Outstanding!!! I've got it all, an incredibly unique set of instruments that ask us to twiddle the knobs, patch cables in and out, and take a journey beyond expectation or exaltation!! Great!! This particular video, superior take on the subject. Q="Where's the one?" A="You're soaking in it"
Great stuff here... the DFAM is just awesome. I have 2 DFAMs and they are the basis of every tune... just fun to use especially for complex syncopation... I then drop in the Roland DR880 for traditional drum samples..the Squarp Pyramid keeps it all synced ( sub 37 and o coast, Minitaur as well)....record directly into a dp-32
Man that was a great demonstration. I love synths, the best fun I have is with is jamming on a 106 with the pc off. I just record my jams on a sound recorder for later development. Jamming is when the magic happens and can be lost quite easily and hard to replicate. I've recently had fun with sequencing on an AVP drum machine. And now seeing these Moog sequencing analogues has really opened my mind to saving for them...U can create a song in a spontaneous jam yet sitting down at a pc to structure a piece can take a very long time...I guess there are different ways of working but humans should trust themselves more with there abilities to create music without actually thinking to much about what they are doing..Thanks pal.
I've been trying to control the DFAM's 'advance/clock' input from Reason using a gate signal from a sequencer (out via ES-3). Signal is coming out okay & works connected to 'run/stop' input but doesn't work on 'advance/clock'. I'm probably missing something fundamentally straightforward here! But I'm not sure currently why this doesn't work :-/ EDIT: Tried sending MIDI clock from Reason to Phenol, which has built in MIDI > CV converter with a clock output. Can see Phenol is getting the clock (indicated by an flashing LED). But this doesn't seem to work on the DFAM's 'advance/clock' input either. Mmmm! :-/ EDIT 2: Figured it out - manual stated DFAM had to have 'run/stop' enabled (using button) so that it was ready to receive clock. Ah ha! Now I can clock from any gate signal from Reason. This is going to be interesting ;-)
I have both of these and love playing them. My only issue with the mother 32 is the way ratcheting ruins the clock pulses. I guess that’s just the analog way. Love it or leave it.
You absolutely do not look as nerdy as I always pictured you from your podcast and other videos. Good for you! Keep the nerdy stuff coming, while looking smart!
I can hear some weird high frequency sound like whistling in the background at the moments Alex is not playing instruments.. it is really quiet but still hearable. Just wondering if that sound is coming from Moogs?
Great video and amazing jam! I love the sound these machines produce, especially the DFAM. Is the DFAM's sequencer similar to the Korg SQ-1? Would it be possible to get similar results with a Korg SQ-1 and a Basimilus Iteratis Alter for voicing?
@@outlier5844 cheers but thats not the right one either. I'll have to have a look through his channel. it was where he made an almost oldskool dubstep sounding track
@@rosss9999 Because they already did in the past. Bob Moog even lost the rights to his own name for some years. The factory is small in Asheville, and everything is actually built by hand! Therefore, boutique products like this sometimes don’t sell enough products to support production. They are making great products and innovating though, so if they stay on this track they should do well! Love Moog!
IMO, too complicated & inefficient. Its a bit like tweaking samples. I'd want drums pads to input the drum beat and a moog et al plugged into pads to sample & tweak my drum beat.
It's a pretty well-balanced explanation / exposition. He explains each _step_ of the process (as it develops), and the looping music / sounds aren't terribly complex.. I think you can listen to both (?), and get the 'whole' picture.
I can never make it through any of these videos the first time cause I always end up inspired and wander off to my rack.
Sean Thegen This! Haha!
Man right on! I disappeared into my studio 2 minutes after he pressed play on the 32!
Isnt that great? :)
That's an awesome thing. At least you enjoy what you're doing.
Finding Alex on different channels is truly fun.
This was an amazing demonstration of both the Mother and DFAM working together. Simple, clear and effective!

great stream didnt know alot about the dfam too much but to me the mother 32 the best synth for the money thanks again
Great demonstration of workflow, great creativity and musicality.
Wait! I was at this lecture! God, he is amazing! ❤🙏🏻
One of the best Mother 32 demos, great to see you demo how the live performance aspect works
Thanks!
Yeah it's great to hear sounds he entire time, not just talking! love it
Glad to see you'll be at Moogfest next week. Hope to see attend your workshop!

