Cheers all for your kind comments. This was by no means a how to, if anyone would like me to do a proper how to showing you the materials e.c.t. pop a reply comment to this or give it a like. Cheers
Wow. When you first wiped the wash away, I was like "I dunno about this" but as the video went on, it got better and better looking. I need to try the Humbrol powder, I see! It helps that the 45xx are my favourite GWR locos.
Nice to see some of us still weather by hand. I also use that Halfords matt varnish after years of not getting on with Humbrol and Railmatch varnish aerosols. Like the use of the white pencil. Good video
Great video and very informative for beginners. I have been tempted to weather some of my locos but has been scared to tackle the projects of weathering. Your video has given me the information and answered all my questions. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Thanks James, that was a rather informative vid, especially when it's showing off all the little things you do/use. It's also nice to see more people using the electroswing style in their time lapses, it makes for a really nice video. Overall, it's pretty much just another one of your great vids.
Phenomenal video James, glad you have delivered another awesome tutorial. Glad I could watch this awesome video whilst the Snooker buffers. Another video to help me with my layout....Along with all the rest of your videos :)
Very nicely done tutorial. I really like the all over 'smoke' weathering, and I do actually like the plain green - it somehow works :P Haven't really thought about weathering my stock much, but I should probably get around to it!
Superb work indeed mate! Very well filmed and documented! :) What was that paint you used for the black wash? Plus the dirty brown on the connecting rods? What mix was it? Really is so effective! Also what did you use to remove the lettering and numbers from the buffer beams? Very clever tip with the white pencil for the water marks. Also what software did you use for the time-lapse? Sorry for all the questions. :p Make me wish I had more time to sit down and get weathering again myself. Superb work indeed and thanks for sharing!
Great tips and techniques but the white pencil streaks, I can't believe you did not blend them into the paint. They look a bit iffy, otherwise a great grime look.
I have recently bought the same loco but I want to replace the plastic coal with some real coal but I can't work out how to remove the coal from the bunker. How did you do it?
Really good video, very informative although it would be much appreciated if you could list some of the products that you've used in the description. What's the music by the way?
Thats a brilliant outcome there mate! Wen u spray the matt laquer, do u mask off any running gear/wheels? Or is it fine to do that without covering them? Cheers
+Games202 i seperate the body from the chassis (removing the screws before weathering so you dont ruin it) then spray the body and do a lighter coat on the chassis. once its been oiled and run in it'll wear down the lacquer on the moving parts.
After watching this I may have a go at one of my loco's , what was it that you put on the red front and back buffer ends at the beginning of the video .......Peter .
Amazing video shame about the removal of the beautiful gwr livery but one of the best you've ever done! I love the representation of seagull poo done by your pencil 😉😂 love your vids keep it up !
Personally I would leave out the white streaks. It looks like bird poo and I have OCD and whenever I see bird poo or something that resembles it i spas out.

Nice job, thanks for sharing.

good video ,but it would have been better if you said what paint /powder you used to get your effect
jim kelly railmatch
Very nice, really like the time lapse in this video, good job mate
Great video! Very useful!
Great tips and techniques but the white pencil streaks, I can't believe you did not blend them into the paint. They look a bit iffy, otherwise a great grime look.

Great how to video
I never knew something so dirty would look gorgeous lol :-D
Quick little question, what chemical/paint did you use to loose the front running numbers on the buffer beam?
Very good and informative video, what is the name of the music used in the video? Keep the faith - Callum
Great video.. can you please list the paint you used, the powder etc? i want to try your way of weathering . it looks fantastic
That's a very good weathering job, but I think that the BR branding is missing from the tanks.
+4472100 thankyou, nope i left it off on purpose. i did mention this in the video ;)
Really good video, very informative although it would be much appreciated if you could list some of the products that you've used in the description. What's the music by the way?
thanks for this video this will help me a lot in the future
+midland compound 1000 glad i could help
Thats a brilliant outcome there mate! Wen u spray the matt laquer, do u mask off any running gear/wheels? Or is it fine to do that without covering them? Cheers
When you put on the lacquer did you have to be careful of the wheel and moving part or is it fine ?
+Games202 i seperate the body from the chassis (removing the screws before weathering so you dont ruin it) then spray the body and do a lighter coat on the chassis. once its been oiled and run in it'll wear down the lacquer on the moving parts.
Nicely done :)
+DavidRowley4472 thankyou David
No airbrushing. What do you use? It look's good. I have not seen it before. Good job. Good detail picked out.
+Nigel Carter thankyou Nigel, i use a mixture of paints and powders
What's the stuff you put on the tanks and take off with a Cotten bud called??
Very effective. Do you seal the finish on completion?
+William Glover yes William :)
Hallo. How the text from the tank was removed? best regards
Painting over it in the correct colour, I assume.
Nice job, and something I would attempt myself, but I'm paranoid about gumming-up the motion on my locos with lacquer or powder. How do you avoid it?
One thing you should not get weathering powder round the wheels and rods, act like sand paper on bearings and cranks.
How was the GWR Logo removed?
What product did you put on the loco first?
After watching this I may have a go at one of my loco's , what was it that you put on the red front and back buffer ends at the beginning of the video .......Peter .
+Peter Shaw it's worth having a go on a wagon or a plastic kit first to be sure you've got the feel for it. do you mean the paint?
+James Simpson Don't think it was paint , it was at 1.30 in the video you started to put it on . .....Peter .
+Peter Shaw yes peter thats just red paint which has been watered down
+James Simpson Thanks .
Amazing video shame about the removal of the beautiful gwr livery but one of the best you've ever done! I love the representation of seagull poo done by your pencil 😉😂 love your vids keep it up !
+Alman Smith thankyou very much Alman. haha im not sure what it is but it's on every grimy loco
cheeky driver haha
how thick is the black paint?
+ollie copie it was only a wash so about 70/30 paint to water
the buffer beam and some of the pencil marks look rushed, but other then that it looks great
What music was that ???????
This would look really good with a couple of coal trucks behind it.
Where the GWR logo?.
noooooo! it looked so good until you scribbled all over it with the pencil :c
I think he can do it how he wants.
some people do it how they want some people pt a pencil on some dont
Nice Video ähhhhhhhh wait you have the Same Name as me.....
Pěkna prace....parada
Personally I would leave out the white streaks.
It looks like bird poo and I have OCD and whenever I see bird poo or something that resembles it i spas out.
Yer weathering techniques are pretty good but, you should scrap that crappy music and explain what yer doing and why.
