Chloe is one of the best looking models in the uk right now. Gavin always seems to get amazing shots of her. More of Chloe (and Gavin too) pleeeeaaasssee.
When I started to photography almost same era I meet with you in Adorama videos and I learned a lot of things. Honestly still I'm learning. Because your teaching style just fit for me. More pictures less bla bla. Thank you!
Hi Gavin, Thanks for this Live On Location Lighting i really enjoyed it and learned things from it. It was a great question from Jim Blud, thanks for sharing this video. 😃
Been watching a load of your videos. Very informative- thank you. If I was to buy a flash from Adorama do they ship to the UK? What would be a good one to start with. I have a hex soft box 30” Thank you
I’m bummed out that I missed the live stream by an hour! Had to re-ring the bell in the hopes that UA-cam notifies me in time. When shooting in natural light, what’s better for preserving background bokeh with an open aperture? High shutter speed or a filter? What filters are better workhorses?
This is excellent - location is very helpful, as not everyone has a studio or acces to one, but we all have access to locations! Also, knowing how to blend flash with ambient, or when to use flash and when to use ambient only is not so easy, as so dependent on conditions. Thank you.
Thank you Gavin. It was my first Live after watching your work for years. And thank you for answering my question. I will be taking a Speedlight and a Reflector on the beach Shoot this September. Look forward to the next Live in 4 weeks. Jim Blud
A big hello from the Algarve, Portugal. Don´t knock the British weather, our blue skies and strong sunlight does no favours for daylight shooting. As usual another excellent "warts and all" video, I think it´s important to make and learn from mistakes. I notice you don´t switch off you camera when changing lenses, does this have any adverse effects? How do you get Adorama to deliver to the UK?
Hi Gavin, This might seem a stupid question but what kind of sand is used in the sandbags Do you get it in a hardware store like B&Q (UK)? Many thanks Marco
Hi Marco. Not a silly question at all and the answer might surprise you... There's no sand in my sandbags 😲 I use pea shingle (10mm gravel) it's heavy and it doesn't leak out of the bags zips / velco fastenings.
@@GavinHoey thank you. I’ll get some and try it. BTW, very good video. Your team is brilliant, and Chloe, perfect. You were lucky yesterday: No rain nor wind. Is the third outdoor video I saw from you. In the others you used HSS which is great if you have a modern flash.
have you put sand in the sandbags, or what do you put in. I don't think it makes sense with sand when the sandbag I have is not completely tight. Or is it just me that bought it too cheap
Can I please ask about the dof. Using the photopills dof calculator, with olympus 45mm f/1.2 and distance from subject 2m (estimated from the video at 13.52min!), it says the dof is only 7cm. However the image you get (at 14.14min), unless Chloe has a very small head(!), there is much more than 7cm in focus. How can you explain this please? Or am I using the calculator wrong? I am doing a family photoshoot outside, I shoot OM system, and I'm wanting to choose a good aperture!! Thanks 🙂
DoF is affected by three things: Aperture, distance, focal length. When you back up, you increase your distance to the subject, which in turn increases your DoF, and the background becomes a bit sharper.
It would be great if you did more outdoor shoots, maybe with less blown out skies. I was thinking a two light setup one for the model one for the background, occasionally using the sun as the second light. Great fun to watch you Gavin as always.
The MFT 45mm F1.2 is not equivalent to fullframe 90mm F1.2! In detail: - 90mm is correct - F1.2 is only valid for the light coming in - But: regarding picture look (e.g. depth of field) it will be like a 90mm F2.4! (double the aperture).
The Best part of Adorama is Gavin and Chloe..!
as always your video is great 💌💌💌💌
I think the very last one is the winner
Hoey, his production crew and models are a treasure.
Must be nice to be outside where it is cool. Jay from Dallas.

Great tutorial. Kudos to all and of course Jake the Cat!

Your cat reminds me of our boy's cat Railroad. Fluffy black with white whiskers. His full name was Railroadtracks ❤

Outstanding. Extremely informative, entertaining and inspirational. Big thanks to everyone.👍👍
I love to see the live problem-solving. Well done!
Well it's great to see that what happens to me on location happens to the great photographers of the world too. Nice video!
Hi! From Louisiana
Love watching you problem fix , helps learning thanks really enjoyed this ❤
I would've used a on camera flash --- with a defuser on flash --- for the sunset pics...😉👍😊
Great video, thank you for taking us along on a real live photo shoot, it was like being there and having to think on my feet!
hello Kate

Muchly enjoyed Sir Gavin, if you do more "On location" shoots and need an equipment wrangler, I'm your to command buddy. Keep on clicking...
Good stuff 😊
I would like to see more out of studio videos please.
Do you use any type of filters. Polarizers or ND when outdoors on full sun days?
What stand are you using for the halo reflector please and what is the grip thing? Thanks!
Apparently youtube now has a separate tab for live videos, even after they've passed. And now I know why I have been missing these :(
I’m a beginner photographer and I was wondering how to set your camera with strobe lights outdoors to over power harsh sunlight
Very good Gavin and team! Wish I knew how to get these "live"...even though I'M subscribed, I don't get notifications. Any help would be appreciated!
When are you going to visit us in the states?
Chloe! ❤
What did you use to attach and hold the Halo compact reflector to your light stand, please? Could you give a link? Thanks.

Coll as ever, just a quick question, do you think this is also possible with for example the canon 600EX RT?
With the light level as low as it was by the end, absolutely a speedlight would have been an option.
Are you feathering the light or pointing it directly at the model ?
have you put sand in the sandbags, or what do you put in. I don't think it makes sense with sand when the sandbag I have is not completely tight. Or is it just me that bought it too cheap
Is Olympus your favorite go--to camera for mirrorless...

Would you buy 2 ad200 or 1 ad400?

How do you “deal” with the difference in color temperature between your daylight (5500K) balanced OCF on your subject and a cloudy (6K, 7K?) ambient?
DoF is affected by three things: Aperture, distance, focal length.
When you back up, you increase your distance to the subject, which in turn increases your DoF, and the background becomes a bit sharper.
That was a perfect cat
What is your iso and speed you’re shooting at?
Hi, Sunil from India.
❤
What tethering software do you use
4:00am is a bit early for me to get up.
It would be great if you did more outdoor shoots, maybe with less blown out skies. I was thinking a two light setup one for the model one for the background, occasionally using the sun as the second light. Great fun to watch you Gavin as always.
Grest video
20:19 i caught that ;) lol
thank your for video why not use your Meter to read ambient light hitting the model face and then just your light or f stop Thank you Gavin
"It depends!" A very Galician answer 🤣
😺📷😎
🐈⬛ 😊
What happened, since when does Gavin remember to turn on the flash? 😂😉
Bet there's a GPO man looking for his cart in your area :-)
