"Ah, memories! We will enjoy them!" How I feel about this movie. Big nostalgia enjoyment for me. Ton of great SNL actors, guest comedians (Sinbad) and more. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it James!
This one is based on a Saturday Night Live sketch and it received pretty horrible reviews at the time. I always kinda liked it though and I think it still holds up pretty well today. It's a quirky heartwarming story about an immigrant family's struggles to fit in. It's silly, yes, but it has heart.
I always think the same thing whenever I see this movie! She is so gorgeous. Oddly, I think this was the biggest movie she was ever in. Her (Michelle Burke) resume on Wikipedia is pretty short and includes a lot of made-for-TV movies, etc.
Saturday Night Live strikes again. This was a Saturday Night Live skit adapted into a movie. The full cast of Saturday Night Live making this property from the show into a movie. Comedy greats. Also, Comedian Sinbad makes an appearance. You should watch his films, "Houseguest 1995, Jingle All the Way 1996 with Arnold Swartzeneger, & First Kid 1996".
I enjoyed this film as a kid because I liked the idea of humanoid aliens with cone-shaped heads, and I remember seeing trailers and old episodes of SNL with the Coneheads, which made me more interested in seeing it. I still think it is funny, but it is not as funny as I remember it. Still would recommend people to see it.
As I'm sure others have probably pointed out already, this was based on an old one-joke Saturday Night Live sketch. In case you don't know, Saturday Night Live is a sketch comedy show (sketches being brief little one-gag skits or plays, so every episode would have multiple sketches), the most famous and longest-running show of its kind, which started airing in 1975, live, on Saturday nights, and is still on the air today. The original SNL cast is one of the most legendary in all of television history and included, among others, Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Jane Curtin and Gilda Radner. Bill Murray and Al Franken would be added to the cast in 1977. Eddie Murphy would join in 1980. And throughout its history other big names have come and gone like Martin Short, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Farley, and Mike Myers. A little bit of history of SNL-sketch-based moves: The first time anyone tried to turn an SNL skit into a movie was in 1980 when they made the move The Blues Brothers, starring Aykroyd and Belushi as the titular characters that they also played on the show. It was HILARIOUS and I think a commercial success, too, but for some reason they didn't make more for quite a while. In 1992, SNL had a cast including Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, and Chris Farley... and some of them decided to try and catch lightning in a bottle again and they made the movie Wayne's World, based on an SNL sketch. It was also HILARIOUS, AND it was a giant monster success at the box office, for a comedy movie. This... inspired a lot of subsequent failed attempts at trying to cash in again, and a lot of mostly bad movies. There was 1993's Wayne's World 2 (pretty good), and the same year they released Coneheads, which, personally I think was underrated but generally is regarded as terrible. After that things only went downhill... there was It's Pat: the Movie (a whole movie about a character who the whole joke is people can't tell if he/she is male or female), Stuart Saves His Family (starring Al Franken as Stuart Smalley, a character nobody especially liked), A Night at the Roxbury (about two very obnoxious guys who dance very badly), Blues Brothers 2000 (not bad), Superstar (about an overzealous but unattractive Catholic school girl who likes to smell her own armpits), The Ladies Man (about Tim Meadows trying to get laid), and finally, MacGruber.. which... I'm not sure.. I think is some kind of parody of MacGuyver or something. I saw the movie and I'm still not sure. All of these movies were increasingly less and less popular, well-reviewed, and profitable, and after MacGruber I think they finally gave up. Or if they made one since then I wasn't paying attention. Anyway, long story short, the only ones really worth watching out of this whole bunch are The Blues Brothers, Wayne's World, and maybe Wayne's World 2. but hope you enjoyed this one.
@@AwesomeUSMovies Before my time as well, but I remember seeing them, I think they were reruns on NBC on the weekends during the day or maybe best-of clip shows in the late 80's early 90's.

I've never actually watched this film. Mainly due to having always hated the Cone Heads, even though that was a much older SNL skit. I remember the commercial for this, and lots of hype about the film just before it came out in theaters. I always thought it was odd that an SNL skit from the 70s was being made into a film in the 90s. I'm guessing Dan Aykroyd was behind that decision, he likes weird stuff and believes in aliens and ghosts. I guess I should watch the whole movie someday, even if I don't like the thing it's based on.
