Gary is absolutely correct about UA-cam's rising popularity. Before 2016, I treated YT as a how-to library if I needed a quick lesson on how to repair something. In 2024, because Hollywood is so sh*t, it is my main source of entertainment.

"We're coming for your kids!", "Just kidding!"..... No they're not. Gary just articulated something I've been saying for ages (feeling a little validated), an academic is an adult who never left school.

I fully believe in the inherent value of learning for the sake of learning, of knowledge for knowledge's sake. If all education is merely and only utilitarian - all Liberal Arts colleges bulldozed and converted to schools of business - then we actively abandon the patrimony of the West. Then we gleefully throw away the vast majority of our cultural endowment - which is the primary goal of Post-Modernism and Neo-Marxism, and BLM, etc, etc. We must be very careful if we aren't to lose all we have inherited from ancient Greece, from the Renaissance, from the Enlightenment, from two millennia of Judeo-Christian philosophy and art. My point is that we should give very careful thought before denigrating academics and their knowledge of the world.

Heck I found him while looking for others who thought the same as me about these modern movies. Because I felt like I was insane, the MSM and normies were screaming GB 22016 was good and I was sexist for seeing the trailer and thinking "God that looks lame" Along with him and others I discovered, no I am not insane for wanting good stories, good acting, good fight scenes, good characters and for all that to come alive on screen.
Thank you Nick. Been a big fan of Gary for close to 5 years. Hearing you both makes me feel that there is hope for America. Keep fighting the good fight (from an ex-Aussie living in NZ).
I was one of those cancelled knitters at that knitting social networking site in about 2017. It was bizarre, and everyone I tried to explain it to thought I was insane. But the more I looked into it, the scarier and crazier than I'd imagined.
Bro I was thinking the same and how weird it made me feel. Been like this for a few years now been fed up with most of the entertainment industry. Glad to see I'm not alone.
I've caught myself a couple of times watching my favorite channels on UA-cam and thinking, "This should be a TV show," before realizing, it kind of already is. True, they don't have the budget or the slick camerawork of a "reality" TV show, but they have something "reality" TV doesn't have: heart and passion. The people running the channels I love are doing it because they love what they do and want to share that with people. And the magic of them having their own channel is they can do that without some idiot Hollywood middleman producer telling them they have to do it in a certain way.
I'm 60 years old, and though I don't always like it, UA-cam is indeed my leading source of entertainment. Television and films have gone straight to hell. The problem with wokeness is not just critical theory Cultural Revolutionary poison. It's that storytelling itself is a conservative endeavor. Small c. Even if you're going to tell a very liberal story, small l, you must tell it in a conservative fashion or it will break the fourth wall with all kinds of utopian stink of bullshit characters and plot points. It will lack all verisimilitude. That's what these fools don't understand. They were actually doing a pretty good job of winning the culture war just by being reasonably subtle about their messaging. Maybe this wokeness is for the good after all, because Liberalism, capital L just can't help itself. It just can't stop itself from going too far, it just can't temper itself with a little small c conservatism. It always brings about a reactionary impulse. In this case that makes me a reactionary back to about 1995, say plus gay civil unions. Anyone sensible agrees with me, give or take.
It's my dude Gary !!! Hell yeah great seeing you here, great seeing the fellowship!! This is how culture changes. Coming together over shared interests even though the channels are different themes we share the same values. Values which woke Hollywood and the people it represents seek to destroy. This is how we win, uniting common sense people who don't need Hollywood, creating alternate economies, and being able to go around these fascist Hollywood elites who seek our destruction. It's great seeing like minded creators coming together to have a discussion about the horrors of Hollywood and the fascist identity politics it's pushing to destroy and divide our country.
This reminds me of the new Mulan. The character is completely unrelatable. The animated Mulan is my favorite Disney character because she's the underdog who, out of love for her father, takes his place, risking her own life. No, she's not as physically strong as a man in the beginning, but she's smart and adapts by thinking outside of the box.
