
thanks, im not planning on going to the airshow unless it falls between 18-22 june when we are staying at a park in corton. must check out when its on as would be cool to watch. (thanks for the link too, will check it out)
edit: no, we just miss it ! typical !
we ended up staying in haven caister, was well impressed with the park and the town itself was nice, and the beach was gorgeous too. as i said above i hadnt been to yarmouth since i were 15 years old/1995, and it was just as good as i remembered it, went on some old rides too like the wooden coaster and a few other rides, all in a very nice holiday, our 4 year old girl enjoyed it too.
Nice video thank you
I also agree we should not advertise knives in any part of the world as I know this is only place that in Yarmouth have them knives. I agree why are we advertising this.
Was considering holidaying at GY this year has never been but after watching yours and a few other videos I’ve changed my mind
It is not that bad really.
Stay outside of yarmouth, places like Burgh Castle are lovely. Are you looking for static caravan or tourer
if you enjoy nature then come but if you enjoy nightlife or shops then stay away ,, in horsey mills you can actually sit on the beach next to hundrends of seals ! there is the norfolk broads ,,fantatsic sunsets and sunrises to be warcched ,truely makes you appreciate your eyes and the ability to see ,,,
Great things to do in the surrounding areas
@@PaulphotoeyeVideo Well you have just put Dave off coming here, I haven't heard of many murders this year, and there are more than three shops open in market gate and chips are not our staple diet. You also seem to be attracted like a magnet to knives and guns as well as photo stuff. Oh and the musak to loud.
I live in great Yarmouth
I have friends who live there and I visit the town regularly. My video is a bit tongue in cheek.
Promoootion on the Norfolk cooost, afterwards I had a can of coooke 😂 many oooo's we even saw a pooooodle. 👍
i am living in manchester i never see shop with knives and weapoons is prohivited in this city
I dont know why it is allowed or how easy it would be to purchase one?
Lovely place never been there. I'm already here. Been here ever since 2009.
Why are all videos and adverts on UA-cam have music volume 5 times louder than the speaker. Very anoying.
Adverts are beyond my control. Music in my video has been edited to play louder where there is not any narration. It is substantially quiter where there is speech. This video was filmed on a mobile phone and maybe that doesn't give the best sound recording for speech. Walking down a street talking to yourself getting funny looks is a task in its self. I will pay attention to the narration volume and increase as best I can in future videos.
Hi, I was not pointing the finger at you, it's just something that is common on UA-cam. It could be be something to do with their encoding algorithm or something. I watch a lot of travel vlogs and when you are doing this late at night, all of a sudden the music cuts in so loud that i always have to have my mouse over the volume control, so i can respond quickly. It would be good if someone made a plugin for web browsers that kept the volume at a constant level
I do know what you mean. I use a larger video camera for other videos, but that makes me look like someone from the BBC. That would have really drawn attention to me! My personal choice is I prefer music audio tracks running the entire length of a video. With careful editing you can use it to mask some annoying noises. for example traffic noise or screaming kids. The right music sound track also makes a video more watchable and can create an ambiance or mood. Adverts are annoying and I only earn pennies from them as a small channel.
I find the problem to be that I have to turn up the sound when there is speech, then Suddenly my ears are blown off because I have headphones on. LOVE GY tho... so still watched
I came here for Dickens
Yes. there is a house On Marine Parade where he stayed.
Great upload, Never changes much.
Baz.
Thanks for your comment. It's a funny old place. I do like though and visit regulary!
There’s more lovely places to eat in Yarmouth than just chips!
Very well put together vid! Last time I was I Great Yarmouth was a child in 1968! Just an observation, but I didn't notice many immigrants in the town.
At 6.39 was that spike Milligan?
+mshomefire it could well have been!
Need to show all the rubbish on our streets from overflowing bins . Council never listens to complaints . Maybe if visitors show thier dissaproval they may just give us a weekly rubbish pick up again and a bit of dignity back. Embarrassing hearing people mention our filthy streets and gross having to live in it. :'(
I know what you mean! I don't think Yarmouth is any worse than elsewhere. I am from Norwich and I could show you bad areas.
Vicky if you think superficial changes to infrastructure, such as weekly refuse collection will restore your dignity, you are part of the problem.
I got sea sick after watching this
Puppet maaaaaaaaaaan!
I was in the gun shop
👍.
Jeez. If you can't make a video that is pleasing to watch and listen to then go find something else to occupy your time.
I live here
Only just got back!!
Jodie Saunders
Not sure the statement : “a lot of murder” is not true
1) it's almost always windy/rainy
2) some arcades are actually good
3) it's not a resort
4) don't buy anything at the gift shops (probably will break the second u touch it )
5)don't you love are ascents here (no?)
6)very nice bowling alley (it got burned down recently btw such a shame)
7)most ppl will probably try to mug you (if you look a bit above average)
8)you should get a better camera
9)I live here
10) market gates is amazing don't diss it
xbonnie_ gamingx thanks for your comments. I have several better cameras but not suitable for Gt Yarmouth. I love the place and will be back at Easter!
Hi I was offered a job there. Do u think it will be safe for and my family with 3 kids to live there. We r muslims and my wife covers her hair.
Yes. No worries.
