    I use the simple tiny (1/2" diameter) hair bands sold at walmart in place of o-rings. Make sure to get the silicone ones as they're super stretchy and tough. I double them over to get the "X" shape on the Senko...the same configuration that would otherwise require 2 of the more expensive o-rings to achieve. You get 100's per bag, and they'll grip any size Senko. They hold up well. They are in fact the same bands I attach to my trolling mono when I want to attach a trolling weight using an alligator clip. Finally, you don't need a freakin' 0-ring tool to put them on. I double over 2 of these bands and have no issues.

    Great tip about roughing up the bait, I would never have thought of that.

    I started doing some damage on wacky-rigged trick worms from watching your videos. Love this stuff, man. I'd love to see a video on mid-depth cranking. I feel like it's the 10ft jump-shot of bass fishing.

    Awesome show Randy. I tried the wacky rig back in the 80 s for about 5 minutes. Really missed the boat. Been using a lot the past year

    Thought there couldn't be that much info on this simple rig but this was great ! Can't wait to try these methods

    Jeez. The hookset tip saved for last 30 seconds! Oh, I almost forgot!
    Thanks, Randy, for a great lesson.

    i use a slightly different gamagatsu- its called " live bait"- but still straight shank one. great hookset ratio- same size 1/0

      This makes a lot of sense. Especially when Randy talks about the nuances of visual deterrents. The length of the G finesse SS hook looks twice as long as the live bait hook you reference. Randy, please weigh in on this.

    Understanding the difference in fall rate between the trick/senko has totally changed my fishing. In clear shallow ponds they will crush the trick worm wacky rigged. You don't even think there are fish in such tight water just feet from where you are fishing but they are there and they will eat the trick worm when they won't eat the senko!

    I like the straight shank hooks also but, I often use aan offset round bend worm hook. It has a lot of space between the barb along the shank. I get similar results.

    I find actually a short live bait hook works incredible for a wacky rig! It’s a lot shorter so it has less presence vs a normal hook while still having a large enough point and barb to hold onto the fish. I feel like I get more bites vs a longer hook. I use double O rings crossed over so it rigs right.

    Great information you give us here. I am wondering about your experience fishing the wacky along reed lines in natural lakes. Looking forward to your thoughts on that.

    I had an epiphany about what makes the wacky rig so effective. This may be the ultimate juice, or all of y'all may all simultaneously smack your foreheads. What I think the bass are seeing when the wacky rig falls is a fish on it's side flailing as it dies. So in essence, a better, more versatile presentation of the flutter spoon technique. Talk amongst yourselves...

    Have you tried the double O- ring method instead of the collar or going through the worm it turns the hook the correct way. What's your thoughts on it. Thanks for your time and another great video

      Based on previous UA-cam statements Randy has opined that he doesn't like it because it is a visible strike deterrent to the fish. He has also stated that he doesn't like the action with a collar and that it reduces successful hook sets.

    • @Schnazola
      @Schnazola 8 місяців тому

      I've seen collars that orient the hook properly, but they are still a visual deterrent.

    I have never used a thinner-wire, straight-shank hook. I see how that type of hook will give me greater probability.

      When I switched to thin-wire hooks, my hookup ratio improved a lot. A LOT!

    The Senko has had a devastating effect on the fishing tackle industry since its introduction years ago. It's hard to believe that the industry recovered at all, let alone recovered enough to allow videos on jerkbaits to be worthwhile for advertisers. The sale of such a simple fish catching tool to the working bass fisherman should be the subject of a sky-is-falling video.

      Im stuck on the bank and use them to get cast further out. Sometimes I cut a 7 inch senko down to a 6inch. I cross two O-rings and use a 2/0 weedless Gamakatsu wacky worm hook. Works for me at my weedy lake. I use 18 pound Floro leader and braid main line. I catch 8 inchers sometimes.

  • @jayclark2790
    @jayclark2790 8 місяців тому

    Does anyone else HATE wacky rigging? Idk why but I just see no appeal. Maybe my fisheries just get overfished with it so it’s not as effective than other places but it just doesn’t translate to fish like most people insist

    If you live in the south and you put 6lb test on your spinning reel your gonna be one sad dude at the end of the day. That must be a northern thing cause you'll miss allot of fish using it down here