I don’t watch new movies anymore. I do watch nerdrodic’s video analysis & likewise enjoy drinker & others’ reviews - as solid entertainment. Why would I give the movie industry my hard earned money- I’d much rather support these guys with views, likes, comments, my time, etc.; because these are guys who are doing the work of entertaining. They put in way more than the Hollywood windbags of the industry. Nick’s work with our military, his state government, education, family work, & beyond is deserving enough of respect & support, and yet -he goes beyond with his podcasts, interviews, and much needed comedic relief in those mug shorts. Respect all around! Thanks guys.
Exactly! I do the same. In the last three years I think I've gone to see three movies. All of the others I waited until they were either on streaming, or after watching the reviews of some of my favorite people (Gary, for instance) I decided to save my money.
@@vegasrenie Yeah same about films & shows), but I have filled the gap with more novels and trying out older graphic novels now. Never to late to try out something new.
Truth! I refuse to watch any of the new crap...yet I'll listen to 2 hours of Nerdrotic, Critical Drinker or Little Platoon tear them apart for 2 hours! 😂
To quote ItsAGundam Hollywood is dead. Watch anime instead. We get about 3 truly great movies a year. A handful of good ones. Everything else is trash. Hollywood isn't necessary and isn't worth it.
I'm not boycotting anything because I'm not a whiny little bitch. If it interests me, I'll watch it. If it doesn't, I won't watch it. Simple as it gets.
Watch more Asian movies/shows, specially the Koreans are producing great stuff & of course all the anime from Japan. The Korean "The Admiral" movies for example are fantastic historical epic war movies that cost both a fraction of Ridley Scott's Napoleon and put it to shame.
I'll add my two cents to Nick Freitas' question on why pop/nerd culture is important. Whether the character is Spiderman, or the Lone Ranger, they are America's modern literary mythical heroes. Just like Hercules, Jason, Robin Hood, and King Arthur have been for hundreds of years. Their stories make you think about morality, responsibility, consequence of action, and sustain cultural value. They are modern fables that assist the parent in teaching their children. A child can learn from those stories with out mom and dad having to loom over them. It lets a non judgmental friend help the young interpret life. To some it can be the only positive example of being a man, or woman, they have in their lives.
Spot on. I actually wrote a paper in a composition class I had to take in college on how superheroes are modern folklore/mythology. They're just stories that embody our better angels and terrible devils.
And mythology isn't just larger than life stories for the sake of it. They served a purpose in society. Our modern mythologies are being taken down without anything to replace them and the hole that's been left behind is incredibly palpable- especially with young ones.
It's a concerted effort to remove the idea that there is "right" and "wrong". Now every character has a valid reason for their actions because you don't know what they've been through. The movie "The Condemned" with Stone Cold Steve Austin has a great scene regarding this. Vinnie Jones is the villain and Austin catches him at gunpoint and Jones goes on this long explanation of how he was abused and how horribly he was treated during his life which made him into a monster. Austin listens patiently, then says "Sounds like you had a tough life. Good thing it's over." and shoots him.
Read the fucking actual story of Hercules. Also I find it funny that you all here love Robin Hood when his character is redistributing wealth to the poor all the whole you will be the clowns will whine about universal health care as being a form of equality of results. What you want is cookie cut easy to digest bland stories. Well I want stories that have real substance and its something kids should interested in and learn about.
More like "the characters you thought you knew have been secretly awful, greedy, and white the whole time, you're just stupid for not realizing it until we told you just now."
The audience in unison: "Nah, if you refuse to provide it, we'll find our fun elsewhere" followed by the collective sounds of wallets shutting, and the cars leaving the now abandoned parking lot.
Nick, the late great Rush Limbaugh aired a warning decades ago when we were still debating legalized gay marriage. He aired a speech by some woman who was pushing for gay marriage, and she said it was her goal to destroy traditional marriage and the family unit. You said Disney was a family oriented company, back in the day. And it was.. I'd say they've been pretty successful on destroying anything wholesome and traditional family oriented.
Rush really was ahead of the curve on this. He talked about the importance of pop culture and the culture war. Thankfully we have guys like Nick and Gary to carry on the discussion against the woke destroyers. Great conversation, guys.

