As a varying table top game enthusiast- from card games, Chess, and even to a friendly gathering of Monopoly- this brought a tear to my eyes. Glad I subscribed. Excellent content, Thrash Labs.
So the kids can review the game later. It is usually done with either a coach or by plugging it into a chess engine on a computer that can point out weak and strong moves, and give suggestions for better moves. Sometimes the notation is referenced when solving disputes that can arise while still in the tournament, for example if someone has played an illegal move (very common with kids).
I started playing the game of chess about three years ago, and I am now a chess junkie because the game is such an amazing challenge, and therefore intriguing and stimulating. More about the subculture of chess in America!!!
Thrash Lab! I feel like you guys inspire a lot of people to be interested in these different subcultures. Maybe if you included links to how they could pursue the things you show in the videos in the description, you could get people to take some intitative after watching the video! Just a thought!
Where I am from (Portland, OR), we have several good places to play chess as well and a phenomonal chess community. And yes, people from all walks of life play the game. I play online correspondence chess regularly and find some of the most amazing, brilliant and tactically diverse games i have ever played. I also like Blitz chess somewhat but have eschewed alot of this for CC. The video was great but I am saddened to see how the game has changed at Washington Park. Now they play for money often
I'm 24 years old and would like to enter a chess tournament in the NY region one day. But it seems that everywhere I search, its 95% for children. How can I play in tournaments with adults / mixed people?? Thanks.
Chess is "trendy"? From a lot of your videos, I am truly beginning to question the intelligence of the New York cultures. I understand that most New Yorkers are pretty well stuck there with that mentality and skewed outlook on life, and accept things as being what they are not, simply because someone said it is and said it in a convincing manner; BUT that doesn't mean you cannot learn about life in the real world.