Awesome setup, dude!
Wow, I’ve been neglecting mine but day off tomorrow smashing these two beauties! Great demo👍

This is brilliant. Loved it, thanks.
10:55 idk what that is but I fucking love it
DFAM is back on the menu. Of late I’ve really, really fucking wanted one again.

Bloody great stuff, first video I've seen that's inspired me to want a DFAM.
Get one!
more dfamylar!
15:30 yup, me too. it's just loads of fun ;-)
a techno monster! great demo sir : )

"Less Is More" So true.
Has Mylar been doin some lifting ? 💪🏼
would've been cool to hear the transition as you programmed the presets
Anybody else wonder what Alex can do with the Labyrinth?
This is sick.

Your comments add such value.
hah, the Nick reference 😆 and awesome vid
unrelated to the demo but where can i get that t shirt?
the DFAM can do sooo much more than dance music...try to veer off that metronomic, techno beat...and discover some truly other worlds!
BTW: assign output seems not to work properly (on mine) when you ratchet to x4 - hence DFAM stepping irregularly in this video when ratchet was used.
Somehow you got into 5/4 mode. Awesome
MIND = BLOWN
The best part of this video is from 0:00 to 26:06
that is the reason why I started to go with analog devices, because I sit all day in front of a pc. I can loose myself in these devices.
Thanks for the info. :)
15:44 the sound gave me a very weird feeling in my throat wtf
I lovvveee My DFAM!!!!

my dfam does that too when i sync it to the mother with ratchets it throws off the clock.
Ace!
Very nice tutorial, thank you. 👍
'this is a DFAM, from Moog'. with a voice intonation as in 0coast video. :)))) your voice is classic !
hey guys, there's another video im looking for with the same guy and the dfam. any idea where it is?? lol i cant find it!
On his channel mylarmelodies. 28 minutes of armageddon

11:07 the magic mothersbaugh moment 🥔🥔🥔
Is it worth getting dfam if I don’t pair it w mother 32?
10:55 wow !!
Is it called Mother 32 because of the 32 step sequencer or the 32 patch points? Or is the answer to both questions ‚yes‘?
Good question...yes!
Camera is wobbling. Screen is wobbling. His head is bobbing. If feel woozy...
Nothing wrong with that! We're here for the music ;)
@@rosss9999 ...and it's awesome. This video probably contributed the most to me buying a DFAM.

Gotta love Moogs, I really hope they don't go out of business.
So do we!
Why would they go out of business?

you forgot to mention that analog dose things digital can't... I mean the raw musical potential can't be matched.

Gotta secure that GoPro yo
This guy reminds me of me
Maybe he is you...
Two DFAMs and a drum machine would be great. I just need a 2nd DFAM.

was it worth a video?

Who is talking actually?
Alex from SourceDistribution he also has a UA-cam as MylarMelodies.

No midi = no DFAM for me.
Your imagination will provide the midi - mind midi
The speech in the same time as a sounds of the synths..
Sorry, but I don't understand what need to hear - music/sounds or speech about it

Got bored after a minute
More music please! Always there is the interruption of the voice...
“Just a 909, a 303, a mixer, and a delay pedal for some dubby stuff” will set you back about $5-6,000? That ain’t it
stopppppp talkkkkkkkkk!!!!!
funny when you bob ur head to something totally outta wack
u move to fast to tell what ur doing, you touch 20 things only to adjust 3 things, ur confusing and never stay in a groove
5 plus minutes in and zero music. Audi 5000.