Razorfist has recently pointed out two things about Hollywood that are often forgotten. 1. Hollywood was always Red. 2. The only thing Joe McCarthy did wrong was stop.
Razorfist the hot air assbag who believes that by watching Blade Runner times he has the correct way to see how to interpret Blade Runner and can thus be the objective voice of what a proper sequel to Blade Runner should be. Well first off Hollywood was founded by carnies and Joe McCarthy didnt find commies he just made shit up. And its wonderful that he died as an alcoholic wreck.
Both are swamps that NEED to be drained and they've been working hand-in-hand from each side of the country to control culture and policy and use them in tandem to influence and direct one another.

Also, Nick I really enjoy your content. I have been waiting for this video from the day that I first heard you name drop Nerdrotic. I believe it was in a short of yours. Thank you both for fighting for the things we love and for common sense.
I've never see Gary of Nerdrotic talk so seriously and so maturely about anything in his videos until today when he explained his addiction, prison time (which I always thought was a joke whenever he brought it up podcasts and other vids), drug abuse, and a lot of other horrible things. Good on ya my man. Keep on fighting the good fight.
I've been saying this for years. All you had to do was look at the "message" in shows to see that there was something very nefarious going on. When when you combine that with the fact that they can't get fired even after violating the most basic rules of business - don't insult your customers and don't lose billions of dollars - you know there's something going on behind the scenes. People don't to admit that because it would mean acknowledging that there's a very real threat, a very real enemy, working to destroy them. People want to believe that enemies wear uniforms and come with tanks and planes, that they're easily identifiable.... just like in the movies. The problem there is that it allows the enemy to infiltrate and take over. David Horowitz wrote about this in his book "Radical Son", detailing how the communist/socialist/marxist types had no problem getting their foot in the door, flying under the radar, and working to advance their agenda. That they did actually hold secret meetings in basements and back rooms where they'd conspire against the United States. But, getting average people to understand that would mean getting them to see that they are fairly powerless to stop a real threat. People would rather turn a blind eye, come up with any excuse that justifies doing nothing substantive, so they can just live their lives. This is nothing new. The only difference is that the internet opened the floodgates of information-sharing and now the players can't hide what they're doing. When Ben Shapiro wrote that book on how Hollywood was intentionally works to train viewers, to normalize and popularize behaviors and ways of thinking, it only confirmed what some of us already knew. The problem has always been getting people willing to fight back in a substantive way. People don't want to believe there's really an enemy out there who wants them dead. They don't want to believe that China could work tirelessly for decades to sow communism throughout the world, torturing millions of people, because that'd also mean having to admit that the people are helping to fund such things in exchange for cheap goods on the store shelves. People don't want to believe that RINO's could actually be democrat/communist traitors who infiltrated the GOP because that would mean having to admit that they, as the voters, did nothing to stop it and the GOP is now also a bad thing. They will actually use the term RINO, but never stop to think what it actually means. It's weird, too, because you'd think that the conservative/right would easily recognize these tactics and concepts since it's exactly what we all grew up watching. Those old war movies and cop shows were thick with examples of traitors and such, but we laugh them off as just 'entertainment', assuring ourselves that it could never happen in real life. So the left wins.
If they actually hired talented writers, they would’ve been more successful in pushing “the message” through nuance and subtlety. Instead, their D E I hires(who probably never read a book in their lifetime) throw this stuff in your face.
@@crazyralph6386 That's the nature of the left, though. They've never been able to create, only destroy. The myth that the left is the creative side of the culture is just that.... a myth. Always has been. What they do is take over the scene after it's been established and basically run through the built up wealth until there's nothing left. They try to force people to accept their way, convincing people that it's "new" or "avant garde" or whatever. Even in the earliest days of impressionist painting, the people who started the movement were angry that they didn't have the talent or drive to actually paint to the level of the existing artwork. They couldn't knock out paintings that were nearly photo-realistic. Either a lack of talent or just that it would take time, either way, they wanted into the top ranks where they could attend parties and rub elbows with the upper echelons of society. They wanted the acclaim without the years of dedication to the craft. Today's no different. That's why you see this pattern where they take an established and loved source material and try to build off of those, always ruining it. They can't create. They can't do as good, so they take the work of a master and then claim they're "re-imagining" it. And always coming up with something worse. It's one part destroying the great work they're jealous of, and one part trying to piggyback off that work to show that they could do it just as well.
@@SamElliottsStache The sad part is that it's right out in the open for all to see, but nobody wants to do anything about it. I've pointed this out for the last 30 years, but it's easier for folks to stick their heads in the sand instead of borrowing what are obviously winning plays and using them themselves. Frustrating, to say the least!

