In his notes above Mr. Bartley, the virtuoso on his instrument, indicates that it only is “when stress or tragedy strike so hard,” that he gains confidence to also compose. None of us want him to suffer - but one can only be grateful that he is capable of transforming agony into such great music.
Incredible composition brought to life with these killer cats! And dat alto tone, holy shit. I'm much more of a tenor sax fan, but my jaw dropped when Patrick played the first phrase. Really powerful stuff.
Pat is also the only performer I really enjoy on soprano sax. Normally, to my ear, it sounds like a kazoo but Pat just infuses it with such groove and feel. ‘Price’ from Metagroove is the track.
Always wondered what it was like to hear Trane or someone else legendary come out with new classic material as it was happening- now I think I have an idea - thanks for the absolutely transcendental music , brother 🙏 and those drums and piano too tho like wow
This typa shit is the reason Im going on to get my masters in jazz To be able to conceptualize, compose and execute a tune with such a high level of artistic and emotional expression blows my mind Well fuckin done pat and co
I started with your Giant Steps...WOW. Off the chain then you took it to another level with these blues....played it 4 times. Is now my daily bread. You would be a good addition to the Cuban, Montreal or any of the Jazz Festivals. I'm going to subscribe so I can get to see you live no matter where you are in the world in the next 12 months. Absolutely brilliant composition (obviously coming from a deep place) and the execution just astounding! More original compositions please 💕(Are you also going to put up Reach for God?)
Mr. bartley is really an improvisation genius and a saxophone goat i have to say honestly. His sounds and musicality are so unique..❤ The only thing that man could criticize about his playing, if so possible that was, is sometimes the ending of his phrases. Sometimes, i feel that he is lacking some air and length in the end of certain phrases. But, really a perdonnal detail😅
Patrick is about to enter his jazz legend era.
the guy's got the chops
Yes indeed, such an amazing talent and artist. ❤
Oh yeah he is! Really want to see him live at some point; might just have to visit Japan now 🙂
I think that era hit with “after you’ve gone”
Been there ^^ and exactly
Pat must have a "Vibrato on" button on his horn. Its too immaculate
This performance is incredible. Omg these melodies, these chords, these solos, these musicians. Insane
These blues
I hope the guys who live downstairs appreciate this as much as we all do. Thankyou Patrick. Life Affirmingly glorious!
I can't get this song out of my head, its soo good
Gut wrenching , mournful, powerful playing, thanks for your music Patrick!
Patrick's phrasing is just nuts, he genuinely is a poet on the sax
The transition into the next phrase at 5:50 is masterful
