  • In this video, I demonstrate how to clean years of rust off an antique cobbler's anvil. Don't scrap rusty old equipment, restore it and use it!
When you find a rusty piece of shoe or bootmaking equipment, a curling shackle, egg iron, or other cast iron tool for a good price at a flea market or similar, get it and clean it up!

I do not recommend using water, that encourages more rust. Steel Wool and Boiled Linseed Oil is best for full removal of all rust. You don't want to be making more rust.
Rag off any surplus oil. Leave to dry, then polish with a cotton cloth.

Thanks for sharing this! I’ve got my own cast iron rust removal project of a cauldron coming up so this is great to see. I’ll be seasoning mine like a skillet for long-term but I wouldn’t have thought to use the vinegar, that’s brilliant

This was legit interesting. Reminds me I've got an old typewriter I need to sort out.