From Fahrenheit 451: “Do you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality. And what does the word quality mean? To me it means texture. This book has pores. It has features. This book can go under the microscope. You’d find life under the glass, streaming past in infinite profusion. The more pores, the more truthfully recorded details of life per square inch you can get on a sheet of paper, the more ‘literary’ you are. That’s my definition anyway. Telling detail. Fresh detail. The good writers touch life often. The mediocre ones run a quick hand over her. The bad ones rape her and leave her for the flies. So now you see why books are hated and feared? They show the pores in the face of life.”
The frightening part of that book is that they use robot dogs to hunt down enemies of the state and kill them by the dog injecting poison into them. We are practically there.

As someone who was born in 1966, I connected with you guys on a nostalgic level 🙏 We grew up in an amazing time! Best pop culture, TV, music. Entertainment was pure and creative, not message driven. We had the “After School Specials” for that (which I also enjoyed), remember the one about the autistic child? Compare that to today’s reality 😕 when it was something that was so rare. Our kids today have been message driven and brainwashed in a way that they will never know entertainment the way we did. Dumpster fire at worst.
Yeah actually they ended it really well. The scene with Vader recovering Ahsoka's lightsabers was really something. Perfect ending to a fantastic show. And Solo wasn't half as bad as everyone thought. Holy shit Garry's getting around!
1 million baybee!!
I thought I was having a stroke when I saw him on Unsub. Good times.
Based as hell on Unsub. Hope he makes a return visit when Nic is in town so they can shit on commies together.
Right? He got a shout out yesterday on JRE too
He hit his milli. Looks good on him.
People seem to think Gary is brainwashing the masses against the movie industry. If the masses were seriously happy with tv and movies the last few years, Gary would just be some hobo shouting on the internet to no one. Fact is he is just a voice for all of us fans
I have a dream!
He is excellent at saying exactly what we all think.
@@mosser-wm3dx Someday, all movie characters will be written and cast based on the quality of their character, not the color of their skin! We have that dream too, Gary!
That is the view of the entertainment companies. Incidentally as well as Joe Biden's handlers, the WEF, etc.
It's just censor and gaslight. Then people will love all the garbage we're pushing out. If it not for those pesky people with their pesky self-determinism! OBEY OBEY!
Gary is more like the cult interventionist
Heck I found him while looking for others who thought the same as me about these modern movies.
Because I felt like I was insane, the MSM and normies were screaming GB 22016 was good and I was sexist for seeing the trailer and thinking "God that looks lame"
Along with him and others I discovered, no I am not insane for wanting good stories, good acting, good fight scenes, good characters and for all that to come alive on screen.
It's so good to see Gary getting so much traction. He knows his nerdom and he understands pop cultures importance to society as a whole.
Thank you Nick. Been a big fan of Gary for close to 5 years. Hearing you both makes me feel that there is hope for America. Keep fighting the good fight (from an ex-Aussie living in NZ).

Nerdrotic is in the top 3 best channels on yt, GREAT COLLAB!
I was one of those cancelled knitters at that knitting social networking site in about 2017. It was bizarre, and everyone I tried to explain it to thought I was insane. But the more I looked into it, the scarier and crazier than I'd imagined.
I remember following that, and supportive comments would just "magically disappear" or else be attacked into oblivion. Evil world we are living in.
Nick is right about youtube. I recently realized all my entertainment has come from youtube and I thought I was being weird. Its the norm now.
Same
Bro I was thinking the same and how weird it made me feel.
Kinda the same.
Gary struggling to utter "Screen Actors Guild" was hilarious. He has another name for that particular group.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone had it right.
I'm not.
Film Actors Guild.
Indeed!
Well said! 100% agree.
You mean it destroyed itself and when the dust settles the only thing that will be left will be metal
You did a great job of encapsulating my own thoughts on this. Bravo.
Turns out McCarthy was dead on the money all those years ago.