Yes you will be fine. Great yarmouth is really a good town. What I talk about happens rarely. The trouble is amongst particular type of people. I wouldn't expect you would gave a trouble because you are Muslims. Your wife covering her hair would not be anything g to worry about. The complete covering of the face is what lots of people don't understand. You will like it here. What work will you be doing.
He is in one of my other videos about great yarmouth
Great channel ❤️
The music is too loud
Sorry about that Dan. A lot depends on the quality of the sound system you are listening through. I can only go by my headphones or laptop speakers.
I sometimes have the same issue, it helps if you just use the volume button...
Saying Great Yarmouth has a high murder rate is certainly not doing the town any favours and I won't mind betting I could prove you wrong anyway. Its all very well saying in the comments you say some things "tongue in cheek" but for some the damage will already be done. If you're gonna write across the screen what looks like a fact you need to know it's true and I'm pretty sure it's not!
too many arcades more shops
Hi can you give me some info please i wish to visit Cadercott horse rescue redwings if i go here can i get to redwings caldercott easily from here thank you
Yes. Redwings Caldercott is at a village called Fritton. Are you staying in Yarmouth?
Wow thank you so much for your response i just want to visit the horses really but i live in Manchester i do not drive So would go by train if i have to stay overnight some Band B i will i just want to be able to get to the horse rescue easily So is it just a bus ride from here thank you
There is no rail link to Fritton. Nearest point by train would be St Olaves, but Fritton is a mile away and no footpath. Bus from Yarmouth would be the best bet. I would guess they run from Market Gates in the centre of Yarmouth. Sorry don'y know the companies that run search "Buses from Yarmouth to Fritton" in google. Redwings site www.redwings.org.uk/get-involved/visit/caldecott-visitor-centre?gclid=Cj0KCQjwkd3VBRDzARIsAAdGzMDksmwTVHRBXbWmxJTBnL4hDvaEank9uMztbQ54eBp08O6QkgPsHs0aAu4lEALw_wcB
Thanks
What are they building on regents road?
Great video Music much too loud I listen on the headset haven’t been to great Yarmouth since the early 60s
Graham T Yarmouth is the best seaside town in the UK!
Nowhere like it!
Slug Studios Not really. It's really bad.
I found this UKIP video. Says a lot. ua-cam.com/video/quvqbpBjsBc/v-deo.html
Check out my Great Yarmouth Airshow videos
It is but locals will never be happy ... so why live here then
Music overdub to prevalent and poor choice to be honest shame as it spoils whole thing
Horrible music made everyone decide not to watch it... too loud background music low if forced to have it...
Yes I know. Not the best. Oh hum!
Terrible video. Full of inaccuracies. York has the most complete town walls, GY is second. Shame you don't show the circus, Merryvale, Wellsley Rec football stand (reputed to be the oldest wooden football stand), Time & Tide museum, The Star, the roller coaster on the Pleasure Beach, St George's park, the Toll House e.t.c. Your commentary was inaudible and the crap music was too loud.
Thank you for commenting. It is appreciated.
York City had a wall in some shape or form since 71 AD. Romans had a wall and parts are still apparent. Other periods in history added to it. Great yarmouth wall was built around 1261. It is original and no other period in history built on to it. York may be the most complete but it was not built in its entirety in one specific age. The wall in Great Yarmouth originates from one period of history only and is the country's second most complete mediaeval wall.
I also have a video of Merry ville posted on yt. Video's of the venitian gardens. History of britannia peir etc.
damn loud music.
take one step back from the front and you would be disgusted by the dog shit and deprivation a truly let down town by council and government
Yep!
The music is about as nostalgic as a disused sweet wrapper. Not a good choice. And you can't be heard.
have ever done a walk around of you own home town then. wow it must be somewhere really thrilling, what with a pub, a post office maybe... a little crappy shop even? instead of slating off others.... a lot of murderers in yarmouth .... puppet man RELEGATED to great yarmouth from norwich. yes, it is offencive to us that have lived here for generations... so please if your opinions are so strong, don't put them up on youtube to insult us, oh and please, please, please DON'T come back.....!!! EVER....
Sorry to offend you. It was meant as a tongue in cheek video from someone who loves the Town. I went to college in GY. I holiday there several weekends a year. I support the Truckers convoy that comes through your town. I spend money in your shops supporting local trade. I have friends who live in Yarmouth and they see the funny side of this video. On the other side I have been a victim of a robbery in your town, A family friend was the last person to mysteriously die in GY and she is still in the mortuary as the police are still investigating for the last 2 months. There is a back story to the puppetman that everyone seems to forget. GY council have messed up the Market by the way they charge for pitches driving traders and shoppers out of the town centre. So all in all it is not different from anywhere else. Apologies. I will make sure my next video is on a positive note showing the good in the town.
regorsmith I really wish Gt. Yarmouth would do the people of Norwich a favour and keep the puppet man. Drives me nuts
Chav heaven
The chavs I have met in my travels tend to have far more self respect than the scum of Great Yarmouth. A large proportion of scum in Yarmouth should be rendered down.
By saying that there are more murder weapons at martyns walk around and pownalls you are doing nothing for the economy of great Yarmouth in fact you could be keeping people away from the place
.
Get a life and turn that bloody music down
