From the playground to the wasteground
Hope ends at 17 -
Sweeping floors and filling shelves
Forced into government schemes -
11 years spent to dig out ditches,
Forget your schoolday dreams -
Guarantees and lie-filled speeches,
But nothings what it seems -
Qualified and patronised and with everything to lose.
No choice or chance for the future
The rich enjoy less tax -
Dress the girls in pretty pink
The shit goes to the blacks
A generation's heart torn out
And covered up the facts
The only thing they'll understand
Is a wall against their backs
The only hope now left for those - with everything to lose.
In desperation empty eyes,
Signed up and thrown away -
There's drugs replacing dignity,
The short sharp shock repaid -
There'll be no money if you dare to question
Working the Tory way -
The truth is up there carved in stone,
Where 21 dead now lay -
A family's loss for a few pounds saved -
With everything to lose.
Is that a young Jacko Peake on saxophone? What a great song, Our Favourite Shop summed up everything that was happening then. Even still prevalent now.
One of the amazing 80's bands.
Timeless & pure class! TSC underrated. Great vocals & instrumentally cannot fault it. And yes to write two sets of lyrics 'Ever had it 'Blue & lyrics to 'Everything to Lose' very skillful & insightful. This track sadly still holds true today.
It takes a genius to write completely different lyrics to the same music and yet both sound different !!! #everhaditblue
steve white wrote these lyrics while weller wrote blue
This is the original version, much better than the one they recut for Absoute Beginners (with much less political lyrics). When Steve White wrote these lyrics, he was 19 - assuming they were written in 1984 for publication in 1985 (Our Favourite Shop). Unbeatable.
Ever had it blue was originally wrote in 84 before this , The film was held up 2 years after Weller wrote it
Political jabs are spot on. Sadly, it effected radio play in the unites states of amnesia.
Same tune as Have you ever had it blue
Música maravilha! Saudades de minha adolescência.
Sds da minha infância tbmmmm
Belas memories, amiga.
Jazz-Bossa, no talo!🎶🥁❤️🎶
Esta banda es pura clase y refinamiento, los arreglos son magníficos.
Weller magnifico, creativo e raffinato chitarrista. Mi ha accompagnato tra gioia e pianto.
When a band just buzz, peak power from SC , amazing
Pure class!
I was there both nights, such a cool band
Why does sophistipop do it for me...for us? From them to Sade,EBTG to Swing Out Sister, Basia to The bloody Blow Monkeys, this genre fits just about anywhere. It’s the Jazz-infusion...and can anyone tell me if Downtown Julie Brown did backup for them before her MTV heydays?
sophistipop is pure class💯💯
Essa flauta é chique demais 👏👏👏

日本語訳、いい。
So he now became rich, singing this kind of songs.
If hes well off its because he has a decent work ethic and worked hard at his craft every day .