Boycott all things Hollyweird!!
Have been for years. Nice to have everyone else on board now lol
Gave up Hollywood a ways back. If I watch anything, it's science and history documentaries.
To quote ItsAGundam
Hollywood is dead.
This was a good conversation. I remember watching "The wonderful World of Disney " on Sunday nights as a kid and it was family entertainment.
Totally agreed and I relate to this personally since my parents were quite absent and need culture help me build my morals
Congrats Brother!

More like "the characters you thought you knew have been secretly awful, greedy, and white the whole time, you're just stupid for not realizing it until we told you just now."
Not to mention they are sexist, racist and of course toxic masculinity. The old characters.
The audience in unison: "Nah, if you refuse to provide it, we'll find our fun elsewhere" followed by the collective sounds of wallets shutting, and the cars leaving the now abandoned parking lot.
This. This is exactly their logic. They are doing what Tolkien said. Not creating anything new just destroying what someone else created

Been following Gary when he was at 150k and I started following Nick on Instagram. When you see two different worlds cross like this you can see how people are catching onto the fact the culture war is something that can't be ignored.
Walt Disney loved Americana! The Disney realm has turned so far away from his vision.
Exactly. He actually fought these same Marxists(who took hold of his company), for half his life. They threw everything at Walt and Roy, to no avail.
Literally everyone is a nerd. Friend of mine has 28 hats, he's a nerd for hats. Another friend has 8 bookshelves full of action figures. We are all nerds, just for different things. This isn't a war of "nerds" vs others. It's people vs destroying the things we love. There will always be those of us that push back. This is my childhood you are ruining, not some random IP.

You just confirmed the Fourth Estate.

From Fahrenheit 451:
“Do you know why books such as this are so important?

Yeah actually they ended it really well. The scene with Vader recovering Ahsoka's lightsabers was really something. Perfect ending to a fantastic show. And Solo wasn't half as bad as everyone thought. The REAL killers for me were TLJ, which IMO is possibly the worst SW movie EVER made (and that's including the Holiday Special) and Obi Wan, which had a decent premise... Now full disclosure, I didn't watch RoS (b/c of how bad TLJ was) so I can't really give an opinion on it. I HAVE seen the whole 'Somehow Palpentine came back' meme, which makes 'I hate sand' look like bloody Shakespear by comparison, but I never have and never will watch it.
Love this interview. So many great points 👌 Also, I've just noticed Nerdrotics Wilson Fisk model behind him for the first time 😁 Was also wandering, will Nerdrotics book be on sale in the UK? Or only order from the US?
This episode made me subscribe. I hope you interview more people like this. Critical Drinker, EVS, Eric July ect..
Congratulations on reaching over 1million subscribers Gary and you didn't deserve to go through such a rough childhood and certainly not prison, glad your life is very much on the up now though, you're one of the most popular UA-camrs on the planet right now!
Remember when movies and shows were good? I miss those days
Huge fan of the both of you. Awesome to see you together!
I'm loving the way my favorite you tubers are finding each other and uniting against the woke mind virus affecting our society.
What an awesome collaboration! Way to go to both of you.
Well, that's the cultural diversity that strengthen rather than divide. No forced relations of incompatible cultures and ideologies. Two guys with both different and similar things they love and talking about sharing and preserving the cultural icons they love.
Two of my favorite guys. It has been fun following Gary over the last 6 or 7 years.
Finally, we are ascribing this phenomena not to mere incompetence, but to the destructive and intentional malice that it is. It's the slow murder of all the values and institutions that hold a society together. This has been the plan since the 1960s.
Watch some of Bill Whittle and the Right Angle episodes here on YT. Whittle is a hollywood script writer and has some epidodes covering the problems in Hollywierd..
Aldo Andrew Klavan was a writer in HW for years and has some great insights into the current lack of sales for the movies
this was the best video Ive seen on UA-cam this week! thanks for taking the time to do this!
PHEW!! I love Gary's content so worried what you meant by 'destroying Hollywood' - it's the good kind that exposes the blatant racism and sexism in 'the meeeessssaaaage' (The Critical Drinker may have copyrighted that) 🤗
did not realize he had a book coming up. will absolutely be reading it.
great interview 👍
