    Hi im a noob on the synths world but i like dem a lot, just wanted to know that if i buy on of these things, what else do i need to make it work, to make it sound, thank you

    • @WiredBrain
      @WiredBrain  3 роки тому

      You just need to plug it into an amplifier or and audio interface to be able to hear it (I don't remember if the audio out is headphone compatible tho, you might find this in the manual).

    • @davearnold4426
      @davearnold4426 3 роки тому +4

      a lot of these videos usually have the gear plugged into an FX unit. Delay and Reverb go along way towards smoothing out the sound of a synth. It took me a while to get that I was missing that from my rig. If you're going strait into a DAW, no worries you can just use plugins; but, if you're planning on performing live then it would be helpful to get an FX pedal/unit. Really, reverb and delay are more than icing on the cake. They're both pretty essential. Even something cheap would go a long ways towards making a beautiful sound.

    • @WiredBrain
      @WiredBrain  3 роки тому

      @@davearnold4426 True ! Any reverb or echo you might add will make things more "you" or more alive. Tho the DFAM might be one of the few synthesizer I like the raw sound with no FX added, mostly due to it's percussive nature.

    • @davearnold4426
      @davearnold4426 3 роки тому

      @@WiredBrain Yeah, the DFAM is definitely an interesting sounding instrument and you wouldn't necessarily want to drown it in too much reverb or delay; but, having a touch of reverb can help any synth sit in a more natural space that is more pleasing to the ear. I'd also say that the DFAM is not a beginners Synth. I had the DFAM about 2 years ago and returned it because I was not able to understand how each knob contributed to its sound. Now, after working with analog synths for the last 2 years, I feel I'm ready to try the DFAM again and am looking to get my hands on one again.

    • @chrisdoel2778
      @chrisdoel2778 3 роки тому

      Don't buy one of these if you're new to synthesizers. It's a real faff to sync up to a laptop and it's not a proper drum machine. It's great (I have one) but as a beginner I'd get a more traditional drum machine or sampler. To make a track using one of these you really need to sample a range of sounds from it (kick, bass, percs, synths and other sounds) then layer them up in a DAW or sampler anyway.

    • @WiredBrain
      @WiredBrain  6 років тому +6

      There is an input in the patchbay called "Advance" that move the sequencer forward when it receive a trigger so you can sync it that way, you can also clock external devices with cv in using the "trigger" output of the DFAM.

    I'm trying to figure out patch 10. I can't get it, I went full screen while start and stopping with no success. Its a nice patch, I cant see "Sequence pitch mod" switch, is it off. I cant get VCO 1 and 2 to sound right with each other. I really wish the DFAM had a little better sequencer. Thanks anyways

    • @WiredBrain
      @WiredBrain  3 роки тому +1

      Hey there, it's mostly a thing of modulating the filter with one of the VCO and sequencing the Noise Level with one row of the sequencer. I think this very simple sequencers are great in their limitations and there's lot to do with those when clocking them externaly with less steady signals ;-)
