Good to see appreciation of this great car and not moaning about it being 4 cylinder. I’ve done 19,000 miles in my T in last 2 years including some track time and it’s a fantastic car - I’ve owned a lot of Porsches including 911S , GTS and GT3 and the T drives brilliantly . Ps I did upgrade to the leather on the dash area under the windscreen and either side of the centre console with matching stitching as it really lifts the interior over the plastic trim .
Great review, Robin - nice to hear such positive feedback on the engine sound. Beautiful car! Thank you 🙏🏽
Appreciate that, thank you for the compliment.
Sounds like crap. I'm sorry.
That was a great review. Thank you!
Beautiful looking car. Intrigued by the T, nice review cheers
Great video Robin, I’m hoping to own a boxster in some form in the future, either boxster t, gts 4.0 litre, or electric version if and when it’s released. I test drove the base 718 boxster and loved the 2.0 turbo engine with the pdk box, awesome car.
Thank you! It’s a great car, absolutely.
Beautiful spec and nice review!
Appreciate the compliment, thank you!
Nice review👍🏻
Awesome review
but in my opinion the PDK is the better choice.
You have 2 modes: automatic and manual. Even in automatic mode you can manually shift gears with the paddles on the steering wheel and you don't have to use the clutch pedal. So it's the best of both worlds.
Thank you very much. And you make a good case for the PDK. For me, the manual provides further connection to the car, which I prefer.
@@viewsonvehicles Each as he likes
Most of my (driver's) life I drove manual gearboxes because the old automatic transmission were slow and sluggish. Then, in 2008, on a test drive with a VW Golf equipped with dual clutch transmission came the realization: this "little crazy thing" can shift gears better and faster than I ever could.
With my Boxster T with PDK I am very satisfied and the connection comes through the, we call it "Popometer"(means feel the road with the "ass" ).
Clutch control is at least half the fun of driving a manual though!
Get mine March 1st! It’s going to be a long six months! Great review, thank you.
My goal is to be able to buy one soon! How do you like it
@@brandonw927 Hi Brandon, a long story made very short. Porsche came back to me with a delay in delivery of up to a year so I cancelled the order. However…. in doing so I bought a nearly new 718S instead and I absolutely love it. It makes me happy every single day!! I hope you get yours, you won’t regret it! Good luck with it.
How is it??!
@@ItsPaulby The order was delayed so I cancelled it and got a nearly new Boxster S instead. It’s absolutely brilliant! I love it!
@@simonjarratt I’m torn between a 718 base or T vs a 981 Boxster S. Any advice? Leaning 981
Great review and liked the details in the video write up above. I think the engine sounds okay, but yes the flat six is special. Pet gripe, the cup holders popping out above the electronics just seemed like an accident waiting to happen.
Appreciate the compliment, and I think you got it right with engine sound. Regarding the cupholders, I must admit they actually functioned reasonably well, but only with careful driving and constant monitoring. I think the cupholders are Porsche’s way of saying “finish your coffee, then take a drive.”
@@viewsonvehicles :) yep, drink your coffee and eat your donut in the Dunkin lot and then throw away the empty cup in the trash can....then drive.
@@93455Driver well, it’s tea for me, not coffee, and a breakfast burrito. But same difference, I suppose.
@@93455Driver Wise words 93455Driver, wise words!!
The other important point about the T is that it has shorter gearing than the GTS. That’s a big deal. You can’t wring out the GTS easily on the road and you get one shift in the manual before you’re way over the speed limit. The T gets all the essential kit to make it a drivers car. And Porsche heritage is chock full of four cylinder engines. This is the best one you can get.
It's August 18th 2023 and I just learned about this trim level.... To my disappointment, it seems to have been discontinued 😢..... Shame, it seems like a great package
Used car market? Worth a go, perhaps.
The S seems to fully solve speed concerns. I just ordered a T. I am wondering if a heavier al a carte S is where the sweet spot is or the T. The T im full bucket carbon vs leathered out S? I have a short window to change. The full bucket seats supposedly put this thing just below 3000 lbs with a manual gearbox. Hm!
I was comparing this car to the Alfa Romeo 4C.. Both are small, and SHARP !!. But Honestly i like the Porsche more, simply because it has more Room..( That 4C can Only carry one small backpack )..:(
Nice🎉❤
It sounds quite good in this video - some journos say it’s pretty bad in person.
It’s all about context. The turbo 2.0-liter flat-four sounds really good, but not as good as the better flat-six motors. For example, the sounds from the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 is fantastic.
I really liked the exhaust note and power curve of the turbo engine, drive one, you will love everything about it I’m sure. If money is no object the spyder or gts 4.0ltr would be a very sensible purchase and should hold value very well. The spyder looks much better in real life 👍
Would you consider an aftermarket exhaust?
Personally? No, I like the way it sounds from the factory. But for those that want it louder, or with a different tone, sure. As long as it's a high quality system from a reputable builder.
How tall are you? Asking to learn more about the fit.
I’m 5 feet, 11 inches tall, or 178 cm. Hope that helps.
@@viewsonvehicles I'm 6'3 so maybe this would be a tight fit.
@@erskinhansen1715 Fair. Depends if you’re more leg or torso, you know? If you have long legs, I think the 718 could still fit you, but a long torso may be tight.
@@viewsonvehicles Fair point. Only one way to know for sure, gotta sit in one. Btw, the "T" stands for Touring.
@@erskinhansen1715 Yeah, I know. As I told another commenter, I should’ve explained the actual meaning of T at some point in the video. I was just having a bit of fun with the letter. You being the second one to call it out, only solidifies that point.
Actually T stands for Touring
That is correct, I suppose I should've mentioned it's literal meaning.
Sounds like a Subaru WRX! Nothing like a flat 6.
Alphaboy go to Doctor to check your ears, Subaru sounds different!
It sounds awful and wheezy…. I have a 981 GTS and these 718s are not a patch on it for drama. Yes they are faster but that’s only one part of the story. For me, the way it sounds is a deal breaker! I did have the 718S as a courtesy car. I returned to the dealership ahead of time as I couldn’t wait to be rid of the thing!
I owned a 987S for 6 years before I bought my T. Each to his own. I actually PREFER the sound of my T over the flat 6 over 90% of the time. IMHO the T is a better car in every way. Love it.
It's amazing car shame it sounds like a 4 cylinder WRX. No, worse than a WRX.
I definitely agree that it sounds worse than the flat-6 and different than the iconic flat-4 from Subaru. But I do not think it sounds worse. I quite like the way Porsche tuned it.
