He went to kindergarten to about 3rd grade in a public school in Mindanao. All that time he learned to humm and sing himself to sleep. He did so much variety of odd jobs at a tender age just to survive, like being a helper in construction sites, mixing cement manually with gravel and water and carrying it to the guys needing to build hollow blocks with cement, etc., selling boiled duck eggs which is a popular delicacy called "Balot" upto the wee hours of dawn, any job an under 12 year old kid could do Marcelito had done it, excluding any criminal activities which he never did. He would hang around clubs and restaurants and watch in amazement at the talent of the singers' performing while he watched from outside the door. He started singing himself and follow the way he sees the singers sing and thru the years he kept on singing. He was a no read no write kid having left his 3rd year public grade school education to fend for himself and survived all those years. It was while Marcelito Pomoy was in his teens while cleaning inside massively large chicken pens in chicken farms that he discovered he could sing both male and female voices. His very first audiences were those clucking, egg laying chickens... we will never know whether Marcelito encouraged those hens to lay more eggs while being serenaded !!! He honed his skill’s on his own as he barely survived day to day, so he could never afford a vocal coach to teach him to sing properly. He was able to travel to Manila and still live the streets of the city. When he was in his early 20’s, he was urged by his circle of friends to join a nationwide TV network singing competition in Manila. He won the competition hands down despite so many excellent competitors. He eventually signed a record deal with the recording studio arm of the same TV network and the rest is now history. His SUFFERINGS in life I barely touched on the surface.... You won't be able to watch his UA-cam videos about his life story coming from Marcelito Pomoy because he is not comfortable talking in conversational American English. He can now sing almost all songs in so many different languages with the help of a vocal coach but talk to him in English, interview him in English and he would need a translator to assist him. He is very rich now in terms of an average Filipino earning a decent living in manila, he bought a beautiful home and got married to his girlfriend and they have a child now to enrich their married blissful life as a family. He has returned to school to be more confident in his life but it's still a very long way to go for him. He does an excellent job of emulating the diction, way of delivering of the singers he hears and watches. His favorite singer is Celine Dion and Andre Bocelli and the prayer is one of his favorite songs. He first listens to each song he wants to sing, following their pronunciation, breathing patterns, etc until he's able to follow them like he did with Celine Dion etc. I hope I had shed some life on Marcelito Pomoy so you'll understand better why maybe you'd notice some slight imperfections in the way he emulates other singers' songs. In one of the interviews Marcelito Pomoy was asked in Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines, the media wanted to know what was the meaning of the gesture he did pretending to cough at the end of doing a recording in the Wish bus of the emotionally filled beautiful song THE PRAYER, he jokingly said he wanted to bring out the woman in him but did not expand any further ... maybe he wanted Celine Dion to come out perhaps ???? The first time I heard Marcelito was around the start of the covid nightmare. My first reaction was like how most people react. (Is this for real, and if it is, how is he able to do it. When I thought about it, it came to me. He is a native of the Philippines!! I have been there 5 times over the span of 10 years, the first time to get married to my pen pal of 2 years. After meeting her in person, we decided to get married right away. I am older than my wife by only 10 months. I am 68 now, and we are celebrating this December our 34 th year of being married. One half of my life!! I got the right one. Thanks Malou. I love you. The point I am trying to make is that the reason there is so much talent in Marcelito is because of his past hard times that he had to overcome, his belief in God, and his humble nature. This is the Philippines. They are the kindest, most humble, caring, loving, happy people in world. This is why God has given them the gift of music.
What I found really absurd was he only placed 4th at the finals for Americas Got Talent. He is First for us and should be for everyone. I've read his bio. And to hear what he went through in his childhood makes me BELIEVE that our dear Lord in heaven has given him this Talent to give him a much deserved better life. Hurrah for Marcelito.
This young man here has done himself proud, from being abandoned on the street by his Mother at age 7, and his Father being in prison, he taught himself how to sing like this. Marcelito is the true definition of perseverance and determination, a true beacon of light to all of us in the world. This man had absolutely nothing but he took what he had and made something of himself, that is success in a nutshell. He is a gift to all of us who can hear him and be mesmerized by his God given talent. He won on Philippines Got Talent, and the first thing he wanted to do was find his Parents. In spite of them NOT being there for him while he was growing up, he wanted to find them which he did and he forgave them for what happened, that is truly a man who has no anger towards another human being in his heart. His wife and child are blessed to have this kind man in their lives, he has stated he is going to be there for his children and is doing just that. he could have been a statistic, but instead he chose the path to success and he has done just that. We had this doble-cara (double-face) act in which a boy or girl was divided into a male or female personas. Half-boy and half-girl, in a one-man duet. Thank you for your honest reaction of Marcelito Pomoy. Really, he is very good. The switching of his voice is incredible but that's common in the Philippines. We had this doble-cara (double-face) act in which a boy or girl was divided into a male or female personas. Half-boy and half-girl, in a one-man duet. A talent in small town singing contests and beauty pageants. Filipinos are really talented race.

Marcelito was born with the ability to sing in soprano, tenor and baritone ranges. He's also singing in both English and Italian...neither one is his native language. And he's completely self taught!! Glad you enjoyed him.
